I first want to point out that Petaluma itself is fantastic place and often overlooked. The town is adorable and the scenery is idyllic - just a mile from the house is a wide open bird sanctuary with a path to walk or run on to soak it all in. The house is also situated within an hours drive to the oyster farms on Tomales Bay, Sonoma, Napa, and, of course, San Francisco. So it is a very easy escape for the city folk and would be a great central location for visitors to the Bay Area. John, our wonderful host, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was easy. He even stocked the cupboards with cereal and other goodies, made sure we had milk in the house, filled and heated up the spa before our visit, and was always available to field questions before and during our time there. And the house was exactly what we needed. Enough room to spread out with an awesome back area, completely fenced in, shaded (and privatized) with beautiful redwoods. Our only issue was when we realized that in order to sleep 8 comfortably, everyone would have to share beds. I can see how this would just fine with 4 couples but we ended up having a friend sleep on the couch (they are not sleep sofas or futons and the "fat sack" is for napping - not sleeping). I cannot imagine how it is possible to comfortably sleep 12 in this house. In the end though, I would absolutely recommend staying here. And if you are a party of 12, just be up for getting a bit creative with the sleeping arrangements.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway.

We stayed at this beautiful home during a recent family reunion in the area. We had 9 family members staying here and there was plenty of room for all of us! Everything we needed was available and in great working order including the washer and dryer. The grounds are lovely and relaxing, especially the giant redwood trees in the back yard. The location was great for our family and for our activities. Besides our family reunion we took day trips to the beach, Golden Gate bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and a Giants game via the Larkspur ferry! We never even got to the wine country this trip. But we will come back! And when we do we will be staying here! It was perfect for our family!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
