(I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were an option) We very pleased with this cabin. It was very clean, well furnished, and nicely decorated, and was a super value at a late summer rate. It is on a nice sized property, centrally located for seeing the sites of the Black Hills. The interior size was ideal for our family of four with two small children, and we loved the open layout in the kitchen/dining/living area. The location adjacent to the Mickelson Trail was fantastic for early morning runs. (Once I figured out how to find the trail, somewhat difficult to spot on the hill behind the cabin.) What are the downsides? The main downside is the road noise from the highway, at least when the windows are opened (which we wanted to do to keep the air flowing on warm summer days). The cabin is located maybe 50 linear yards from US16/385, though also about 50 feet below the grade level of the highway. Where the highway passes the cabin, the speed limit is 60 or 65, and the pavement is grooved, so traffic is quite loud. On more minor notes, a set of twin beds or bunks would have been more useful to us in the second bedroom (it has a double). Also, the cabin can feel a bit isolated at night (which some would view as a plus). It is the “end unit” at the beginning of a spur road off the highway that seemed to contain a dozen or so homes, though widely spaced, about halfway between Hill City and Custer. In summary, however, we would certainly consider staying there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with young children.
