Marshall studio description
Elephant Cottage is a beautiful artfully designed water-front studio cottage surrounded by gardens & nature's bountiful beauty and variety. The view from this retreat is of the glistening water of Tomales Bay to the sandy beaches and tree adorned hills of spectacular Point Reyes National Park.
Be nourished by the beauty, sea life, and ever-changing water and skies of pristine Tomales Bay. “Elephant Cottage” is built at this beautiful bay with a water-view 8’ floor-to-ceiling window & sliding glass door opposite a comfy loveseat. Cozily enjoy wind and waves traversing the bay. Watch dancing sunlight sparkle on the water. Your private patio under the apple tree is complete with table, chairs and propane bbq. Free wireless in the studio and patio.
When you walk through the gate, you are greeted by cheerful flowers, picturesque trees, and stone sculptures that welcome you to the small private patio. At the patio a gate opens to the 14' deep deck and glistening water that flows underneath and to the opposite shore of Tomales Bay. Charming, peaceful and magical as morning lifts revealing an unforgettable view of the National Park... as the tide rhythmically flows in and out offering music of lapping the shore and pilings… as the sea birds call out and clouds pass over to an ever-changing vista of sky and water.
Enter the artfully designed, light-filled studio that opens to the patio and the deck and find you are still surrounded by natural beauty. An 8' sliding glass door looks out to deck and water, large windows and yet another glass-paned door frame lovely views of the trees and gardens surrounding everywhere you look. The complete kitchen offers a delightful view of gardens through the porthole window.
The bathroom offers an experience of luxuriating in art and beauty… exquisite tile work, a charming sink with copper bowl set atop a beautiful redwood burl base, and an 8 jet Jacuzzi tub with a large window looking out at the private garden and cliff top with sky beyond. It's a WOW!
The studio is furnished with a comfortable queen Murphy bed and love-seat sofa-both look out on the water-cafe table & chairs, a writing desk, profusion of enticing books for a quiet, inspiring or scintillating read. Sit on the deck, climb down to the rocky beach at low tide (access is shared), or enjoy gazing at the water in comfort in all kinds of weather from inside the studio or out. If you gaze long enough, you'll notice a seal or otter swimming by. You may see kayaks from the near-by concession paddling across to the beaches on the far shore or an occasional Park or oyster boat pass by. At various times of the year the Bay teems with sea birds, schools of herring, salmon, dolphin and feasting seals. If you’re lucky sea otters may invite themselves onto the deck.
Elephant Studio is an incredible and inspiring setting for the thinker, writer or painter part of us all. This is the perfect setting for when you long to slow down, open yourself and be nourished and restored in a quiet, serene place overflowing with nature's magic. It’s ideal for a secluded retreat, for just getting away from the fast pace and noise of 21st century life. Elephant Studio is a place to ponder what's really important, or for a couple wanting to enjoy and connect with each other in a quiet, nourishing and romantic space.
Should you want to pull yourself away and enjoy a walk, you can wander the old fashioned Marshall Boat Works, enjoy delicious sandwiches and decadently irresistible barbecued oysters at the Marshall Store overlooking the water, chow down at Tony's Seafood or walk the other way to the lively and delicious happening at the Hog Island Oyster Company.
If you can stand leaving even longer, there are great beaches and hiking trails in Point Reyes National Park. You might enjoy a walk on its endless miles of white sand beaches or gazing upon the abundant wildlife: the herd of albino deer, Thule elk, nesting American Bald Eagles, unbelievable variety of plants and ancient redwoods, or, visit the award winning Visitor Center and carefully restored Native American Village, Kule Loklo.
Take a short drive (30 minutes) and you can walk Dillon Beach and buy fresh crab from the boats of Bodega Bay. Just 15 minutes in the other direction is Point Reyes Station, then Inverness and Olema all of which offer a variety of fine restaurants and shops to explore, and great entertainment as well. A twenty minute drive North on Highway 1 brings you to Freestone and the Osmosis Spa, offering enzyme baths in a Japanese garden setting. Out-of-this world bakeries can be found in Point Reyes Station, Tomales and Freestone.
Please see our FlipKey/TripAdvisor listing for “Raspberry House” if you require more room than Elephant Studio offers. If you rent both units the studio price is reduced to $150.00 per night.
Rental fee is for 2 people. An additional $25 per person per night is charged for each additional occupant.

My parents were in from out of town and I wanted to show them the best of Marin. We stayed at the Elephant Cottage and it was just perfect. Super clean and nice, beautiful view of Tomales Bay and easy to find right off Hwy 1.

