Private & Quiet Estate Casita
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Private Estate Guest House. Our casita is situated on a beautifully landscaped 2 plus acre estate in the exclusive Crest area of Encinitas. Expansive canyon views with fabulous views of the mountains and Rancho Santa Fe. We are located near Swami’s beach in highly desirable and walkable Crest Drive Encinitas.
Awake to beautiful sunrises, to the call of quail and dine watching hot air balloons in the evening. The Sedona like grounds are beautifully maintained with a koi pond and several secluded areas for peaceful relaxation.
The newly and tastefully decorated casita has one very private bedroom, one bath and a pull out queen sized sleeper in the family room complete with entertainment center, cable TV and fully equipped kitchen. There is ample off street parking. A large usable veranda complete with outdoor plantation like ceiling fans overlooks a canyon meadow abundant with quail, hummingbirds, and other wildlife.
DelMar Racetrack and LaCosta Spa are just a 5 minute drive away. Close to Legoland, multiple hiking trails and some of the best bicycling in California. It is a half hour drive to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park and SeaWorld.
Probably the best weather in the continental US. August average daytime high 74 degrees, low 60 degrees with cool sea breeze. When it is foggy at the beach it is typically clear here in the canyon.

My wife and I spent 4 days at the Casita following the Memorial Day Weekend. We needed to escape the looming Phoenix summer heat and return to Encinitas. The Casita is glorious; comfortable, private, situated overlooking the Valley. The "secret sauce" though, are the owners, Mac and Tricia Clarke. Gracious hosts who define above and beyond. On our last night, while we were in town at dinner, our dog managed to get out of the casita and run toward town. Tricia spotted her on her way home from work, spent considerable time and effort corralling her, and then took her into their house until our return. Lifesavers. If you want to enjoy the cool air of Southern California coastal living on a stunning property, and be in the hands of two genuinely caring and kind folks, this is your place. Oh, and you will love the rooster that hangs upside down day and night in his pen out back. Cheers.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Jen Thanks Guys for the wondetrful review. We miss you all! Tell Stevie that Juanita sends her regards. Hope to see you soon. Mac & Tricia

We had a wonderful time. The location is close enough to everything- freeway, coast highway, beach, shopping of all kinds. Owner very gracious. Fireplace and ceiling fans to accommodate all weather conditions. Beautifully furnished and lovely canyon view. The ONLY very small negative is the huge dog kennel next door. (I thought it was a convent at first). The dogs can be heard, but not loudly, and it did not disturb us. We even had some relatives over for a visit; they all loved the place. I would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank You Theresa for your review. We hope to see you again soon. Mac and Tricia

Mac and Tricia, We cannot thank you enough. Your home was everything we could have hoped for and more - peaceful, beautiful, with warm and friendly hosts. It was romantic enough for the two of us adults and comfortable enough for our 8 year old son who enjoyed all the outside areas. The bed is amazingly comfortable. the kitchen perfectly stocked, and the layout ideal. Sitting on the deck overlooking the valley in the early morning and watching the balloons in the afternoon was such a treat. It was hard to leave to go out for the day!!! We will definitely return and definitely recommend your vacation rental to anyone visiting the San Diego area. All our best, Mario & LisaRecommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

A beautiful casita perched on a bluff overlooking acres of natural area with unobstructed views. Owls and hawks flying around and chickens in the yard. The compound is very private, serene and quiet. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Many comfortable seating areas outside and a killer deck equipped with an infra-red BBQ.....be careful not to burn your meal. Good bye Best Western and hello Casita on Crest Dr. Loved it!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Everything about our experience was more than positive including wonderful hosts who welcomed our pet and made sure we had everything we needed. This casita is spacious and cosy and has a delightful covered deck with a view. We plan on returning to this quiet retreat. Encinitas is an interesting town with an attractive downtown area. Good restaurants and great beaches are within easy reach.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

What a gem! We loved the views, watching hot air balloons lift off, sunrise, and the textural gardens. The outdoor living at this property was very commodious, with lots of outdoor dining and seating options. The gas grill was perfect for steaks and fresh fish. We actually stayed in to eat, it was so pleasant to stay home and enjoy the ambience. The stylish open-plan living area incorporates a living room with fireplace, dining area and well equipped kitchen. In the bedroom there was ample wardrobe space with a walk in closet with an abundance of hangars. Ahhh, the bed was dreamy, and the custom tile work in the bath appreciated. The owners are great hosts, sharing local information and even providing a waterproof map for one adventure. Gracious too, we were there over the holidays and found a fresh poinsettia along with just enough tasteful decorations to mark the season. Encinitas is home to the Paul Ecke Ranch, the world leader in poinsettias. Loved this location, more convenient than our stay in Rancho Sante Fe. We look forward to our return.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you've been searching for a sweet slice of paradise, consider your search over and done. This is it! I'd call this beautifully landscaped property an idyllic retreat. Nestled on a tranquil hillside, it overlooks the exquisitely verdant countryside below and the rolling California mountains in the distance. Sitting on the porch with an early morning cup of coffee -- or at dusk with a chilled glass of wine -- we felt as if we were being transported to some magical and mysterious land somewhere else in time. My husband and I have stayed in the finest hotels and inns around the world, and, all things considered, we cannot think of any quaint inn nor grand hotel accommodation that we liked better than this exceptionally private and charming casita. And as for the interior, it's not only spacious, it's also quiet, romantic, impeccably decorated...and the expansive view from inside overlooks the spectacular vista. To top it off, we were only minutes from the beach, and, nearby, there are a lot of artsy towns that are loaded with unique shops and great restaurants. When it comes to describing the experience at the casita on Crest Drive, I can easily sum it up with two simple words: ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks a bunch Ellen and Jeff!

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in this charming guest house. The property is truly one of a kind with all of the natural beauty surrounding it on this 3 acre estate. You are overlooking a beautiful canyon which is great for having morning coffee and watching the morning sunrise and relaxing on the deck at night with a cocktail. Tricia and Mac were excellent hosts and made sure everything was perfect for our stay. We will definately be back.Recommended for: People with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1995
About the owner: Tricia is a Real Estate Broker Asso. for Willis Allen since 2000. Mac is owner and CEO of Salient Networks for over 25 years.
Why the Owner Chose Encinitas:
The casita was completed in 2003 with highest quality of materials and has been available for family and friends over the years. Furnishings have been updated to accomodate out of town guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Mac and Tricia sought out property on Crest. It is the last remaining property that has acreage close to the coast allowing privacy, rural feel, yet close proximity to beach and amenities. Situated on an acre, the property is perched over a six acre parcel. Owls, coyotes, rabbits, hawks soar. The main house has been remodeled over the years and landscaping is drought tolerant. Prior animals included miniature donkeys, and as many as seven peacocks. Now the property has chickens, koi pond with turtle and dogs.
