At night with all the lights aglow Rocky Top positively radiates warmth and beauty.

With a lockable gate and wire screen overlay the deck is KID FRIENDLY. At ground level below the deck is a 6'x30' wire-enclosed dog run.
Beneath the knotty pine cathedral ceiling in the GREAT ROOM is a wall of glass offering beautiful pine and mountain views. The DINING ROOM with a large window looking through the pines to Apache Saddle seats 6-8 comfortably. An inviting stonewall corner fireplace climbs to the ceiling. Bear and deer stained glass windows hang above a unique curving stairway leading downstairs to 'the Attic'. Wildlife scroll saw artwork, handmade wall quilts, deer antler lamps, a faux bearskin, snowshoes, ski poles and two deer mounts complete the Northwoods theme.
A FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN with a 3-seat bar awaits your pleasure. Realtree camo dishes and deer antler flatware make every meal a special event. No need to cart along all those bottled waters - Reverse Osmosis filtered water flows from the sink.
You'll feel pampered in the spacious BATHROOM. A Kohler soaking tub (with shower), a wall of mirrors above the two basins, large dressing table, a welcome bear, chocolate and green plush cotton towels give the room a spa-like feel.
MALLARD'S RETREAT BEDROOM - has a Cal King bed, glider/rocker with ottoman, two spectacular stained glass windows above the bed (Mallard's of course!), ceiling fan, electric wall heater and ducks, ducks everywhere. Sliding glass doors open to a faux wood concrete patio with a table and two comfortable wicker rockers to sit under the pines, sip a glass of wine and watch the comings and goings at the bird feeder.
ANGLER'S REST BEDROOM - has two beds - a full and a twin - stacked like a bunk. (Sleeps 2-3); two rocking chairs with footstools and reading lamps; a 19'' LED flatscreen satellite TV with HDMI, USB; and a wall-mounted flip-up desk/worktable with oar legs suitable for writing or sewing. An electric wall heater keeps the room comfortable when temperatures drop. A portable crib and high chair are in the closet.
Downstairs the 600 sq ft 'BEAR'S ATTIC' is a combination DEN/GUEST ROOM with bears in abundance. (It probably should have been called a family room, but with all those bears we had no choice but to call it a DEN!!!) In the den is a slate top pool table with convertible ping pong table top; comfortable sofa and recliners; 40'' LED flatscreen with satellite TV; DVD and VHS players; a rustic drop-lid writing desk; two flip-up table tops on the wall beneath the window ledge convenient for writing, puzzles or sewing; an easily accessible SHOWER ROOM with tiled seats; and a LAUNDRY ROOM with washer/dryer. Cozy up with a good book from our library in the reading corner tucked beneath the stairway...and...be sure to visit our WILDLIFE RESCUE CORNER with over 30 inhabitants.
A beautiful Aspen log daybed with trundle (sleeps 2) in the GUESTROOM is easily closed off from the den for privacy via floor-to-ceiling draperies. A charming HALF BATH is close by. A Thelin Parlour pellet stove keeps the 'Bear's Attic' comfortable in winter.
We keep an 'odds and ends' assortment of sporting equipment for your use at Club facilities: fishing poles/net/bait, golf bag with mismatched golf clubs; croquet set; tennis racquets. Sorry, no bowling ball!!
In the winter we provide a snow disk for sledding and you are welcome to use the extra jackets, boots and gloves for adults/kids we keep at the lodge.
We are in a national forest with the ever-present danger of fire. There is NO smoking allowed on the property. Well-behaved pets are welcome for an additional charge. Guest are fully responsible for any damages. A large kennel and a dog run are provided for your convenience and the safety of your pet.

Well paved roads make it an easy drive from the I-5 to Pine Mountain. The roads in this private community are well maintained by the Club. However, at a mile high altitude, weather can change quickly in the mountains so CHAINS and/or a 4WD would be necessary in winter.
Endless trails, abundant wildlife and clear skies make Pine Mountain Club a little slice of paradise. Sip your morning coffee on the deck or drink your evening wine while gazing up into the star-filled night sky. Enjoy a stay at Pine Mountain Club. Rest, renew and be rejuvenated in our one-of-a-kind ROCKY TOP mountain retreat in the pines!!!

