Cave Hill Dodge Cabin features a massive stone fireplace and a spacious deck overlooking woods and a pond. Located on a 35 acre farm, out of sight of any other buildings, it is secluded, private and quiet.
Downstairs is a private bedroom with queen bed, living room with fireplace, dining room that seats 6 around a magnificent Ethan Allen maple table, bath with tub shower and fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs in the loft overlooking the fireplace are 4 twin beds.
We offer amenities comparable to a boutique hotel – crisply ironed sheets and pillow cases, handsome comforters on the beds, fluffy towels and natural soap. We do our own laundry, without the harsh chemicals and industrial finishing of a commercial laundry.
Your children will be intrigued to stay in a cabin surrounded by woods, and to sleep in the loft overlooking the fireplace. Your dog will enjoy romping and exploring the woods and fields.
Everything you need is at hand: flat screen TV, WiFi, fully equipped kitchen ready to cook in, flatware and china, wine glasses, Bunn instantaneous coffee maker.
Our stone fireplace burns real wood from the farm. There is an outdoor fire ring with log chairs over by the barn. We supply split firewood for both. We do not have a hot tub.
Out on the deck overlooking the pond and the woods is a gas grill and table and chairs for dining and lounging.
Take a stroll around the farm out to the log barn to enjoy the view of the Appalachian foothills, or up the woodland trial to the cave. Bring a flashlight to explore the cave. In the evening, start a fire in the fire pit and roast marshmallows, or lie on your back in the field and take in the Milky Way.
About Adams County: Adams County is one of the most beautiful scenic counties in Ohio. The Great Serpent Mound is the largest effigy mound in the country. The Amish community offers shops and beautiful well kept farms. The southern boundary is the Ohio River, with gorgeous views, fishing and boating.
Suggested activities: Visit the Great Serpent Mound and its visitor center. Check out the Wheat Ridge Amish community shops and well kept farms. Ride around the Quilt Barn Trail and see the beautiful rural countryside by car.
Go for a hike in one of the many nature preserves and natural areas in Adams County. Our favorites include Chaparral Prairie (a remnant prairie a mile away). Buzzards Roost Rock trail (a strenuous hike in the Nature Conservancy Edge of Appalachia Preserve) and Davis Memorial Nature Preserve (features a pristine stream, high rock cliffs and a geologic fault in the cliff face).
Enjoy birding on our farm or in the nature preserves.
Fish our pond (catch and release only), the ponds in Tranquility Natural Area 20 minutes away, Adams Lake State Park, Ohio Brush Creek or the Ohio River.
Have dinner at Murphin Ridge Inn or Moyer’s Winery. Murphin Ridge is an excellent restaurant in the old farm house near the Amish community. Moyer’s has fine food in a dining room overlooking the Ohio River.

Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I am a retired lawyer turned carpenter and innkeeper. I grew up in Cincinnati and have lived there all my life. As a young man I lived in the country outside of town, surrounded by woods and fields. After 30 years in an office, I have returned to my roots.
Why the Owner Chose Winchester: We bought 25 vacant acres in Winchester, Adams County, Ohio in 1991. In 2003 when I retired we bought this cabin on adjoining land as well as a half-finished house on the other side of the original farm. I finished the one a couple of years ago. See VRBO #413188. I have just completed remodeling this cabin, which was built by one of my law partners in the 1970's Both were labors of love.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: All the comforts of home in a rustic cabin with oak floors and a big stone fireplace. Modern kitchen and bath, electric heat and air conditioning. Very private location. The deck overlooking the pond is delightful. If you have a large group, some could stay here and more in our large lodge, VRBO 413188, about a 1/4 mile up the hill either on the farm gravel road or up the path through the woods past the cave.
