We arrived to Casa Calida late on a Friday. After a long and eventful trip all we wanted was to put our son into bed (playpen was easy to set up:) and to have a cold drink. To our delight there were some cold beer in the fridge! After getting settled in the first night, we felt right at home. The outdoor living space is wonderful, private and shaded, and great lighting in the evening. We enjoyed vegging on the couch to a movie after spending the days at the gorgeous beaches and cenotes in the area. The backyard pool was a hit for our toddler. Anything and everything you would need for a day at the beach was provided. The bed in the master bedroom was soooo comfortable. We have visited the area several times and love the ease of travel and the natural beauty. We will most definitely be returning, and Casa Calida will be where we stay!!!! Thanks!

Home away from home
Home away from home
I arrived at Casa Calida the evening of Jan 10th, 2013. Even in the dark it was easy to find and the keys were in a lock box right outside the door. This little house felt like home immediately. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was water on the cooler, the beds were super soft an comfortable and the the home was very clean. The owners even left a lovely little welcome package with some tropical body wash, lotion and spray. It seems as though the owners put a in a lot of thought when furnishing and decorating this home. All the furnishings are really beautiful dark wood and fit perfectly in the space. The artwork on the walls and little decorative touches were really appreciated as well. I especially loved sitting on the back patio in the evening an admiring this stunning metal art piece over the pool. The back yard was really lovely! The pool was deeper than I expected and wonderful to sit in to cool off from the hot afternoon sun. There is also air conditioning in every room but I rarely used it. I found the ceiling fans were enough to cool off the rooms enough to be comfortable. A short drive (slowly cause the road is rough) through the back jungle road takes you to Chemuyil. There are a couple restaurants in town that I went to. Leo's Pizza and La Palapa. I recommend La Palapa to anyone visiting. Great food and the owner Valentine was always welcoming. There are also a few little grocery stores but I did most of my shopping at the Chedraui in Tulum. The Chedraui was easy to find and had absolutely everything you would need to make any meal. I recommend the ceviche pescado they had in the deli. You can drive to Tulum or easily take a collectivo. Turn left at the first set of lights coming in to Tulum, its on your left hand side. I didn't make it to the beach across the highway (just not a beach person) but if I had wanted to go, there was no shortage of beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers etc to take with me. They are all in the second bedroom and easily accessible. There are many other amazing things to do right in the area. Xel-Ha is a short 3km away and Dos Ojos Cenote is really close as well. I spent 2 days at Xcaret. For 35 pesos you can hop a collectivo there and take a cab back at night for 305 pesos. All in all, I really loved this little casa. I had a really hard time packing up and heading home. I can't wait to return!

Lovely home outside of Tulum
Lovely home outside of Tulum
The house was lovely! All the amenities you could need. The owners generously provided the beach gear, so all you need is your bathing suit. You do need a vehicle, however, as the house is outside of Tulum approx. 10 miles. The neighborhood is clean and personable and the police are very helpful with directions. The house is clean, the beds are very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. It is lovely to sit on the back porch and enjoy the stars. Would highly recommend!

An Amazing Vacation With My Family
An Amazing Vacation With My Family
I decided to stay at Casa Calida with one of my daughters, her son and two of my other grandchildren. We had an amazing vacation and couldn't ask for anything more. Casa Calida was well equipped with everything that we needed. My youngest grandson is just a year and a half and they had everything that he would need. The playpen was suitable and it fit in the master bedroom close to where his mother was sleeping. My 7 and 12 year old grandchildren were thrilled with the boogie boards and sand toys that were made available. They took them to the beach everyday. I personally liked the fact that I could pack up a beach chair and umbrella and sit and enjoy watching them play at the beach. On days that we didn't go to the beach we hung out in the back yard and enjoyed the dip pool. Thank goodness they had one. It was one of the main reasons for choosing Casa Calida. It sure helped beat the heat of July. The beds and pillows were comfortable and we slept very well through the nights. The kitchen was well stocked. We ate most of our breakfasts and lunches in and ventured out into Akumal or Tulum for dinner. If I needed to cook any bigger meals I think it would be no problem at all. We were given the code for the internet, which at times was at limited connection but it was enough for me to read my emails to stay in touch with work and skype my other family members if need be. The owners were easy to reach right from the get go, were super friendly and the property manager answered any questions that we had. We stayed in during the evenings. One complaint I would have is that the street light right outside the house was burnt out which made it a very dark street but this was out of control of the owners. We loved our stay at Casa Calida and intend on going again next summer! It's a beautiful little house with all the comforts that you would find at home.

Manager response: Elaine, we are happy that you and your grandchildren enjoyed your time at Casa Calida. From time to time the internet does give us issues but if you are patient enough it usually comes through in the end. It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we look forward to your return next summer!

About: Canada is COLD! And Alberta winters are FREEZING! That was one of the determining factors in deciding to purchase our vacation home in Chan Chemuyil. We LOVE to travel and we LOVE the Mayan Riviera. The beaches are spectacular, the people friendly, the culture amazing and what a better place to go to relax and get away from it all. We are the Schryvers from Radway, Alberta, Canada. My husband owns his own painting company and I am in the teaching profession so that has enabled us to travel quite frequently. We have a 3 year old son and another on the way that we hope to give as many cultural experiences throughout their lifetime as possible. We have made this Casa our 'Home Away From Home'....and invite you to enjoy the place that we love. This house is well equipped to handle families with a baby or young children.
We were in awe with Chan Chemuyil after visiting for 10 days back in 2008. After taking a few more trips to Quintana Roo we decided to take the plunge and purchase in this region. It has been one of the best 'crazy' decisions we've made. Everytime we travel we go on a new adventure. To us a vacation means relaxing so if it takes us 10 years to explore the whole region, so be it! You will definately want to return after experiencing the comfort and beauty of Casa Calida.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When we purchased this Casa it was very much in need of upgrades. It was our first 'New Home' and it was very exciting to pick out, design and purchase everything that we wanted for it. From picking out the towels and bedding to designing the furniture, we wanted it to feel like home. We wanted it to be inviting and comfortable and that's exactly what it is. We spend hours in the backyard with the music playing, enjoying the pool and cooking on the BBQ. With travelling with our young son, we have everything that he'll need. Sippy cups, Playpen, bathtub, water toys, bouncy chair, cartoons. This is why I think our home will be appealing to families.