* BED and bring your own BREAKFAST - A phrase that popped into our heads early one morning driving up the mountain. Indeed! Why rent a single room when you can bring your own breakfast (or better yet try those fabulous waffles at Basecamp Cafe) and enjoy the whole house!!!

Rocky Top is a well-organized, well-appointed cabin. The owners have thought of every detail to make your stay easy and enjoyable. Our children appreciated all of the little things, especially watching for and feeding the birds. They loved playing outside and we all enjoyed some good family time playing games. I appreciated the convenience of the propane grill, which I used most nights. We were able to find some trails we could all enjoy and Rocky Top seems to be in a good location to get to most everything. We're looking forward to our next stay in Pine Mountain already.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, families with teenagers.

What a great tme my family had at Rocky Top. The lodge is charming and fun, each room has it's own theme and the owners have taken care to choose each item. The owners are easy to communicate with and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable in their lodge. Rocky Top is clean and comfortable and has all of the amenities of home. There are plenty of things to do while you enjoy the peace and quiet of the area. There are many movies to choose from, many games to play and a wonderful reading nook, also there is a pool table that converts into a ping pong table and even a sleding disk for the kids. The kitchen has everthing our family needed to enjoy both cooking and eating all of our meals. The Village is very close, with a market and resteraunts in case you forget something or choose not to cook in. I would recommend Rocky Top to friends and family, anyone who is looking for a place to spend quality time with their family. Thank you to the owners for sharing this lovely lodge with my family, we can't wait to go back.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers.

My husband and I have been to PMC four times in the last couple years. We've stayed at several cabins and this was out favorite! It was large but still cozy. All needs had been anticipated and the owners go out of their way to accommodate their guests' comfort. We had two little ones with us on the vacation and one of the greatest aspects of the property was that there was lots of space outside for the kids to play in. Part of the yard is on a slight hill and was perfect for very little sledders. (We had snow!) The kids and adults alike LOVED the many bird houses and the birds who would come to visit: woodpeckers, robins, blue jays, quail, and many more. There was bird food provided by the cabin as well! The cabin is walking distance from town, but not IN town, which we liked a lot. It was really, really cold when we visited but the heaters and fire inside made us toasty and comfortable. Linda went above and beyond as far as her responsiveness and attention to our needs. I really cannot thank her enough for our beautiful stay in Pine Mountain Club! We will be back!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Thank you Linda and Felicity for providing the cabin for our holiday family reunion at Rocky Top. We managed 5 hikes in just a couple of days! The dogs were beat! The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with cooking utensils (including La Creuset pots) to make wonderful soups and a yummy cottage pie! The movies and the pool table were an added bonus and we enjoyed watching some classic favorites with the family and shooting some pool while listening to holiday music. The amount of work you put into your home and the crafting talents of your family show in every nook and cranny. Truly a remarkable weekend. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! We will be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for being such great guests! My daughter and I enjoyed meeting your lovely family. So glad that the hoped for snow appeared! We have six inches of snow on the ground at the moment. It's truly awesome! Looking forward to hosting you all again.

We thoroughly enjoyed are stay here. Felt welcome from the minute we arrived. The cabin is lovingly decorated and maintained, so CLEAN and cozy we didn't want to leave. The owners thought of everything! Ah one great feature we loved was two living spaces so we could do our own thing in peace, ie. watch a movie and shoot pool vs listening to music or reading. Easy walk to village, pleasant views and landscaping all around. There are so many fun things to do in Pine Mountain Club, but we could have easily spent all our time in this wonderful cabin in the woods. Plenty of games, 100's of movies to watch, great music cd's, full kitchen and accessories, soaking tub, pool table, books, stone fireplace, and hammock or propane fireplace for relaxing on the deck. The kids also enjoyed lots of stuffed animals, swings, squirrels, feeding the birds and seeing the moons craters through the telescope! Already looking forward to our next stay at Rocky Top Lodge.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.

Rocky Top has more character than any other place I've stayed. The decorations are very fun, and the kids loved the bear's den. We were greeted warmly by the owner when we arrived, and given compressive tour of the house which was very well stocked: the fireplace was all set up; the spice cupboard was full; the bedding was new and very comfortable. The kids loved the pool table, and the bird feeders. There was a family of baby quail eating the bird seed on the ground! Pine Mountain Club is a very quaint town worth a visit, and Rocky Top is a great place to stay when you are there.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, families with teenagers.

