Culebra house description
Waterfront - Picture perfect Caribbean views and a steady, cooling breeze, located on a 5 acre property, 4 miles from town and 2 miles from Zoni Beach. This property includes two houses, Casa la Pela and Casa Viento Alisio, 60 yards apart, which can be rented separately or together, thus a perfect choice for two families vacationing together. Each house features a large (~700 sq ft) veranda overlooking Almodovar and Manglar Bays (aka Pela Bay), with panoramic views to Culebrita, Sail Rock and St Thomas to the east. Each house has 2 full baths and a modern, well equipped kitchen in an open configuration with the dining and living room areas. Casa la Pela has 4 bedrooms (2 with kings, 2 with twins). Casa Viento Alisio has 2 bedrooms (1 king and 1 king/twins) and an office with a futon couch.
The veranda is a lovely spot for dining, bird watching, reading and just relaxing. The modern kitchen provides a full set of appliances for easy cooking, or you can barbecue on the patio.
From the house, 70 feet above the ocean, an easy 80 yard trail leads down to the protected Pela Bay, where you can swim and snorkel or take the kayaks to explore the small nearby islands and many inlets. For the sport fishermen, Pela Bay also includes expansive flats for bone fishing, which you can access by kayak or on foot, and there is tarpon fishing in nearby Manglar Bay. For your comfort and enjoyment each house also includes ceiling fans in each room, beach chairs, kayaks (2 singles, 1 double), lifejackets, high speed wi-fi, videos, CD’s, local TV, and books.

- Culebra is a quiet, relatively undeveloped island with all the aquatic activities and a good but limited selection of restaurants and grocery stores. Culebra has the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean: Playas Zoni, Flamenco, Tamarindo are accessed by paved roads; other beaches, such as Carlos Rosario and Brava are accessible only on foot or by water and as expected are still present their natural, untouched beauty....moreless

This was one of those cases where the product was better than we expected. We were in a small house, but with the expansive veranda overlooking the bay, we did much of our living outdoors. The owner lived in another house 50 yards away on the same property and was very helpful. We used the kayaks a lot to explore the nearby bays. We rented a vehicle so that we could see the other parts of the island, most notably the outstanding Flamenco and Zoni beaches.

We had a very relaxed and comfortable stay. The property is exactly as described -- wonderful views, a steady breeze, and good swimming from the shore. My children were delighted.

This property was very comfortable and well equipped. The view and general ambiance are spectacular. We fished from the kayaks. We saw the entire island: hiked the hills, and of course snorkeled and swam.

About: When we bought this property, it had one house, Casa la Pela. After spending a month in this one house with our daughter, her husband, their 3 children and babysitter, we decided to build a second house on the property. Both houses are the same size and both have a large veranda with spectacular views of the bay and the Caribbean, but they differ in detail. Whereas Casa la Pela is designed to house a whole family (2 kings, 4 twins), our second house, Casa Viento Alisio, is designed for one or two couples, with fewer and larger rooms. Both houses are available for rent. The calendar shows availability for Casa La Pela. Information for Casa Viento Alisio is available on request.
We chose this property because of its hillside siting above the water, its exposure to the steady breeze of the Trade Winds, and the extraordinary views that extend close-up from Pela Bay to St Thomas in the distance. We swim from our shore every day. With the kayaks we venture farther, searching out the turtles, rays and birds.
