Why the Owner Chose Motueka:
Ruby Bay Retreat is a home away from home, accommodation that affords the opportunity for complete relaxation at a unique rural hideaway beside the sea. There are spectacular sea, rural and mountain scenes of Nelson’s Tasman Bay from this property. The sunrises with vibrant colour and light can be viewed through the windows or on the verandah and there are stunning sunsets across the rolling hills of apple orchards, olive groves and vineyards to snow clad Mt Arthur. Watching the full moon rising over the water, the night lights of Nelson twinkling across the bay and the expansive southern star studded clear sky at night is a marvellous sight. This Retreat is very special.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Ruby Bay on the Moutere coast is an ideal location for exploring the Nelson Region – visit Pupu springs and Farewell Spit in Golden Bay, go hiking on Karamea’s Heaphy Track or visit the Marlborough Sounds. Ruby Bay Retreat is a perfect base to explore the Abel Tasman National Park - walk, kayak or travel by launch along the coastal inlets and islands. Kahurangi National Park, and the Nelson Lakes are also close by. There are local beaches we regularly swim at or in the pure Lee River, and sometimes at Kaiteretere Beach with its golden sand. So many things to do - fishing, play golf nearby at the Kina Golf Course or enjoying fresh fruit from the orchard. Nearby is the Mapua village and wharf, with shops. There are many award-winning restaurants, wineries and arts and crafts studios in the Moutere District. Visit the farmers’ and crafts markets at the weekend. Richmond and Motueka shopping centres are not far away. Air NZ flights link Nelson with International airports - Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The Inter-island Ferry Terminal at Picton is 2.5 hours hours driving time away. The Ferry operates between Picton and Wellington via the Malborough Sounds. You can travel from Christchurch to Nelson via the Kaikoura Coast, and go whale watching, or through the Lewis Pass via Hamner with it's hot pools: 6 hours drive. After staying at Ruby Bay Retreat consider travelling down the West Coast of the South Island to experience very spectacular scenery via Murchison, down the Buller Gorge to Punakaiki, Hokitika, Franz and Fox Glaciers, then through Haast Pass to Wanaka and Queenstown: A two day drive.
