Private Homes, Historical Downtown house description
If you're like many people, you'll travel a good distance to get to our beautiful town. Once here, wouldn't it be great if you could tuck your car into a private, off-street parking spot and forget it? At Casa Amarilla, only eight blocks lie between you and the Plaza, the center of old town. In fact, all of Santa Fe's charm and history is easily accessible to you by foot from this lovely home. You can walk to over a dozen fine restaurants, the Georgia O'Keeffe and several other museums, movie theaters, bookstores, coffee shops, our top-rated Farmer's Market, grocery stores, the post office, the galleries of Canyon Road, and world-class shopping at Sanbusco Center and the Railyard. They are ALL within easy reach and the walking itself is at least half the fun. Exploring Santa Fe on foot is what brings its unique architecture, rich colors, and old world charm to life. Let Casa Amarilla be your starting point for entering the heart of the City Different.
As it is, Casa Amarilla's location is only part of its appeal. Set back in a deep garden lot, the house is a quiet retreat. A contributing historic adobe, its thick, rounded walls create a soothing, cool interior in the summer. In winter, radiant heat rises silently from under the brick floors throughout to create a cozy warm ambiance. A living room air conditioner cools the house during warm summer days. Eating al fresco on the shaded portal, you'll enjoy the sound of church bells and call of morning doves carried on the clear air.
The house is arranged so that the bedrooms are separated from the living and dining rooms by a long hall. Night owls won't disturb the slumber of anyone who prefers to turn in early. Throughout the house you'll find creative touches reflecting the whimsical folk art of our area. The living room, with its comfortable leather couches and chairs, is informal and inviting. The tile and tin work throughout the house reflects the style for which Santa Fe is famous.

- Here's a list of 10 Santa Fe treasures that locals enjoy. We recommend you check them out. All are within walking distance of Casa Amarilla. Look them up on Google for location and details. 1. Holy Spirit Expresso...on San Francisco Street on your way to the Plaza. A teeny tiny shop serving the best coffee in town. 2. The view of the city at sunset from the Cross of the Martyrs. Climb the stairs to read about NM history on the way up, or drive to the top. 3. A cool libation at La Fonda's Bell Tower bar. Another killer site for sunset viewing. Hang out in La Fonda's lobby for great people watching, too. 4. Walking east or west along the Santa Fe River. You'll find the path just a block from the house. 5. Cathedral Park. A beauty with tall trees and benches on the north side of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi ('the Cathedral'). 6. The Plaza Cafe. Sit by the big plate glass windows to watch travelers and locals on the Plaza amble by. Great pie. 7. Collected Works Bookstore on the corner of Galisteo & Water Streets. A great local independent bookstore with couches you can sink into. 8. Doodlet's Shop on the corner of Don Gaspar Ave and Water Street. Unique, inexpensive treasures you've never seen before, guaranteed. 9. The Travel Bug - a travel specialty store for adventurous people like you! You'll find everything you need for exploring the nearby national forests, wilderness areas, hiking trails, walking paths and parks. 10. The Santa Fe Farmer's Market. A riot of savory sights and scents every Tuesday and Saturday mornings during the summer (Saturdays only in winter). Consistently voted among the top ten farmers' markets in the country. In the Railyard....moreless

Casa Amarilla is in an excellent location--blocks from the Santa Fe Plaza--in a quiet neighborhood. The yard and patio are private and we were able to enjoy them, even in November. The house is comfortable and lovely. There was even eggs, coffee, and bread for breakfast and a bottle of wine to greet us. I hope to return and stay longer.

We chose Casa Amarilla for a month's because of its proximity to town and the plaza and the quiet neighborhood. It met our expectations. It was a pleasant walk to the Lensic, restaurants, museums, and shops. It was a short driving distance to other parts of town. It was conveniently located to grocery shopping. We enjoyed this well appointed home. It was comfortable , clean and well maintained . The rooms are spacious with lots of storage space . I especially appreciated the well equipped kitchen including pantry items. The garden patio was a lovely place to relax. It was nice to have off street parking as well.We appreciated the hospitality and personal touches of the wine, orange juice, fruit, bread and butter and eggs when we arrived. Thanks, Linda and Hope for helping to make our stay so satisfying.

