- Lake San Marcos is a private, unincorporated neighborhood surrounded by the city of San Marcos in North San Diego County. This peaceful neighborhood provides privacy from crowds and traffic. We are part of a pristine setting surrounded by nature, an excellent year round climate and a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere. There is an 81 acre lake where you can boat and fish (no fishing license required). Also in the neighborhood are tennis courts, 2 pools, paddle ball, billard room, and an 18 hole Championship Golf Course and 18 hole Executive Golf Course. From our home it is 10 minutes to the beaches; Legoland is 8 minutes, 35 minutes to Sea World and San Diego Zoo, Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm 60 minutes. The world famous Wild animal park 35 minutes. We also have professional baseball and football teams which you can attend the games. Within five mile radius of the house there are over 200 restaurants to choose from. Also within a 30 mile radius several 10 Casinos. After a day of excitement, our home is a wonderful place to relax. We back to a private park off our patio, called Mall II. There is a beautiful private pool, Oriental gardens and fabulous view of the lake and mountains. 24 hour Security Patrol is provided. The home is fully furnished. Two bedrooms with one queen bed in master suite and a pullout queen in 2nd bedroom/den, 2 full baths. A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. A small organ in in the second bedroom for those who play. A TV with DVD in the living room and a TV in the master, both equipped with cable. New furnace and central air, new roof, and new washer and dryer for your convenience. Two of us plus our small dog had a wonderful summer in this home. The pictures provided give you an excellent picture of the home and it lakeview. The facility was very comfortable and clean. Any questions that arose were addressed immediately by the property manager, including bringing us a key at 9 PM on a weekend when we locked ourselves out. We used the pool often and enjoyed the Friday afternoon happy hours with the residents. Bob, the HOA manager, made sure that we were included in the Mall functions including a Bocce ball tournament the day before we left. Each of the five groups of guests who stayed with us for short periods enjoyed their stay and commented on the comfort of the accommodations. We played golf at six local courses which were both challenging and reasonably priced. Our grandsons took us to the Wild Animal Park which was great fun for all. My wife and friends helped the economy at the Escondido Mall and we supported local restaurants including our favorites for breakfast, Mama Kats, and barbecue, Phils. We plan to be back.

We found accommodations clean and a great size for four adults and a medium size dog. In addition to the supplies we would have expected there were also other items that were well stocked. It was nice to have easy access to the internet, working electronics and a place with ample room to invite family to dinner and barbecue. Any questions and concerns were addressed immediately by either the owner Jim or agent Elaine. We spent a lot of time on the patio in the mornings and the pool was very clean and inviting, in addition to nice to look at as were all of the grounds. We stayed for a month and enjoyed the Lake San Marcos area very much. We would definitely consider staying again in the future.

My Mother who is 94 and I rented the condo because it was 5 minutes from my sister's home in San Marcos. I thought the pictures may have enhanced the area and the home but to my surprise it was more lovely than I expected. My sister had looked at it prior to my renting and said it was very clean and thought I would enjoy it very much. We did indeed enjoy every minute we were there. The condo was very spacious, clean, well decorated, and all the amenities we could want or need. The furnace and air conditioner, washer/ dryer, dishwasher were all new. The patio was lovely with glass top table, chairs, umbrella. There were roses in full bloom and my Mom was in seventh heaven with roses on the table every day. There were many walnut antiques, comfortable beds, nice linens, lovely art, new TV, good selection of music with a great stereo system. I found it very easy to get to my sister's home, rent a car, shop where I was interested in shopping for items I needed. It was very quiet, secure area with security guards visible during the day as well as maintenance men trimming, mowing, and grooming lovely shrubs. The owner was very accommodating and delightful to visit with as well as his lovely wife. The manager was lovely to work with and answered all our questions and was attentive to any concerns we had. They helped us find a place of worship on Sundays that was close and very lovely place to worship. I plan on making this a yearly retreat from the Midwest winters and a chance to be with family and yet have my own space. We love to eat out once a day and there were many good convenient restaurants in the area. We were able to have my nephews over to swim in the heated private pool or the association pool which ever we chose. When we were out on the patio people stopped or waved and said hello! I would recommend this condo to any one who likes a quiet, reasonably priced, clean homey environment away from home in lovely California!! We loved every minute we were here and wished we could have stayed longer.

We rented for Feb and Mar but left early. The owner Jim and representative Elaine were friendly and tended to our calls right away it is just unfortunate there were so many items missing, broken or inadequate. From previous experiences, this house was not ready to be rented out as a COMPLETE vacation rental. There was no cleaning provided after the first month as stated on the description. We didn't find any "friendly easy-to-meet" people. We were told the pool outside the door wasn't heated summer or winter so was not used. There just were no people around to meet up with. The amenities are more for permanent residents and are across the lake. There is wall-to-wall carpet throughout even in the ensuite toilet (very unsanitary) which would make it not wheelchair friendly. There are lots of things to see and do in the surrounding area if you don't mind the rush on 4 to 6 lane freeways. Wasn't very relaxing for us. We were also concerned about getting our deposit back which was late with their excuse they couldn't read our address. It was perfectly clear on the rental agreement. Two emails were sent to inquire with no replies. We are sorry for this review, we simply did not have a positive experience. Good luck to new renters. Maybe summer months will be better..

Manager response: Thank you Kathy for your review. Jim and I were supprised that you were so unhappy. We felt we met all of you concerns immediately. You will remember, before you arrived you called and said you had left your insulin in a Salt Lake City, Utah hotel and were panicking because you needed it right away. You asked us to help you so we scrambled to find you a doctor appointment (on a Friday afternoon) so you could get a prescription so you would be okay. We had the appointment lined up, but when you arrived you said you did not need it after all. That the hotel was going to overnight your medication. To our supprise there was no urgency as you had indicated when you called us to help you. Throughout your entire stay, there were a few items that we did not have. The owner has not lived in the property for 5 years and I have never lived there. We did not realize that we were missing a potato peeler and a large bowl. I know there was a leak in the skylight, which we had fixed immediately and the broken yard sprinklers also fixed post haste. We can't have control over things like that. As for the cleaning crew, I told you on a couple of occasions to let me know when it would be convenient for you to have a cleaning crew in. You did not contact me, therefore I thought you did not want anyone in the home. I do not just schedule anyone to enter the home without the tenants premission. As for the carpet in the bathroom, it was professionally cleaned prior to your visit. Also, if it had been soiled, we would have removed it. We can't be responsible if you are unable to make friends. I have been selling real estate in Lake San Marcos for 25 years and everyone of my clients rave about how easy it is to make friends in this neighborhood. I also cannot help the fact that the traffic is so busy on the freeways. Interstate 15 does have a wonderful car pool lane and you can get to San Diego city much easier on that freeway. But, if you are not used to lots of people and lots of cars, I can understand how it be concerning. There is plenty to do here in North County San Diego not far from the home. We played phone tag concerning the deposit check return. We were unable to read your street name and did not want a check going to Canada with the wrong address. Once again, we appologize for the fact you left unhappy. I hope your next trip to California is a happy experience.
