Terlingua house description
Villa Terlingua is a privately owned, lovingly refurbished 90 year old limestone ruin within the Terlingua Ghost Town, offering short term rentals by the room or the entire house.
The house was bought as a dilapidated ruin and painstakingly brought back to life over 16 years. Furnished with antiques, books and collectables picked up while traveling around the world, the home is part Mayan, part Malaysian and wholly Terlingua. I hope you will find its character as appealing as it is different, and the rooms as comfortable as those in an urban setting.
The only home rental in the Terlingua Ghost Town, is within 5 minutes of the infamous Ghost Town Porch and the acclaimed Starlight Theater Restaurant, yet it remains serenely quiet. From its hillside location to the north of the Ghost Town, it offers incomparable views of the rising and setting sun over the Chisos Mountains. How can this happen? Come and find out!

Location & View
The house looks out over the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park, similar to the view one gets from the Ghost Town Porch, which is a quarter of a mile away, just without 'the scene.' Here you can view the Park over a quiet cup of coffee for sunrise or over dinner that you made yourself. You can go to sleep staring at it, and wake up staring at it. Its pretty glorious....moreless

The Cowboy Wedding
I enjoyed every moment of this trip. The Villa is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. We spent most of our time outside on the rock patio which wraps around over half the house with breath taking views varying throughout the day and evening. Cynta was the treat we didn't know we would have along with the Villa. Cynta is a very intelligent, charming and warm soul. She knows the area and the people like the back of hand. We learned a lot about the beautiful Big Bend area especially Terlingua and it's people. When we were out and about visiting the area and surrounding towns we would mention where we were staying and they all knew Cynta and had nothing but wonderful things to say about her and also said her Villa was one of the 2 best houses to stay in the area. We will be back and hopefully have more time at the Villa visiting our new friend Cynta and Baxter!

I have never experienced such a relaxing comfortable stay and I travel a lot! Terlingua villa sits on top of a hill, where you will get an incredible breeze. Not to mention an unbelievable view. My favorite part was visiting with Cynta and Baxter. I felt like I was with family. What an awesome woman. I can't wait to go back!!

About the owner: I have been a river guide here on and off for 10 years, still do Elderhostel (Road Scholar) trips on occasion, and am the historian of the Ghost Town. I am a member of the Terlingua community and I celebrate this lifestyle everyday.
Why the Owner Chose Terlingua:
The house is a 90-year-old limestone rock ruin with 18 inch thick walls. It housed five Mexican miner families during the mercury mining boom here (1903 through 1943) with two outdoor great rooms where they cooked and slept in the summer. I put in a 14-foot-ceiling so the air would flow better and so there could be loft space. The replacement rocks all came from my property. The rock mason, a Comanche/Mexican artisan, napped everything with my geology rock-hammer – not an electric saw. The walls are exquisite and belong in a church, hence the old name for my house, “Our Lady of Perpetual Construction.”
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Inside, the kitchen and dining area are the center of everything, with all three bedrooms attached from this central point. Each bedroom has beautiful rock walls, big windows and wondrous bedding. Adjacent to the master bedroom is the den, with tons of books and a Rumford fireplace. There is one large bathroom with claw-foot tub and shower, flush toilet and its very own private flower garden. The house has a fully open floor plan with decorative rugs separating the rooms; the only interior doors are to the bathroom. The largest room in this house is actually outside; it’s the porch, which is used for much of the year; and there are sitting areas in various places around the house because sometimes the views are where you’d least expect them. WiFi runs throughout the premises, both inside and out. Also, when you rent this place you also get me; I have been a long-time guide here and know this country intimately. I live next door and am always available, if needed, to help you plan your vacation, show sustainable building techniques or to help you find out which desert plants make the best tea.
