Milford house description
The Water House is the ultimate getaway for nature lovers. Our totally secluded two bedroom house sits on 1,200 private, wooded acres next to 25,000 acres of State Lands and yet is less than 5 minutes to the charming town of Milford.
The enchantment starts when you drive ½ mile down the long driveway and walk over an old-fashioned wooden foot bridge to the Frank Lloyd Wright-style house, nestled right on the Sawkill stream, with the pine forest behind.
You will have total privacy in this incredibly comfortable, all-season vacation home. The house is very spacious, with a huge living/dining area, cathedral ceiling w/wooden beams, hardwood floors, and knotty pine walls. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are 2 bedrooms: the master bedroom has a king-size bed w/ private bathroom and private entrance, and the other bedroom has a full-size bed w/ a twin, and a private bath. There is also a comfortable, built-in daybed in the living room. A crib is available as well.
The large, furnished screen porch is the place to be in the summer, where the view is breathtaking. A beaver meadow sits in the middle of the wide stream, with the water flowing swiftly past the house. There is a grill and a firepit on a little peninsula by the stream, where you can sit by the fire at night. Hiking is plentiful on the property, and you can kayak and canoe right from the banks of the stream.
In the fall and winter, you will want to move inside to the cozy, romantic stone fireplace. In every season, the huge picture windows overlooking the stream will keep you connected to nature and the abundant wildlife that lives on the stream. This is a great place to introduce your kids to camping and to stream and forest ecology.
Writers and artists looking for total privacy and the tranquility of nature and flowing water will find it here.
This charming property is only 4 miles from Milford, PA. which Atlantic Magazine once called 'The prettiest county seat in America'.
3/4 of the quaint town of Milford is a National Historic District featuring Galleries, Antiques, Coffee Shops, Restaurants, Boutiques and Specialty Shopping.
Milford is adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park and the federally-protected Upper Delaware Wildlife and Scenic River offering a wide array of river activities.

There's really not much more I can add to the previous reviewers positive comments. The house and property are both fantastic. My husband and I were looking for a quiet, secluded, cabin-like place for a romantic weekend. The Water House turned out to be just what we were looking for. The house is cozy, well-maintained, and clean. The property is a sprawling pine forest with a wonderful creek running right along the house. Like others have said, if you're looking for all of the usual amenities, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a peaceful stay in a charming home with amazing property, this is your place. Nancy was a pleasure to deal with and made the rental process a snap. We really hope to return for a longer stay in the spring.

Perfect setting for the three of us - who met and spent blissful summers at a nearby camp -to be campers again (well, in relative luxury and with 30 years of maturity!) Can't say enough about the hospitality, the tranquility and the natural beauty. If you go, don't miss a quick trip into Milford to check out all of the restaurants and newer shopping! We hope to be back!

Adored the place! We will be back!
Adored the place! We will be back!
First, I want to say that I am writing this review reluctantly. I am fearful this cabin will get too popular and we will not be able to rent it again in the future. My family and I are very huge outdoor enthusiasts, who love roughing it in nature. We love hiking, fishing, boating, camping, you name it…. This year though, we decided not to camp because we have an 11 month old and wanted a somewhat easier go of our vacation. So the prerequisites were, decent price, decent place, near water, and SECLUDED. We were more than happy when we stumbled on this cabin for rent and even happier when we got there. The scenery is amazing! We just loved the water and the bridge to the cabin. We loved the long rough drive to get there and how my husband got to drive the SUV across the stream, ( I think that was his favorite part). We loved the fact it was located in between the Delaware National Water Gap park and in the Poconos. There were so many fun and cool things to do within an hour drive or less. We loved the rustic nature of the furniture and the place itself. I especially LOVED the book selection. Most importantly, we loved historic value of the place. I won’t give it away; it is a special surprise you will need to figure out yourself. I will give you one tip, pay attention to the clues in the home and in the area. If you are looking for a 5 star resort with all the amenities, do not bother with this rental, it is not for you. If you are looking for all themodern day comforts, such as; television, internet, modern furniture and decorations, again do not bother with this cabin. If you are looking to disconnect from your life and actually ‘get away’ from it all, to enjoy nature, and to enjoy peace and quiet, then this cabin IS FOR YOU! Although I admit, we did bring our laptop so our oldest could watch movies at night and us adults could have grown up time by the fire… and I did enjoy the less than ‘roughing it nature of this cabin, with its running water, bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, and washer and dryer. Ok, so we cheated, I guess we were not completely cut off from the modern world. I do not regret it though, and highly recommend this cabin to future renters. P.S. My 10 year old read this and said I forgot to talk about the baby birds next to the porch, all the frogs in the frog pond, the baby bunnies, the deer, river crawfish and all the other animals we saw while there, and her baby sister loved it all too.

