I am very happy to see this delightful accommodation on VRBO. My husband and I stayed there in the summer and we loved the rare experience of staying at a working winery. The accommodatin is attractive, inviting and comfortable. It would easily pass the "white glove test" for cleanliness, and it has a great shower. It provided us with privacy, peace and quiet and fabulous views. The Bear River Winery tour provided by Chris and Peggy was informative and fascinating. The interior design of the winery and shop, plus the wine tasting, added to the pleasure. We loved walking through the vineyard to the river and relaxing on the river bank while watching the tides of Bear River rise and fall as they were influenced by the Bay of Fundy tides. We also enjoyed just wandering around the property and seeing the vegetable and flower gardens and the fruit trees and bushes. Chris and Peggy were an excellent source of suggestions for shopping, sightseeing and dining in Bear River and the many interesting and lovely places within easy driving distance. We enjoyed all of that, but the part we enjoyed most was being in a place where we could "get off the power grid," and enjoy all the nature and tranquility surrounding us while staying in a very comfortable and relaxing accommodation. Our only regret was not having more than 5 days to enjoy this unique opportunity.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a great little gem hidden in the heart of Bear River! Chris and Peg offer a really unique twist on overnighting in Nova Scotia. Their guest room is very private with its own entrance but your gracious hosts are never far away tending their vines or working in the winery. They offer an informative tour of the vineyard and winery that includes a wine tasting. Chris was so patient and prompt in responding to my very many e-mails and he offered some great tips to help us plan our visit. It is obvious that Peg very seriously considers the comfort of her guests as the guest room is very cozy, inviting and clean. The tranquility of the vineyard, the amazing view of the valley and the charm and hospitality of Bear River all come together to welcome you to this special place. Allow yourself enough time because you will not want to leave.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: Peggy and I have been operating Bear River Winery since 2004. I am the winemaker and vineyard builder and Peggy manages the sales and shop. Together we work in the vineyard, garden and winecellars. Peggy was an art instructor at U Mass., and technical drafting and interior designer for several architectural firms in the USA. I was an antique dealer here in Nova Scotia for 42 years. I finished a second degree at Acadia University in Wolfville Nova Scotia when I was 50. Our winery development is a satisfaction for us both. It was a gentle learning curve.. 22 years of not rushing it. We focussed on the vineyard for the first decade and opened the winery in 2004 when we had proved that we could grow the familiar European grapes that most people recognize: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gamay, and this year... Merlot. After 22 years operating a growing winery business, the seasons, vineyard and winery develop a rythm that visitors enjoy as well. We both come from a scottish heritage of homecooking, self reliance and hospitality. We created our environment and our business with an eye to the conservation of natural and environmental resources and responsible winegrowing.
Why the Owner Chose Digby:
Our vineyard is a famous historical vineyard site with vines first planted here in 1611. The sunshine, the steep, stony, south slopes are typical of the best vineyards world.