We arrived after dark. The directions given to us by Linda were perfect and led us to the house perfectly in the dark. The outside lights had been left on for us, and lights were on in the house, inviting us in to a warm and welcoming Santa Fe ambiance. A bottle of wine, a dozen eggs and bread for breakfast were the great touches, and much appreciated after a hard day of travel. Can't say enough about the hospitality, decor, and price for the property. Just right. Thanks Linda

Great house, we'll appointed - best equipped kitchen for any VRBO property we have ever leased. Easy walking distance to major spots in the heart of Santa Fe. Great covered patio and fenced yard for a pet. We will definitely stay here again when schedules allow!

Home Away from Home
Home Away from Home
From the moment we opened the gate to Case Amarilla we felt right at home. A lovely pathway leads to the entrance, as well as to a wonderful, shaded huge portal, that was our outdoor living room. The house is welcoming, warm and very spacious, great furniture and a perfectly supplied kitchen. Everything was there, need dishes and a lovely big dining room to gather around, as well as a huge living room to lounge. AND the beds are really comfortable!!! The house is in a charming neighborhood, on a little side street, walking distance to the historic Plaza. It was easy to drive to and to go shopping from there. Overall, it was such a lovely stay, can't wait to come back and stay longer.

Casa Amarilla is an oasis in the center of Santa Fe: serene, spotless and comfortable. And we were so well provided for! We found fresh brown eggs, good coffee, Trader Joe's multi grain bread, & orange juice in the kitchen, even a bottle of wine and chocolates. What a difference that made for us! My only wish is that we had stayed longer. Thank you Casa Amarilla!

Casa Amarilla is a lovely home near everything you want to go to in Santa Fe. We loved the outdoor dining area on the patio and the well-stocked kitchen. Linda was very helpful with our questions. We look forward to another stay in the future.

A perfect home away from home
A perfect home away from home
My wife and I spent the month of June at Casa Amarillo and it was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. This adobe home with its thick walls, curved arches, brick floors, Mexican tiled kitchen and tiled bathroom floor was furnished very warm and tastefully with plenty of room to stretch out and lots of storage space. The queen size bed was very comfortable and the ceiling fan kept the room just right for sleeping. The weather was such that we were able to eat most of our meals on the patio and the grass, trees, and flowers of the yard added to the peacefulness of the setting. The home was very clean and the owners personal touches were very evident. Shortly after our arrival, the TV and DVD player broke and the owner immediately bought a new flat screen TV and Blue Ray disc player. They wanted their home to be comfortable for us. The home is even better than the pictures show and we would not hesitate to recommend Casa Amarillo to our friends and family. We hope to return in the near future; there is so much to see and do in Santa Fe and this home is an easy walk to the town plaza. We felt very safe and secure in the neighborhood and we had off street parking.

Perfect place, perfect location
Perfect place, perfect location
We come to Santa Fe as often as we can. This was our first time to stay at Casa Amarilla and it was wonderful. The location is perfect - close to the Plaza, the Railyard, and an easy walk to shopping and restaurants. The home was clean with comfortable furniture and a fabulous fireplace that we used every day, and the kitchen had more gadgets and appliances than our kitchen at home. Although we were there in March, the weather was such that the yard and patio were perfect for sitting outside with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Our dogs loved it too! We will definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it to all of our friends.

Why Private Homes, Historical Downtown:
Owner Note: I grew up in New York City and came west in the summers as a child to work on my family's cattle ranch in Northern New Mexico. Many years later, when I had the chance to purchase a home in Santa Fe, it was important to me -- being a city girl at heart -- that I be able to walk my town. A contributing historic home situated in Santa Fe's downtown barrio neighborhood, Casa Amarillo is central to everything. I love being able to explore the sights and sounds of old Santa Fe, get my shopping and errands done, and then return home on foot to the peace and quiet of this traditional adobe casa and its lush garden. It's the best of both worlds.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Thick adobe walls ensure a cool interior in summer months. A living room air conditioner and master bedroom ceiling fan further guarantee your summer comfort. Radiant heat rising through brick floors throughout create a cozy warmth in winter...and you can always enjoy the added ambiance of a fire in the fireplace.
