This is a great house. My only suggestion would be that it needs a really, really good cleaning - particularly around the edges of the rooms. There was a lot of built up dirt/dust. The furniture is a bit old, but why would the owner hurry to replace it, when there are always "those" renters that don't respect things that belong to someone else. Once you get past that, the house had everything that our family of 8 adults and 2 small children needed. All the appliances worked. We had plenty of bedrooms and open space to spread out, yet be together. The location was good and our beach was never crowded. I started coming to OBX approximately 30 years ago, but had not been there for maybe 10-15 years. Some of our group had never visited. It was great to see that some of the restaurants and businesses that I remembered were still there - Owen's, Kelly's, Awful Arthur's, Port O' Call. We had a wonderful dinner at the Tale of the Whale and visited the aquarium and the Elizabeth II just down the road in Manteo. There is a fabulous seashell and gift shop called the Shipwreck Museum right before the bridge to Manteo on the right. We found lots of goodies there! We all had a great time, despite the not-so-cooperative weather, and everyone wants to do it again! We came from 4 different states just to be together at the BEACH, so we weren't bothered by the age of the house and it's contents, and we did enjoy the jacuzzi! I would recommend it to people I know, as long as they know what to expect.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Unfortunately the guest arrived toward the end of the summer with over 100 different guests having stayed. Mid season cleaning took place the week after the guest departed. We have to schedule an owner week to really clean the place as was done. These rental houses take much abuse with things being broken a week after replacement. The cleaning crew only has one day to clean over 10 houses usually in a 4 hour period which isn't much time. If the guest arrived a week later the house would have undergone the mid season cleaning and have been in much better shape. We do have staff on call for emergencies and for emergency maintenance situations.