Very clean, private, and super cute. Rob was very helpful. We found Pt. Reyes a bit remote for our taste, but we did have a good time and we're happy that we went. The scenery is beautiful and we had fabulous food at Osteria Stellini in Pt. Reyes Station.

Perfect For Family Vacation
Perfect For Family Vacation
My husband and I spent a romantic weekend alone at the house last Feb. We loved it so much; we rented both units in June-Raspberry House and Elephant Studio-for our whole family. This was a perfect set-up; my parents in the house with the three kids (9, 11, 13. We took the studio for what seemed like a second honeymoon - the units are separate - each w/private garden and deck. There was so much to see and do the kids left their electronics in the suitcases! They spent a lot of time on the deck, built right over the water watching dolphins, seals, exotic birds and were absolutely thrilled seeing otters play right there! At nighttime, my Mom baked cookies one night, popcorn the next, Dad lit a fire and told “campfire stories”. The kids forgot about their usual evening routine—TV/video games—in favor of the cozy fire and Grandpa’s stories. The husband and I took it all in cuddled on the couch munching on Mom’s goodies. We booked a tour with Rob. He first sat down with all of us to find out what our interests are and instantly planned the tour just for us. All three kids are still drawing pictures of the places and things he showed us. Even my husband, a big city attorney who thinks casual means slacks, a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled-up, etc, was fascinated by where we were taken and what we saw in and around the National Park. We were so mesmerized we extended our tour time with Rob. We never would have seen a fraction of what he showed us on our own. Talk about abundant wildlife and incredible scenery – OMG! The local bakeries and restaurants Rob suggested were unbelievably good. Not just good for a rural area, but compared with the best where we live. We couldn’t have asked for better family vacation memories no matter where in the World we went. We’ve already made our reservation for next year and expect to make this an annual family vacation destination.

We had a great time at the studio. Fun to see all the little crabs up on the dock. :) Right on the water. We enjoyed our tour of the area with Rob despite the rain. We visited redwood forrests and egret nesting places we never would have discovered on our own. Loved our dinner at Nick's Cove. Great food and service.

I'm Coming Back and Renting the Studio Next
My family and I had a wonderful experience at Raspberry House. It was everything we had hoped for- the way the deck sits on top of Tomales Bay allowed for some wonderful fog photography and it was soothing to hear and watch the bay's tides rise and fall. The house's semi- private sun room pull out sofa plus the solo bedroom perfectly accommodated a group of three adults (my visiting mother, brother and myself). The attached but private Elephant Studio was equally adorable- perfect for a couple's weekend retreat. The main house's hot tub, living-room's wood burning stove and the beautiful lush gardens were all great pluses. The location puts you a stones throw from Point Reyes Station, Point Reyes National Seashore, Cowgirl Creamery, Tomales & Hog Island Oysters, plus Coastal Sonoma wine country and MANY MANY more wonderful things that West Marin has to offer. Whales, migratory birds the list goes on and on. We were able to snag Rob, who works for Raspberry House to give us a reasonably priced and thoroughly enjoyable "insiders" wildlife/ecology tour of the area and great tips on his favorite whale watching beaches, opportunities for fog and bay photography, bakeries and good eats. Rob was funny, energetic and knowledgeable. This tour was a major highlight for myself and my visiting family. I'd book this place again in a heart beat- in fact I'm already looking to stay at the studio next month. It's worth mentioning everything was clean, neat, lots of linens and blankets, as well as a really reliable wireless signal for all your technology needs.

Year Purchased: 1989
About: I bought Raspberry House when my youngest son went off to college and I needed an inspiring place from which to write my dissertation. It has been that (as you can see on volumes of books on relationship) and more - a spiritual retreat, a healing sanctuary, a place to discover and be nourished by the endless wonders of nature, on the water in my kayak or hiking the trails of the national seashore. Inside and out, I was passionate about creating beauty. Each year I transformed a small area in the old railroad bed yard into lush greenery and flowers. Sculptures from my travels or early morning foraging in my kayak were added next. And recently the The story of why I felt such passion to do this is told in the next section. I have always commuted a few days a week to the South Bay to support myself and recently retired from a fulfilling career as an organization consultant, mostly in Silicon Valley and around the world where high tech companies sent me. After years of being a therapist, I transferred to assisting people to wake up and live the lives they really want to live using the tools of the powerful Avatar Course.
