My family (myself, wife, son, daughter, and son in law) rented this house over Christmas 2012. It was awesome to say the least. Partly the house and partly the 6 feet of snow we got over our 6 day stay. The owner Mike and his partner Debbie are wonderful. They were great "landlords" and are great people. They came over every morning to shovel our walk and make sure our parking spots were assessable. They were also very accommodating at his shop, Mike's Mountain Sports, on providing ski and snowshoe equipment. The house is a work of art: it is beautifully built and very nicely furnished. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it came for sale (hint, hint Mike and Deb...). Overall, this place provides a wonderful experience and great vacation rental. Absolutely highly recommend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed in the upstairs apartment for 5 nights while I attended a conference (at Squaw). We specifically chose this place over another rental because we prefer to rent from individuals rather than from property management companies and historically this has resulted in a better rental experience. The place was physically attractive and in a good location but overall our experience was quite negative. Mike was friendly and welcoming but not responsive to our requests - there were only two towels in the place (no hand towels for the bathroom, no kitchen towels) and when we asked him for additional towels he did not return our phone call or provide additional towels. Furthermore, we chose this spot because it included internet and we both needed to do work. The internet connection was essentially non-existent and although Mike tried to fix the connection it turned out that was not possible since he didn't have a separate router for the rental and we were relying on the one from his house next door. And finally, Mike did not return our deposit check and more importantly did not return 3 phone calls and emails asking for the deposit check to be returned which meant that we had to pay to cancel the check. Our final impression was that Mike is not aware of, or willing to carry out, his basic responsibilities to his guests, which if nothing else at least means returning our emails and phone calls. He was not responsive to our very reasonable requests and it felt as if he was trying to save money in ridiculous ways (e.g. not having a dedicated internet connection). We generally prefer rentals to hotels and have used VRBO on a number of occasions, but we have never had a negative experience before and have always wanted to return to the places where we've stayed. We strongly suggest you look elsewhere for someone with more experience and greater commitment to addressing his guests' basic needs.Owner response: Thank you for your response we are sorry you felt it wasn't not a good vacation rental experience, Please understand this is a new property that went through a luxury remodel and we just listed in July. The upstairs apartment above the main house which you rented had a weak WiFi signal which we took care of by adding a WiFi Extender. We also added more towels and many other improvements, such as new furniture, tables, lamps, bedding, and other luxury items. Our policy on Security Deposit Checks is to shred them up. We appreciate you review and have addressed all issues. Very sorry again for your discomfort, we would like to offer you a free nights stay.

We really enjoyed our time at this vacation home. It is very beautiful inside and out..and feels extremely cozy. Mike was very wonderful and we are so greatful that he opened his home both us and our dogs. The main house is very spacious for a two bedroom and we never felt cramped. It is very close to Squaw Valley, Tahoe City and Truckee.. Great vacation!! Highly recommend!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We travelled to the area for a weekend wedding. The home accomodated our family of 4 adults and 2 children very nicely (one in a pak and play, one on the couch). The only drawback was that we did not find the towels for showering in the master bedroom until after using a beach towel found in the laundry area. (we found them near the guest bath hall shelving, not in the master bathroom like one would assume). Other than that, the beds were comfortable, the house gorgeous, and in close proximity to all local amenities.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We had a fantastic stay in Mtn. Moon cabin over Labor Day Weekend! The house is spectacular and has all the things you will need for your weekend in Tahoe. The beds are so comfortable, the yard is so pretty and the location is perfect. The walking/biking path through the valley is right out your front door. We even hailed the Squaw Valley Shuttle to bring us to dinner in the village so we didn't have to drive. We'd definitely rent this house again and reccomend it to others!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our family stayed for a week in the main part of the house (upstairs can be rented separately). The place has just been remodeled and the quality of everything is top notch. The larger downstairs unit includes a spacious deck and nice yard. Our young boy enjoyed playing fetch with friendly neighborhood dogs and the location meant we could ride our bikes into Tahoe City or Squaw Village is just down the street. Mike, the owner was very welcoming and available if we had any issues. I recommend staying here without reservation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.
