La Mision house description
The Super Bowl is over. Congratulations Seattle. Easter is coming up. If you would like an Easter Egg Hunt for your kids, just ask in your request. (see Review below, (WONDERFUL VACATION - Stephanie) Come enjoy the comforts of your own home, sprinkled with a Baja's Charm. Plan a Spring trip on our fabulous beach. The Ocean setting of the house sports a surf view for three quarters of a mile to the south end of the beach. We are exactly in the middle. There is an additional 3/4 of a mile of beach to the North that offers even more privacy.
Our San Diego architect took maximum advantage of the ocean setting, lining both upstairs and downstairs with 4X8 foot panes of glass. As a result, the Sunsets are both picturesque as well as a beautiful way to conclude your day. Winter and Spring are the best!
The house sleeps can sleep up to 10, but is ideal for 6 adults and two children. In the upstairs bedrooms, we have two comfortable, recently upgraded Kings. The downstairs, on the other hand, has a double, a double futon couch and a double fold-out sofa bed. The futon and sofa bed are ideal for the kids.
La Mission is a small, gated, patrolled beach community with good restaurants close by. It is dotted with small markets, taco stands, Red Cross and a Police Station.
As you step off the patio into the soft sand, look both ways. There is a mile and a half of enjoyment in front of you. We prefer the walk to the North. It is like being on your own private island.
During the NFL football season, we offer the Sunday NFL ticket package. This allows you to watch all 8 games, while just pushing the remote to have the audio for each game. Of course, you can always, just turn to the RED Zone channel' and catch every score from every game. The other TV can be tuned to a separate NFL game; however, if the wife's prefer they can have their own separate channels. (after football, of course)
If you are a volleyball enthusiast, like I was, there is a court just to the right on the beach. Nets are found under the stairs. Just bring your ball!
On the other hand, if you are a surfer, we have a goofy footed break right out front. World renowned K-38 is just North of us while Salasipuedes and San Miguel are to the South.

The Best of Baja!
The Best of Baja!
4th of July in Mexico is really a trip. Even though it is not a holiday in Mexico, when we went out to dinner, every beach we passed had the locals shooting fireworks out over the ocean. It was a beautiful site. They are legal there, but definitely not controlled. In Texas, we have a lot of sand, but we sure don’t have those nice sunsets over the Ocean to go with it. Our friends met us at the San Diego airport and we all headed south. This was only our third time in Mexico. It was our first in Baja. With all the bad newspaper articles in our area, I was a bit nervous. But, when we entered the gate to the community and the guard asked us for all this information, I started feeling better. Our friends assured us that they had been here many times without any problems. We played a round of golf on the Ocean course at Bajamar. It was really difficult. I went out with a dozen golf balls, but I came back with 10 different ones. People don’t seem to look for their lost balls in Mexico. Your house was delightful. I ran the beach every morning. I took a lot of pictures in the Estuary. I also took a number of shots of the sunsets with the waves crashing on the rocks at the south end. I’ll send you some. The two part hieroglyphic Indian painting was amazing; however, the picture of last remaining Adobe wall of your old Mission was not that exciting. Our friends were right. You have a great house –Right on the Sand. We had an enjoyable adventure. Now that we have more confidence, we will do it again in the fall! Thanks. Will and Terry

Owner response: Will and Terry, I am glad your first trip to Baja was enjoyable and safe. Yes, the Ocean course is quite difficult. Now that you have the confidence, we hope to see you again soon. Dick and Aracely
We both thank you and Aracely for the hospitality! We greatly appreciated the words of wisdom on the area. As far as the house goes , you keep it very clean and usable. We can't think of anything that needs attention. The place really grew on us and we enjoyed our stay. We look forward to bringing the kids down and staying there in the near future.

