Kansas City estate description
Our home is a large colonial farm home located on five picturesque acres and surrounded by hundreds of acres of farm land. Located 15 miles north of the KCI Airport between Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO, one has access to all the attractions and activities in both cities and everywhere in between.
The home boasts 16 rooms within its spacious 5,000 square feet including:
• 4 bedrooms which comfortably sleep 21 people
• a group room
• dining room
• gourmet kitchen
• two fireplaces
• upstairs gathering room
• and a screened-in porch
The property also features a rustic 3,500 square foot barn. It is perfect for any larger indoor gathering with open space for a barn dance, family reception, or other event.
Open acreage between the home and barn, allows your imagination to run wild. The grounds offer a large, level area that is as large as a professional football field. It can accommodate any outdoor event -- from an outdoor picnic to a football game at a family reunion.
With its location being 15 miles north of the Kansas City International Airport it provides the perfect location for out of town guests coming for any occasion.
It is also close to shopping in Weston, Zona Rosa, Atchison, St. Joseph, and is just 45 minutes from the Plaza. For guests who want to explore the area, we provide a list of restaurants and nearby shopping to make a fun experience as convenient as possible. We are close to several state parks, wineries, historical sites, museums, and sports arenas, race tracks, theme parks, and more.
For those who want to make the most of their time at the home, you may also cook your own meals in our gourmet kitchen or hire outside caterers. We have two ovens, two stoves, two refrigerators, a dishwasher, microwave, and ample counter space. We have dishes and silverware you may use as well.
For groups who do not have a specific agenda, we have books, games, and music that guests may borrow to enhance their experience. Free wireless Internet is available as well.
The house comfortably sleeps 21 adults. Our mattresses were custom-made by Hawn Bedding in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Sixteen of the beds are extra-long twins and the remaining four beds are unique bunk beds with attached stairs and plenty of storage. The extra-long twin beds can easily be joined to create a larger sleeping area.
Take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery that surrounds the home. You will find yourself stepping back into a piece of American history during a simpler time filled with sun-brightened days, warm afternoons in the shade, and natural beauty as far as the eye can see. Whatever the season, the home offers a relaxing and rejuvenating environment.
The home offers a warm, safe, beautiful environment where you can relax, get energized, brainstorm, or accomplish whatever you wish. When you reserve the home for the weekend, or the week, your group is the only one in the residence, which gives you complete privacy. However you spend your time, you can be assured that it will be a special personal experience. We believe your experience will be so positive that finding a reason to come back is all you think about as you drive away.
We do have satellite TV and a DVD player.

This home has more than you will ever need for a relaxing time with family and friends. It is very clean with everything and more than advertised. The hosts are wonderful to work with. We prepared our own meals and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need. We loved the privacy and yet convenient location. We will definitely be back.

We all enjoyed our 3 generation family reunion at The Journey Home. The house and setting are perfect for a group to share together. The photos prepared us for what was there to use and enjoy. First of all, the location was so peaceful with acres of grass bordered by a barn, corn fields and fruit trees. Everyone had a favorite outside place to enjoy, the front porch rocker, the chairs in the yard, the side patio and the screened in porch. Plenty of space to spread out! Inside the house was equally spread out. The kitchen and adjoining dining space was a real gathering place for all generations. We cooked our meals and there was plenty of room. The kitchen had EVERYTHING we needed and more. The bedrooms & baths were spacious for the 14 of us to share. As it was 90 outside, the AC kept everyone cool. And the house was quiet for sleeping for the 2 babies we had with us. We used or did just about everything: visited the barn, played croquet, grilled, showed home movies, used the TV for photo viewing, s'mores at the fire pit, picked fruit, sat in the yard, sang, cooked and took a lot of photos! Laura (manager) was so responsive to our every request before and during our stay. She made us feel at home and then left us to enjoy.

Wonderful Property and Attention to Detail
Wonderful Property and Attention to Detail
My colleagues and I recently stayed at this wonderful property rather than in several Downtown KC hotels, while we were in town for a convention. It was so enjoyable to be together in this setting and we couldn't be happier with everything. The house is in a beautiful setting that allowed us to unwind while sitting together enjoying the scenery and feel of the Midwest. The house was clean, well appointed, and the owners/managers make it so easy and welcoming. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to families, teams, groups, etc. Some of the highlights for us were: using the well appointed kitchen to prepare meals together rather than eat out, sitting on the back porch and in the adirondack chairs, and watching tv together in a cozy, colonial room. Thanks Laura for a great stay!

Manager response: Awe! Evan, Thank you. You are very sweet! Please let me know if you are ever in the area again. We would love to have you. :)
Thank you for providing a lovely setting for our day-long work retreat. The home is lovely and Laura was extremely accomodating in providing the needed preparation and set-up. The home is lovely and provided a warm and welcoming environment for everyone. I received nothing but positive comments from those who attended. We are hoping to return in the spring to enjoy the porch and the lovely outdoor surroundings.

Manager response: Vicki, You are so very sweet. Thank you so much for your comments. We loved having you. Teachers and nurses are so very important. No one would be where he or she is without you! You are welcome to return as often as you like. :) We would love to have you back in the spring. Sincerely, Laura Leibman
This was a great house for our group. We had 14 adults and 12 kids. There was room for everyone. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies and the sitting and eating areas were large enough.

Super Clean and Super Spacious
Super Clean and Super Spacious
The home is gorgeous, spotless, and very roomy. The pictures on their website don't do the property justice. Usually it's the other way around, but this property is so much more brilliant in-person. A must see! It was super simple to make reservations. Plus, you get sooo much included with the rental price including all linens, general cleaning & toiletries, and dishes that serve 25. All included! An amazing escape from the typical rental where you have to bring all that stuff with you. The 2 fireplaces warmed the entire downstairs and kept the house warm and cozy. My family loved it. We had 4 children and 6 adults stay overnight, plus over 50 people total during the daytime on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A great place for large family gatherings with books, magazines, and games furnished as well! We will definitely go back for future family retreats.

An escape from the city without driving too far.
Journey Home was a great location for our company retreat. An escape from the city without driving too far. The home's layout, with multiple rooms available for breakout sessions, was just what we needed. The food prepared by our hosts was fabulous! The dessert....YUM!!! We highly recommend this location and will be planning future events! Thank you Journey Home for your hospitality.

4 Generation Family Reunion
Neiber (women) 4 generation family reunion. 17 of us came from Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. We loved your home, cooked in the kitchen, explored the property, swang on the wooden swing, had devotions and prayer time in the living room with a fire. Thank you for providing us with a beautiful home.

From the beginning, Laura responded promptly to all of our questions and changes. Words cannot describe what an amazing experience we had once we arrived. Very clean, spacious, and they really have thought of EVERYTHING you could possibly need. All the beds, furniture, and decor were elegant, tasteful, and comfortable, We had 5 families staying there for a wedding in Kansas City, and had the rehersal dinner of over 50 people at the house. The kitchen was SPACIOUS and well stocked... Very comfortable and accomadating. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 10.5. I cannot thank you enough for making such a memorable time for our family and friends..
