Location: Ventana Canyon, Tucson, Tucson & Southern Arizona, Arizona, USA (Catalina Foothills, 30 mins from Airport, Near Sabino Canyon)
Accommodations: house, 1 Bedroom + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4)
Keywords: Patio Home
In a quiet, unassuming, neighborhood in the Santa Catalina Foothills lies a small jewel of a home. One of the Southwest's leading interior designers created this as her own residence and lived here for more than a decade. The home has been featured on the Tucson "Opera Dames" home tour and in the Tucson Lifestyle Magazine. Recently totally refurbished, this beautiful property is now available for vacation rental.
Though only 1600 square feet, the clever design makes the house seem larger. Using the concept of a New York loft apartment as the inspiration, the master bedroom is separated from the living areas by a travertine and mirror, dual-sided, fireplace. To one side of the master bedroom area is a bathroom featuring a large, walk-in shower. To the other side is a small sitting alcove with floor to ceiling views into a natural desert orroyo. Here, it is not unusual to see members of the desert wild community - gambel quail, cardinals, javelina, and bob-cats - as one sips morning coffee. Adjacent, is an enormous walk-in closet.
A well designed compact kitchen features black granite counters, European, whisper-quiet dishwasher and integrated smooth top oven. The great room contains a formal sitting area features two comfortable down-filled couches in front of the fire place, while on the opposite wall a 42 inch projection TV is set up with satellite, VCR, DVD, CD, and am/fm radio. Adjacent to the front entry way is a dining area and, beyond this, a smaller seating area for relaxing with a drink and a book. An additional bedroom with full-size bed suitable for overnight guests also contains a desk, fax machine, and space for a lap top for those vacationers who just cannot leave work behind. A second full bath is accessed both from this room and the living areas.
A private outdoor courtyard can be reached from both the living and guest rooms. Again, clever design turns a small area into a relaxing outdoor retreat; a soothing fountain runs down rocks, a metal sculpture echoes the many armed saguaro cactus on the adjacent hills and the area is bathed in sunlight much of the day.
Despite the peace and serenity of the location, within five minutes walk is a comprehensive shopping center with supermarket, drug store, two speciality bakeries, three dry cleaners, and eight restaurants! Within a five mile radius lie some of the southwest’s most prestigious resorts each with their signature five star restaurants; Loew’s Ventana Canyon is a mile away to the north, the Westin La Paloma Resort is less than four miles away to the west. For the nature lover, the famous Sabino Canyon recreation area is just a mile away to the east. Here, trails into the Catalina State Park range from easy to challenging. For the golfer, the famous Trent designed Ventana Country Club 36 hole course is literally just up the road.

We spent a week in this spotless house and it wasn't long enough. Quiet, private, more fully equipped than any VRBO we've ever had...and we've had many in the US and Europe. My wife, a gourmet cook, was raving about the unexpected array of spices she found, and the equipped kitchen. The indescribable part is the "romance" of the layout...it's a honeymoon suite at the Hyatt Regency in effect. We were on our 40th anniversary tour and we just loved it here. We're also hikers and this location is very convenient to several good canyon trailheads, both day hikes and overnight in length. A+

We recently completed our second five-week stay at Chez Rochelle and have already signed up for a similar period next year. What higher recommendation is there? This unique space was created by a talented interior designer and has every amenity a vacationer could desire. On a practical level, the kitchen has everything at hand to create a meal without a lot of advance planning. No last-minute search here for a lemon zester or a missing spice! The owners, who live next door, are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The unit is located in the Catalina foothills, just a short distance from beautiful Sabino Canyon, where we were able to hike many days each week. For a combination of location, comfort, and convenience, Chez Rochelle is a winner!

I researched every VRBO property in the Tucson area on the internet before settling on this one. It couldn't have been any more perfect! It's very private, yet within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and Ventana Canyon Resort. It's in a lovely, charming little neighborhood where you can meet as many friends as you like or just disappear and enjoy the solitude. The photos on the website barely do it justice. Unlike some places I've rented based on the visuals that didn't quite live up to what I expected, this one is almost understated on the website. It's sophisticated, comfortable, and sexy if you're bringing a Significant Other. If the candles and the lighting and the soft music and the fountains and the gourmet dinner you can cook here don't do the trick, then you've got other problems. You won't be disappointed. Most importantly, it's nice to deal with owners who are honest, up front and equally charming as well. And that is exactly what you are going to get at this incredible place in the beautiful foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. I would suggest you reserve it before I snap it up again.

We had a wonderful time in your home. We enjoyed our morning coffee in the bedroom sitting area watching the sunrise, the desert animals and birds. The well stocked kitchen was such a pleasure and we loved eating on the patio. Thank you Suzie and Miles for this great get a way home. We would highly recommend this home.

We don't want to leave! What a wonderful home to come to after a day of hiking or exploring. What a wonderful place to hang out in on the days we needed to rest. You gave us great advice on where to shop, where to eat. The kitchen was nicely appointed and perfect for us to cook in. We really don't want to leave.

Our stay has been truly wonderful. The house is an absolute gem and we couldn't have been more comfortable. Thanks for making everything so nice...Hope to come back some day TJ I second that! I was as comfortable here as I am in my own home. And, not having to run to the store for the morning necessities on Day 1? Very thoughtful! A.M.
