The vacation home was charming and comfortable. Beautiful scenery all around. The owners are very welcoming and went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed our walks on the beach and liked that we could walk down the beach to cafes and strolls through town!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had such a great time. The hosts are very accomodating and take pride in caring for their suite. This property appears even nicer in real life than the pictures. It was one of the cleanest suites I've stayed in at the Sunshine Coast. The inside renovations and decor was very meticulously done. Everything inside the suite was pretty new including the kitchen-ware, leather couches, towels and sheets. The beach was literally 6-8 feet away from the front door. We had the chance to canoe in the water with our dogs. The public dock was a short walk away as well. You can get to it walking along the beach. To top it off, the hot tub at night at the front yard of the house was great on a summer night. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who want a relaxing and fun time close to the beach and water.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The suite was great, very well kept, just a few feet off the beach with sun from the morning to sunset. Everything we needed was there and more. The suite was also in a great location and easy to get to everywhere we needed to go. It presented the special charm of being in a historic waterfront home that had been thoroughly renovated and was spotlessly maintained by our hosts Captain J and his wife Cindy. They also had kayaks that we were able to use to explore the waterfront from an offshore perspective. Gibsons is beautiful with many good places to eat, wildlife, and hiking trails. Reality exceeded our expectations! Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1949
About the owner: Captain J's is 97 year old and has been in the McKinnon family since 1949 when John McKinnon the first bought the house from Mr. and Mrs. Cave. The Caves built this house with wood from the old armoury on Bowen Island after the First world War in 1919. When Mrs. Cave became ill, they were forced to sell and that was when our grand dad purchased this house. When grand dad bought this place, him and Grama lived downstairs with two suites for rental upstairs. In 1957 John McKinnon died of heart disease and grama moved up to one of the suites upstairs and rented the bottom suite out to Vi Madsen who stayed here for 50 years. John McKinnon the second and his family came up on weekends and summers till he retired, then they split their time between here and Coquitlam. In October, 2006, John McKinnon the third, acquired the house from his Dad and started on a journey to renovate the old place and make it our home. We started off with tearing out all the flooring downstairs and digging down 5 ft to lay a foundation. From there we worked withthe help of friends and family for 2 full years. It has been a journey through time and family history as we discovered writings stuck in walls, old bottles, golf clubs and many hidden treasures along the way. This old house is a time capsule of the McKinnon family history with old doorframes marked with children's heights and ages to timeless memories of family get togethers and summer fun.
Why the Owner Chose Gibsons:
John has been up to this summer place all his life, and then of course brought his wife Cindy and their children. This was just where we came every summer, or weekend we could get away, so if was only natural to make it our home in the end.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You only need to wake up one morning and look out as the sunrises over the water and the mountains sparkle with snow too know you have come home. Sitting in the early morning with your coffee, where else would you want to be.
