Had a great time. Thank you!
Had a great time. Thank you!
"We had a wonderful time. We visited on our anniversary. It was a great place to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet. We saw lots of wildlife including deer and wild turkeys. Everything was really nice and clean. We visited Murphys and did some local wine tasting. We enjoyed meeting the horse! We called him "bean" the whole time we were there after he took a sip of my coffee and made a really funny face. We found out when we left that his name is really Star. Margaret was a great host!

Late summer getaway
Late summer getaway
Thank you Margaret for making me feel so welcome (I was greeted with a smoothie from the fresh fruit on the property & home made cookies!). Every morning the sun rise made me go out & walk your beautiful property & see all the abundant wildlife around- wild turkeys, beautiful horse, birds, rabbits...I was able to sit & appreciate life in many of your sitting areas, enjoying the magnificant views- especially sunset. So much to explore just minutes away with Natural Bridges (easy hike & a refreshing swim thru a cave!), Moaning Cavern, Murpheys, & Mercer Cavern...not to mention Calaveres Big Trees. The cottage was clean & very comfortable (fresh historic figs right outside my door) & the driveway was very easy. Im glad I didnt stay in town so I could experience nature at its finest here! I felt completely safe here by myself & I cant wait to visit in the spring! This is a photographers dream up here! Thank you again Margaret!!

Fourth of July getaway
Fourth of July getaway
My husband and I recently stayed at this cabin over the Fourth of July weekend. Margaret is a wonderful person and extremely friendly (also very accommodating), but we weren't impressed with the cabin. The photos she has on the website are accurate; however the house must not have been rented for a while before we came because the bathroom toiletries smelled a bit musty and old. Given, it was 106 degrees outside when we arrived so it could have been the heat.. But we did pay a refundable deposit so we expected fresh linen. The swamp cooler did not work very well and the Wifi is TERRIBLE. My husband and I both have Verizon service and we did not have any phone or internet connection until we got into Murphys, which is probably a 20 minute drive from the cabin. The bed is very uncomfortable and the swamp cooler is SO loud. Unfortunately it is in the room with the only TV in the house so you have to blast the TV to hear it. The price point is fair and Margaret is a good person but we had higher expectations and they were not met. We wouldn't stay here again but maybe this type of cabin just isn't for us. The cabin is off the beaten path down some gravel driveways and up some small hills. I was very surprised about this, since my husband and I brought our small car and weren't prepared to drive on such rough terrain. We decided to leave a night early because we found broken beer bottles off to the side of the back deck and we'd had about enough. I wouldn't recommend this for children, as there truly is nothing to do. It is far from town and there is no cable. Movies will become their best friend! I wish Margaret great success in renting the cabin in the future. Next time the hubby and I will stay closer to town.

Manager response: It is disappointing when guests tell us what a great time they had & then write a review that states something different. I will address the comments in the order stated in the review. It had not been awhile since the house was rented as we had guests check our 5 days before their arrival so linens were freshly washed and the bathroom cleaned & sanitized. It is reasonable to expect fresh linens & that is what we provide. I personally iron the sheets & pillow cases. I do a walk through before guests arrive to make sure everything is clean & in order. There is no musty smell as we are in a dry climent and there is also lavender oil in the bathroom and other rooms which gives off a fresh scent. The swamp cooler works great, however, we are unable to control the weather & because there was a heat wave & it was 106 to 108 degrees during their stay it probably did not get as cool as they wanted. All air conditioners and swamp coolers do make some noise. In addition to the cooler there are fans available. The WIFI antenna & repeater is located on this house & there is a modem in it so the reception should be good. I had difficulty with Verizon in the past & have switched to AT&T which is much better. I have good reception most places on the property. Murphy's is 5.2 miles from here taking 7 minutes with traffic. according to Mapquest. (Not 20 min.)The bed has a new box spring & firm mattess. The cabin is conveniently located across from Moaning Cavern Park & close to Murphys, Angels Camp, Melones Lake, Ironstone Vineyard, Columbia State Park (a charming & delightful gold mining that the state has preserved-stage coach rides, gold panning & more) golf courses, antique shops, fine dining & fast food eateries, live theatre & concerts, etc. Our property is located on Parrott's Ferry Rd. which is a main blacktop road connecting Hwy. 4 and Hwy. 49. There are not several gravel driveways or small hills. Our driveway is gravel & there are slight inclines. If there were broken bear bottles off to the side of the back deck they would have been noticed when the table & chairs were set out before the guests arrival. Upon reading the review a check was made & no broken bottles were located.Brittany told me they spent the day at the lake & had a terrific time when I spoke to them their second night here. Guests, including children, enjoy walking the trails, fishing, the wild life, etc. & nearby attractions. Perhaps 5 miles is a long way for the closest town for some.We welcome you.

Peaceful get-a-way - Back again
"We have stayed here on more than one occasion and will be coming back in the near future. If you need some place to relax this is the tranquil place to come. We took evening walks and saw deer and other wildlife. I spent time down at the lake fishing and reading and it was wonderful. But if your in the mood for somethin else, there is much to do close to the gardens. We went jet skiing just 10-15 minutes away. The property is beautiful and kept up nicely. Marge is always gracious and informative. See you soon."
