The Water House is the ultimate getaway for nature lovers. Our totally secluded two bedroom house sits on 1,200 private, wooded acres next to 25,000 acres of State Lands and yet is less than 5 minutes to the charming town of Milford.
The enchantment starts when you drive ½ mile down the long driveway and walk over an old-fashioned wooden foot bridge to the Frank Lloyd Wright-style house, nestled right on the Sawkill stream, with the pine forest behind.
You will have total privacy in this incredibly comfortable, all-season vacation home. The house is very spacious, with a huge living/dining area, cathedral ceiling w/wooden beams, hardwood floors, and knotty pine walls. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are 2 bedrooms: the master bedroom has a king-size bed w/ private bathroom and private entrance, and the other bedroom has a full-size bed w/ a twin, and a private bath. There is also a comfortable, built-in daybed in the living room. A crib is available as well.
The large, furnished screen porch is the place to be in the summer, where the view is breathtaking. A beaver meadow sits in the middle of the wide stream, with the water flowing swiftly past the house. There is a grill and a firepit on a little peninsula by the stream, where you can sit by the fire at night. Hiking is plentiful on the property, and you can kayak and canoe right from the banks of the stream.
In the fall and winter, you will want to move inside to the cozy, romantic stone fireplace. In every season, the huge picture windows overlooking the stream will keep you connected to nature and the abundant wildlife that lives on the stream. This is a great place to introduce your kids to camping and to stream and forest ecology.
Writers and artists looking for total privacy and the tranquility of nature and flowing water will find it here.
This charming property is only 4 miles from Milford, PA. which Atlantic Magazine once called 'The prettiest county seat in America'.
3/4 of the quaint town of Milford is a National Historic District featuring Galleries, Antiques, Coffee Shops, Restaurants, Boutiques and Specialty Shopping.
Milford is adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park and the federally-protected Upper Delaware Wildlife and Scenic River offering a wide array of river activities.

My husband, myself and our children spent a long weekend at this little house in the woods. The spot could not have been more perfect--completely private (the kids spent the weekend playing in the creek in their underwear!), yet just minutes from town--the food store, pizza place, ice cream stand...wine ;) Milford is a great little town, we spent a few hours exploring the nearby Grey Towers estate which was gorgeous. We also enjoyed a good diner breakfast at the diner in town (can't remember the name!) The house is older and in need of some updates, but was very relaxing and comfortable. Nancy (the owner) has since told me they are in the process of updating certain things. She and her daughter were both very nice and totally accommodating and helpful, especially when there was an issue with the dishwasher. Like the previous reviewer said--it's not a 5 star hotel. Its a perfect little cabin in the woods that genuinely feels like you're away from it all. We hiked, fished, caught frogs and crawfish, canoed and roasted marshmallows. And for anyone with small children--the stream in front of the house was only about 2' deep at most. Our 2 year old safely stood on the rocks in ankle deep water throwing stones. The kids (and us) were sad to leave 'our' little house in the woods--and can't wait to return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My wife and I went with our three kids (6, 4, and 1.5 yrs old) to have a private family trip with time outdoors...and that's what we got! The cabin is perfectly nestled in an absolutely private and tranquil spot but still close enough to make an easy drive to local amenities. This was the first "outdoorsy" trip for my kids and it was great exposure for them to the woods. Without leaving the property and remaining in complete privacy we managed to go light hiking, play in the creek, canoeing, bug catching, frog watching, fishing (not much to fish for though!), BBQ and campfire. The cabin is very quaint and pretty simple so we brought many of our own kitchen supplies and enjoyed the relaxation in the cabin. To be fair, it's not a five star hotel - but it's still quite a good cabin with the necessities for living and great access to the outdoors. The owner was also available for anything we needed and an absolute pleasure to work with. Nearby we also drove to the Milford beach and Raymondskill falls, both within a 15 minute drive - overall this was very relaxing for us and a great experience for our kids!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.