Pure Bliss, Tranquility, and Serenity!!
Pure Bliss, Tranquility, and Serenity!!
I had the absolute pleasure of staying at "The Water House" a few weeks ago! What was supposed to be a getaway with friends turned into a solo vacation at the last minute, but I decided to carry on alone, & it was the most relaxing, recharging, fulfilling vacation I can ever remember! The house & property are absolutely beautiful! Rustic, not modern, but that was the draw for me! As other have said, this isn't a 5 star hotel. It's a house in the middle of the woods! On a beautiful stream! Surrounded by peace & quiet, except for the sounds of bullfrogs in the pond just outside the large screened porch! I was concerned about staying alone in the woods, but Nancy, the owner, assured me it was completely safe, & I have to say I never felt anything other than a sense of calm! Although it's completely private, it's less than 5 minutes by car into the heart of the town of Milford! Nancy & her step-daughter, Leila, were friendly & helpful through all steps of the rental process & during my stay, not just regarding the house, but places to eat or visit if I so desired. The house is very comfortable. The living room is large & spacious, with views from all four sides, dining table views from full length glass windows overlooking the creek, & a beautiful stone fireplace. The kitchen is small, galley style, definitely dated, but with stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher. What else could you need in the woods?! Both bedrooms are spacious, with doors to the outside. Each has it's own full bathroom. The house isn't air conditioned, but between the many windows & the fan found in the house, I was always comfortable, even though it was unseasonably hot during my stay! There is no TV, phone, or internet in the house, but I was able to use my cell phone & get a 3G connection with no interruption! There is a small TV/DVD player at the house for watching movies, but I couldn't get it to work, which I informed Nancy of. It was fine with me...I was looking to really get away from all that! Nature walks, exploring, canoeing, sitting on the porch or waterside, just reading or relaxing...if this is what you are looking for, then this is the perfect retreat from the fast pace of everyday life! The photo of the creekside Adirondack chairs captioned "sit by the firepit & watch the blue herons" sold me on this place! And although I only found 1 Adirondack chair, on my last night as I was sitting right there, 4 blue herons flew up from the creek! Pure bliss!!!

My husband, myself and our children spent a long weekend at this little house in the woods. The spot could not have been more perfect--completely private (the kids spent the weekend playing in the creek in their underwear!), yet just minutes from town--the food store, pizza place, ice cream stand...wine ;) Milford is a great little town, we spent a few hours exploring the nearby Grey Towers estate which was gorgeous. We also enjoyed a good diner breakfast at the diner in town (can't remember the name!) The house is older and in need of some updates, but was very relaxing and comfortable. Nancy (the owner) has since told me they are in the process of updating certain things. She and her daughter were both very nice and totally accommodating and helpful, especially when there was an issue with the dishwasher. Like the previous reviewer said--it's not a 5 star hotel. Its a perfect little cabin in the woods that genuinely feels like you're away from it all. We hiked, fished, caught frogs and crawfish, canoed and roasted marshmallows. And for anyone with small children--the stream in front of the house was only about 2' deep at most. Our 2 year old safely stood on the rocks in ankle deep water throwing stones. The kids (and us) were sad to leave 'our' little house in the woods--and can't wait to return!

Great private escape!
Great private escape!
My wife and I went with our three kids (6, 4, and 1.5 yrs old) to have a private family trip with time outdoors...and that's what we got! The cabin is perfectly nestled in an absolutely private and tranquil spot but still close enough to make an easy drive to local amenities. This was the first "outdoorsy" trip for my kids and it was great exposure for them to the woods. Without leaving the property and remaining in complete privacy we managed to go light hiking, play in the creek, canoeing, bug catching, frog watching, fishing (not much to fish for though!), BBQ and campfire. The cabin is very quaint and pretty simple so we brought many of our own kitchen supplies and enjoyed the relaxation in the cabin. To be fair, it's not a five star hotel - but it's still quite a good cabin with the necessities for living and great access to the outdoors. The owner was also available for anything we needed and an absolute pleasure to work with. Nearby we also drove to the Milford beach and Raymondskill falls, both within a 15 minute drive - overall this was very relaxing for us and a great experience for our kids!