I wanted to take a minute to say we had a great Easter vacation. Our younger kids really appreciated the Easter egg hunt when they arrived. They could not figure out which eggs had the pesos, the pennies, or the polished stones. That was very thoughtful. We were able to make some nice contacts at the Orphanage in the valley. Our friends had told us that they had also volunteered on their last trip. We had fun helping out. We loved the new ping pong/ pool table. We spent quite a few evenings with some very competitive games. We boogie boarded with our friends that stayed up the beach. Their kids are about the same age. With all the excitement, the ocean did not seem that cold for March. Your setting right on the beach is ideal for a family vacation. I hope we can make it back over the summer. It was wonderful!! Thanks! Stephanie

As I am sitting on my porch watching the sunrise it reminded me of the great sunsets when we visited your place in La Mision. In Florida, we get some great sunrises, but not sunsets. Looking down the waves from your house really enhances the experience. We were fortunate to get a tee time to play the ocean course at Baja Mar. It was quite a challenge. Maybe it was the libations on the 9th hole that did us in. We arrived back at the house in time to watch a number of players play the 16th hole at Scottsdale. Sunday we hosted a brunch for some of our old friends from Rosarito. They loved the shrimp kabobs on the Barbie. We finally settled down to watch the Super Bowl. Five East Coast Raven fans bantering three SF. fans. It was a great game for a change. We want to visit that wine country. We will be back for a longer stay next time. GO RAVENS! Thanks, Jim

Hello Dick & Aracely: We had a terrific time at your beautiful home. As described it is RIGHT ON the beautiful white sand beach. Thanks for the list of suggestions for the area with Spanish translations. We went to your recommendation of the fish market in Ensenada and filled up on the $1 smoked marlin tacos. We also shopped for souvenirs in Ensenada and had a great day. One day, David and Lyle played golf at Baja Mar, then came home to watch the Golf Channel. We loved having such good TV programming while in Mexico. We really enjoyed the brunch at the La Fonda Restaurant at La Mision. Fantastic! We also took your suggestion and visited the Guadalupe Valley and did some excellent wine tasting on the "Ruta de Vinos". One day we all walked to the South end of the beach where we found Cocos and Pico de Gallos. We girls took a horseback ride back to the North end of the beach. They were very nice and brought us back to the house. Now that we have found you, we plan on returning during football season to watch the games on TV and enjoy your house at La Mision. Thanks again, Maryann and Lyle

Charming rustic home right on the sand!
Charming rustic home right on the sand!
This amazing house couldn't be in a better location . . . Offering privacy in a small gated beachfront community close to La Fonda, the wineries, and Ensenada. The views from inside the house are incredible, and the back deck sits inches from the sand. The house was clean, and, Dick, the owner, even had someone come in before our arrival to hook up DirecTV so we could catch the Thanksgiving weekend games. Better still, Dick gave us a write up on the area packed with information and reviews about local stores, wineries, resturants, and a local cheese factory. We've been coming to Baja for years, but we learned much more from his suggestions then we had discovered ourselves on previous trips. I would highly recommend this home. I know we'll be back! Thank you Dick, for making your home available to us, and for all of your assistance. Your kindness really made our trip!

About the owner: This has been our weekend home away from home for some time now. Living in San Diego, it is just a 45 minute drive down the toll road to the house. Watching the dolphins feed just before a magnificent sunset, with you favorite beverage in hand, you forget about work week that you just finished. By listening to the crashing waves as they lull you to sleep, you return to the States invigorated, refreshed and ready for a new week..
Why the Owner Chose La Mision:
If you are looking for lots of people, loud music, and younger bars - Rosarito (20 minutes North) will be more suited to your taste. Ensenada (25 minutes south), on the other hand, offers a large, crowded city atmosphere with a fabulous fish market, reasonable fish tacos and lots of shopping. Please, visit both nearby cities and see why we chose our quaint little spot on the beach in between them. We have a number of restaurants within a mile. La Fonda, The Light House, Cieto Lindo, Maganas, and the La Mision Hotel Also, if you prefer a pleasant wine and cheese tasting tour, Guadalupe Valley is a scenic 25 mile drive through the hills to the south. For more intimate details of the various tastings, check with Dick.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
As mentioned above, if you like football or soccer, you don't have to miss any of your NFL games. The family can enjoy the beach while you keep track of your favorite team. You can watch two or eight games at the same time. To this day our resident Historian, Charlie Wild, 86 years young, tells us about the days before the toll road, electricity and the telephone. He says, 'Those were the good 'ol days'. Of course, we have to imagine how we could have lived without Direct TV, the wireless internet, Gas BBQs, and our Satellite dish.