Came in the winter and loved it. Had to see some snow as I miss it so much living in LA. I told myself then that I had to come back in the summer, and it was equally good. I love this little community. I played golf (awesome little course), I went hiking (up to the waterfall, awesome), and attempted to catch some fish in Ferns lake (no luck, bummer)... but Rocky Top was a wonderful retreat after all of my activities. I'd like to say I like it better here in the winter, but I can only lay out on the deck and see the Milky Way and a zillion stars when it's warm out.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Wow, wow, wow! What can I say, I loved your cabin. It felt like a big hug. The entire atmosphere is calm, serene and time just sort of stayed still. I felt like I had been away for at least a week instead of only a few days. I really enjoyed feeding the birds and seeing how many different species frequented the area. I will definitely be back again. Can't wait!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: RICHARD (a 'can-do' kind of guy) and LINDA (a creative perfectionist) - owners. We designed and constructed this unique 2-level Craftsman lodge-like home ourselves. Every rock, board and shingle was chosen and placed with our own hands. The rocks and boulders had to be dug out for the foundation. We even had to blast a 'ledge' (translation: rock as big as the mountain!) to pour the lower floor concrete. You can see why we christened it 'Rocky Top'. We constructed the large cantilever deck with a corner crow's nest seating ledge and custom formed and laminated the interior stair railing. We had planned to make this our home, but family obligations delayed our plans. After years of being leased-out we have renovated, decorated and reclaimed this gem to share with you. Like many people Linda, an avid interior decorator, dreamed of owning a B&B. This is probably as close as she will get. Our family and friends have been travelling up from the Los Angeles area a few days every week for the last year to work on this restoration. Richard, now a retired general contractor, turned the business over to our son who did the heavy lifting and electrical. Our neighbor, a retired plumber, has graciously given many hours to the project. Linda has been having great fun pulling the parts and pieces together for the last year. The talents of family members are showcased in the many custom artworks and stained glass windows throughout the lodge.
Why the Owner Chose Pine Mountain Club:
Few people knew about Pine Mountain Club in 1972. We saw a television ad. Tennaco was developing the land. Mil Potrero was as yet unpaved. No signs, no guardrails, no nothing! We were young, still newlyweds after only four years and dreaming of getting away from city life. We fell in love with the area and purchased a lot across the sreet. LInda's parents helped us build. We worked for three years constructing layer upon layer. It was our dream home. We planned to all retire there together. But then tragedy struck. Linda's dad had a stroke and our beautiful structure was NOT handicap accessible. So.....we sold our dear creation, purchased another lot (Rocky Top) and started again. It's not visible from the towering front, but the back bedroom starts at ground level. Everyone got to enjoy the beautiful mountains for a few years before the mile-high altitude proved too much for an elderly heart. Rocky Top was then leased out. We missed it terribly and no one cared for it as lovingly as we had. Then a terrible storm blew through in March 2011. We came up the mountain for the first time in many years, saw our beloved Rocky Top and decided then and there to reclaim it. We've had a grand time!!! And now we're ready to share our joy with you.
So, why do we call it a LODGE? 'Cabin' just didn't fit it's character. By definition a 'Lodge' is a country house 'occupied in season for sports' - hunting, fishing, skiing, swimming, tennis, golf, birdwatching, star gazing, reading, relaxing, deep breathing!!! (all sanctioned sports at Pine Mountain Club!!!)...we just had to call it a LODGE!!!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
ROCKY TOP feels like a world away tucked into the middle of the forest. All told we've probably spent the best years of our lives constructing, furnishing and landscaping this dream property...while having the times of our lives!!! We invite you to come enjoy the clear blue skies, clean fresh air and the thrill of sighting the occasional Condor soaring high overhead. In spring stroll down our wooded path and smell the fragrant lilacs. Sit in the log swing and listen to the wind whisper in the pines. A few days on the mountain is more restful for us than a two-week vacation. We're sure it will be the same for you. Come on up to ROCKY TOP - we'd love to share our dream-come-true with you!!!
