- Westminster is an area of central London, within the City of Westminster, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames, southwest of the City of London and 0.5 miles (0.8 km) southwest of Charing Cross. It has a large concentration of London's historic and prestigious landmarks and visitor attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey. Historically a part of Middlesex, the name Westminster was the ancient description for the area around Westminster Abbey – the West Minster, or monastery church, that gave the area its name – which has been the seat of the government of England (and later the British government) for almost a thousand years. Westminster is the location of the Palace of Westminster, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which houses the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The historic core of Westminster is the former Thorney Island on which Westminster Abbey was built. The Abbey became the traditional venue of the coronation of the kings and queens of England. The nearby Palace of Westminster came to be the principal royal residence after the Norman conquest of England in 1066, and later housed the developing Parliament and law courts of England. It can be said that London thus has developed two distinct focal points: an economic one in the City of London; and a political and cultural one in Westminster, where the Royal Court had its home. This division is still very apparent today....moreless

Excellent location for the perfect London weekendGuest comment entered by owner
Excellent location for the perfect London weekend
We had a wonderful stay in this incredibly well located apartment. Almost everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. The apartment is very well furnished, our toddler enjoyed the freedom of a 'home from home' that a hotel simply cannot provide. Although in the centre of London life, it was exceptionally quiet and peaceful. Both bedrooms were a great size, we made full use of the storage space, properly unpacked and thoroughly relaxed for the weekend. I have recommended this apartment to any friends planning a trip to London and the keen price make it an excellent alternative to a hotel. We look forward

Loved the apartment and the locationGuest comment entered by owner
Loved the apartment and the location
The apartment was exactly as we expected. Great layout for our family of four. We didn't expect the roll-away bed, so that was a plus for even extra spreading out (btw, there's a play pen too for a little one). The pictures paint the right picture of the apartment (versus relying on a perfect-only-from-this-angle kind of thing). Loved having the washer/dryer in the apartment (but I could have used instructions on making the dryer part of the combo work better, as this isn't a common combo machine I'm used to). The location was wonderful...St. James tube stop about a city block away, and lots of quick, easy places to grab something on the run as we came & left the apartment. We stayed a week. Plenty of drawer and closet space to meet our needs. Didn't use the kitchen much (it did seem to be fully equipped), but the fridge was handy. It's a 3rd floor walk-up; no problem for us, but FYI. It was well-kept, clean and nothing was dog-eared older. Really glad we chose this apartment!

We enjoyed this two bedroom one bathroom apartmentGuest comment entered by owner
We enjoyed this two bedroom one bathroom apartment
The positives - Boutique London Lets were easy to deal with & their instructions were straight forward. It's a 2 minute walk to St. James's Tube Station. Apartment was clean and located in a good area with many restaurants close by and a street market right out the front door during weekdays. The challenges - Street Market starts setting up during weekdays at 6am so lots of street noise early in the morning. Apartment located right off Victoria Drive a major thoroughfare so you do get traffic noise. Couch cushions in living room are worn and need replacing. Ipod dock didn't work. No mirror & plug for wife's hairdryer. No cutting board in kitchen and our biggest challenge was the 10am checkout.

Good location with many sights
We stayed for 5 nights as a couple plus our daughter and husband. The apartment clean and facilities good. It is 5 minutes walk from the Houses of Parliament and Westminster abbey. The door is situated in a small side street (Old Pye Lane) and accommodation looks out over Strutton Ground which is very lively during the week with coffee shops and delis catching the rush hour trade. It means you have a good choice for breakfast if you don't want to cook. You will find a number of places to eat in the evening locally. We ate in a reasonable Italian one night and had a particularly good meal in Browns up towards Victoria Station on the right. I chose rental rather than a hotel as because we needed two bedrooms, it worked out cheaper than the hotel we would have stayed in. All in all, no complaints at all.
