Lincoln Park house description
Built in the 1880s, this home was extensively
renovated about 20 years ago by architect Stuart
Cohen, and featured in Architectural Digest. Cohen
did a beautiful job of preserving original vintage
details like handsome plaster moldings, antique
marble fireplace mantles and dramatic ceiling
heights, while redefining the space with the use
of dramatic accents including a two story atrium,
the addition of skylights and new windows
overlooking Dickens. Other features of his design
include an oval shaped dining room, and the addition
of an attached garage with a family room
and roof deck above.
You enter the home through a set of double doors into
a dedicated foyer. The living room includes a large bay
window with built in seating and a fireplace with an antique mantle.
The oval dining room can be separated from the living room with a pair of floating doors; it also has an antique fireplace. It is a wonderful room for eating and socializing, but during the summer you should consider the roof deck for dining.
The galley-style kitchen includes top of the line appliances (including a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Bosch
dishwasher, a Viking gas range, and a wine cooler), a
stainless steel farm sink, and a subway tile backsplash.
The family room has a fireplace flanked by built-ins, and
a breakfast nook with a skylight with desk, scanner and printer. This room is great for lounging with a full sized sectional couch that can seat at least 6.
The upper level was designed as a luxurious master
suite. The bedroom has windows on three sides including large bay window with built-in window seat,
a fireplace with antique mantle and a built-in desk. There is king size Termpur-Pedic bed with very comfortable linens and a spacious wardrobe closet for guests.
The marble master bath has a double vanity and steam
shower. There is also a bonus room with a skylight
that be used by guests for additional storage of clothes and luggage.
A large roof deck overlooking Oz Park is also accessible on this level. The deck is always decorated with flowers, and has all the amenities including gas grill, dining table/chairs, giant umbrella, and ultra plush couch and lounge chairs.
The street level is accessible via stairs, or from the outside via a front and side door. Two bedrooms share a “jack and jill” bath. Each bedroom has hardwood floors; the front bedroom has another fireplace. The front bedroom is set up as a TV/game room with flat screen TV and Sony PlayStation3. Mothers beware there is also a Playseat/Logitech racing simulator that is a favorite with kids and fathers. Sleeping in the game room is on the couch or queen size Aerobed (linens included). Sleeping the back bedroom is on a queen sized bed with more pillows than any bed should have.
There is also a powder room and laundry/mud that is far enough away from the bedrooms not to disturb late sleepers.
The garage is available to guests which also provides access to the house. If you have more than one car, no problem as there is always parking across the street where no permits are required.

About: We split our time between Chicago and San Francisco. Chicago is our home, but spend a good deal of time in SF which is when we make this home available. We have just listed our Chicago home for the first time, but have been renting a little garden apartment in SF on VRBO for several years. There are plenty of reviews online so please check them out to get a sense for how we have been doing.
Why Lincoln Park:
Howe Street is a great Lincoln Park street. Our block is just off Armitage and not far from the Armitage Brown Line stop. We lived just down the block on Howe for almost ten years and always wanted to buy this house. We got our chance a couple of years ago and did not hesitate.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is flooded with natural light through a giant skylight and double level atrium with floor to ceiling windows. Very unique features in a Victorian. It has great period details and because it is a corner house, it is the only one in the neighborhood with roof deck overlooking the park. This is our dream house and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
