Barracca On The Bay is a new custom designed coastal vacation home on the East shore of the incredible Tomales Bay. Panoramic western views of the Bay and the Point Reyes National Seashore, fill the homes interior with an ever changing theater of waterfront vistas each season. Egrets, Herons, Pelicans, and seals are frequent visitors to the shoreline against a backdrop of the sparkling blue waters of the bay, and the untouched rolling hills of the Point Reyes beyond.
The lodge style home has aged cedar timbers vaulting all ceilings; decks, panoramic windows capture western seashore and bay views. Barracca is a great private get away spot for a family, intimate reunions of friends, or couples seeking a very private romantic country retreat.
Several regular guests return frequently for 'inspirational solitude' or retreats as they compose new music, work on novels, or capture the gorgeous environment for their art or photographic endeavors. Couples return for aniversaries and families return for new explorations of the many activities in the area and to create more cherished memories.

Why the Owner Chose Point Reyes Station
Point Reyes , Tomales Bay, and and the section of coast that Barracca is located on is one of the most untouched natural coastal areas within 1 hour of San Francisco. Unlike much of California it has changed very little in 60 years !
We were charmed by the surrounding pasture lands of the Marin Hills & astounded at the everchanging horizon over Tomales Bay each hour of the day, and each season of the year.
There was no larger waterfront parcel on the entire shoreline of Tomales bay with easy boating/kayaking access, nearby hiking,biking or such seclusion. Of course the miracle to us continues to be this gem could even be found with in an easy 1 hour drive from San Francisco and so few people seemed to know about it!
Hiking out to Tomales Point past herds of Tule elk, biking rural roads, kayaking at sunset, sailing, fishing,or just lounging on the deck provide restoration of the soul for our hectic family life in the Bay area.
We are "Foodies" at heart and you just can't beat the wonderful locally grown foods served at the numerous great restaurants nearby or sold at the markets in Pt Reyes Station.
One of our favorite things to do after a full day in the park or on the Bay is to head down to Hog Island Oyster company buy a few dozen oysters, go to the local market for their great organic produce, local wines,fresh seafood and gourmet cheeses.....then head home to Barracca for a sunset BBQ......making S"amores.....then a soak in the spa under the stars !
For longer stays; day trips to Napa Valley, Russian River, San Francisco, or Bodega Bay are all possible........After owning Barracca for over 25 years we are still discovering new hikes, and new adventures in the surounding area.

Steve designed the new Barracca to be a be a lodge style retreat.....and it is ! The worries of the world seem to melt away with the changing tides and sky.
There is a wonderful private beach a short walk from our door. Kayak rentals and boat launches just down the road. Gourmet dining and quaint turn of the century western towns a short drive away.
Our guests and family often choose to never leave Barracca for their entire stay just to relax and enjoy viewing the Bay, wildlife, sea life and birds.
The location of Barracca lends itself to short dirves to the north to Dillon Beach, Bodega Bay or the other charming rural towns and beaches of Sonoma. Day trips to Sonoma ,Healdsberg, Napa, and the wine country are entirely feasible as well. To the South is the quaint western town of Point Reyes STation, Bolinas Inverness. And across the Tomales Bay by kayak or car are thousand of acres and miles of diverse hiking trails, horseback riding, a light house to expolore, and naturalist guided hikes from the point Reyes Visitor Center at Bear Valley.
At Barracca the Great Room has a pretty full DVD/ Video /music selection as well as shelves of books,local hiking and wildlife guides, and a game & toy cabnet. There is also a conection dock for your MP3 or IPod at the stereo.
The deck has full western views for incredible sunsets, a picnic table for dining outside, and a new Jacuzzi that can accomodate 4-6,perfect for star gazing from at night!

Steve and Barbara purchased historical Barracca after scouring the California Coast
for a unique waterfront property that provided ; water and landscape vistas, easy boat/kayak access, beautiful sunsets, and as "Old California Coastal" character as they could find !
Barracca and it's site have over a 100 year history too incredible to convey here! Safe to say we found its site, location, views and non touristy rural surroundings too captivating to leave. Steve, a residential Architect of estate custom Homes in the Bay area designed and completely rebuilt the lodge style home in 2007. Retaining it's Coastal Lodge character and including the same antiques from the original home in the early 1900's while also upgrading all features: providing casual elegance and retreat amenities.
It has been a treasure to their family for multi-generation reunions, and also to guests who have visited to compose or create some of the finest music recordings, art work, or photography from the Bay area.
It has been a blessing to numerous couples, families and friendship get-a-ways
creating cherished memories year after year.

My husband, son and daughter-in-law spent an absolutely magical weekend at your home last spring! The weekend was spent hiking, eating oysters, drinking wine, grilling fish, playing games, reading and watching incredible sunsets from the deck. The house was clean, provisioned well, and offered amazing views from pretty much all vantage points in the house! We had a car so it was easy to get into town for some exploring and also to get around to the park. We would have gone kayaking had the weather cooperated with us, but hopefully that will be on our next visit. Thank you for providing a lovely home filled with charm, warmth and all the amenities we could have asked for. It was one of our most memorable getaways!

Our stay at Barracca could not have been better and we would hightly recommend it to anyone. Four longtime friends gathered to share a week in this wonderful space filled with the beauty of the west coast along with wonderful dinners overlooking the bay, afternoons lounging on the front deck sipping fine California wines, moments of relaxation in the hot tub, trips along the coast and through the wine valleys, kayacking on the bay and evenings by the fireplace watching our favorite movies. This home comes with everything one could need including a wonderful kitchen, plenty of sleeping space, fireplace, hot tub and great views from the house and the deck.

"Thanks so much for sharing this fabulous home in such an incredible place ! We celebrated our 36th Anniversary and Mothers Day here with our daughters and new son-in law......and it was the best. The ever changing water view, the serenity, the gorgeous comfy interiors are not to be matched. We will certainly be back again and again. The view , the sunsets are just mezzzzmerizing! We have stayed in Pt Reyes area many many times since the mid 90's and this is our favorite house by far our favorite !"

Thanks so much for again sharing this incredible home with us; our 36 Aniversary and a Birthday with our best friends. We have stayed in many homes or B& B in Pt Reyes and along the coast and this is by far our favorite. Its so hard to decide whether to sit right here and enjoy the fabulous views and solitude or head out to kayak, hike or horseback ride. Our sprits are restored each time we return.

We have stayed at this house with another couple or our family over the past 6 years. While we will sample another vacation rental in the area when we are too late in thought to reserve Barracca...we always regret our choice. This home has it all. Magnificent design, full water front views which can display endless hours of sunsets, or unstoppable views of the Point Reyes Seashore national Park. The web site picture don't do the home justice...vaulted cedar beamed ceilings throuught, and fully stocked gourmet kitchen, a quiet private site with a yard and raft or kayak launch. This home has an ambience you just dont find in B=B's or other vacation rentals. We cherish our time here and only wish owned this magical place or that we could stay longer each time. You will never regret your stay here,just don't spread the work too far its getting too popular.
