This charming 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in Old Colorado City was built in 1918. It has been updated and renovated to provide comfort to today's traveler without losing the appealing touches not to be had in more “modern” homes. With plenty of open living space for the whole family (including living room, dining room, kitchen, front porch and reading nook), this house easily accommodates 4 people (up to 6 utilizing the provided air mattresses). Colorfully decorated with light colors, vaulted ceilings and comfortable furniture, the house welcomes tired travelers in need of a getaway!
The property includes a fully fenced yard as well as off-the street parking in the back. The fully equipped kitchen includes all dishware, cutlery, pots and pans, small appliances (such as coffee maker, toaster, blender, etc.) and large appliances (refrigerator, oven and dishwasher) needed to accommodate any meal preparation. Linens and towels are also available for your use, as well as access to a washer and dryer on-site.
The house is perfectly situated to take advantage of all that Colorado Springs has to offer! It is within walking distance of Old Colorado City’s famous shopping and restaurants, but also easy access to grocery shopping and drugstores and I-25. Hiking is only minutes away by car as well as downtown Colorado Springs!

This property had its benefits and drawbacks-- Positives: * It is close to a school that has a playground and within walking distance of Old Colorado City. It is also very close to I-25 and grocery stores. * There is Wi-Fi that was easy to connect to. * There are tables and chairs enough for 12; which enabled us to host dinner for family who live in town. * The open layout of the dining/living room enabled us to all spend time together without feeling like we were tripping over each other. The separate reading nook was a nice place to get away from the group as well. They had a nice selection of books to peruse. * The home was clean and well maintained; it is exactly as presented in the photos. Negatives: * The dishwasher was broken. From the smell of it, I suspect it had been broken for a bit. There was a few inches of foul smelling water in the bottom. The landlord did offer to send someone over to look at it that week, which we declined. I was surprised this hadn't been noticed before we arrived, or if it was, we weren't made aware in advance. * There is a TV, technically; but it's not hooked up to anything. I think the fact that it is in the advertisement is misleading. There's not satellite, or an antenna, and certainly not cable. The binder of house info suggested we could hook up a laptop to it (which we hadn't known we needed to bring) or play something through their DVD player. * There is a rental tenant who lives in the basement. There weren't any major issues with them, but we could hear their music through the vents and smell their "herbs" when we came in each day. The laundry is also shared with that person. * Laundry is down a rickety, steep staircase, in the basement. * There were sheets for the two beds and the air mattresses; but not blankets for the air mattresses. When I emailed the landlord they confirmed there were only sheets. We ended up borrowing blankets from family in town. * One of the gates for the fenced in back yard didn't latch well. If I had brought a dog, I would not have let them into the back yard unsupervised. * Part way through the week, a plumbing service came by the house to inspect pipes. We ended up spending about 30 minutes running water and shutting it off at various locations in the house to help them. We had not been asked or told about this intrusion, and no comment was received back from the landlord when we informed them. I am unsure if I would stay here again.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Our rental is in Old Colorado City and was built over 100 years ago. It is a charming house that is mostly original upstairs and conveys the charm of its age. That also means that the steps to the basement are steep, though quite solid and that if there is a plumbing problem, it needs to be checked that it is not a clogged line that could potentially become major issue. We promptly address any and all concerns reported to us by our guests, but we are teachers, not boarders. We spend our summers in our home away from home and the rest of the year we at our permanent house and do not see the unit. We cannot address problems, such as the gate and the dishwasher, until they are brought to our attention. There is no cable. There is a television, DVD player and wi-fi. If you want to watch cable on your vacation, this is not the right spot for you, or at the very least you will need to bring a laptop and watch via the wi-fi, which is provided. The beds all have sheets and blankets. There were not blankets for the air mattresses, since we had never had to lodge more than 6 people at once in cold weather. That is being fixed before things turn cool again. Sorry about that! The downstairs tenant has been evicted and the lower unit will now be offered as a vacation property jointly with the upstairs or independently. We do not tolerate obnoxious guests or tenants. We are not perfect, but we are cute, cheap, pet friendly, family friendly and VERY convenient. We also gladly try to resolve any issues that arise, when they are brought to our attention. We hope that everyone finds their own perfect place to stay, and I am sorry that our house did not suit you. It suits us and we hope that you find your perfect place next time you travel. Good luck!

We celebrated a late Christmas with our adult children who live in COS, and we fell in love with this place. It is charming and well maintained. The views of the mountains from the living room and sitting room off the master bedroom are stunning. There is a nice TV, and we were a little taken aback because there was no cable/dish, but it ended up being perfect because we hooked it up for a few movies and spent time with each other instead of with the TV. The owner was very responsive for all of our questions. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! Hope you will have a chance to get back again in the future.

About the owner: We are both teachers living in Fort Worth, TX and expecting our first child. We found Colorado Springs when we attended Colorado College over several summers to get our Masters' Degrees and fell in love with the city! We bought this house in our favorite area, Old Colorado City, and have spent the last 3 summers enjoying, updating and decorating it!
Why the Owner Chose Colorado Springs:
We love the area. Walking to shops, concerts and parks is a great way to relax and slow down for a break. The unique touches in the house such as the vaulted ceilings, original push-button light switches, charming reading nook, open layout and just-the-right-size comfy-coziness!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house has retained its original charm and has the benefit of an eclectic and vibrant neighborhood. We love that you can walk to so many activities, stores and restaurants! It's all right there, including I-25 if you need to go exploring via car! We couldn't ask for a better vacation home and we hope you love it too!
