Information for guest about Douglas lake
Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers. The dam that controls the reservoir was built in 1942, stretches 202 feet high and 1,705 feet across the French Broad River. Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 44 feet from summer to winter. Although most of the shoreline along the 43 mile-long lake is private. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, a boat ramp and a swimming beach.
Birdwatching: From late July to early October, birdwatchers will witness the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas Lake. The birds rest and feed on the muddy shoreline and in areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to winter flood control levels.
Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you'll find there's good stock year-round.
Trails: If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area (trail map) is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake's tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain

This was a nice cabin. It has all the amenities you could ask for and more in a home away from home. Everything was clean and in excellent condition. We really enjoyed the large wrap around deck, nice location. The rental agent was extremely helpful and attentive as well. I would definitely rent here again the next time we visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the review regarding your stay on 03/01/2013, I am glad that you were pleased

I stayed in the cabin and had a good time. The pictures on website is just what the cabin looks like. What I loved the most was not having to leave the cabin at all. the fireplace was great and enjoyed sitting by the fire, my only complaint is that we were given 4 logs and when you have a fire the whole time your in the cabin then you need more logs, The cabin was very clean and that means everything to me, When I reserved the cabin Susan was very nice and answered all of my questions and even called me to make sure we arrived ok. I will be back and looking forward to staying in the summer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for the review I am thrilled that you loved the fireplace, I have to say there is something about a roaring fire that relaxes me as well, I am sorry that you thought we supplied more firewood but we do advertise that only first night fire logs are supplied by the owner. I am so glad that you are coming back this summer to stay again. Thank you!

What started out as a bad experience ended up great. We actually rented another cabin and arrived there and had to leave because we were so upset at the first cabin we had rented. I called susan at 11pm friday night asking if we could rent the treetops cabin at the last minute, she did everything right over the phone and because she could not email us the directions she stayed on the phone with us until we arrived at the cabin and she made sure we were happy everything inside the cabin. I am so glad we found this cabin and had the chance to stay, it is very nice inside and CLEAN! and fresh linens on the beds. The kitchen had everything we needed and we loved the clean hot tub! The TV in the living room was huge! We enjoyed listening to the CD's that they provide for guests like us. The cabin is located in an excellent location and we can not wait to come back in the summer and have a great time on the lake. I just want to thank you for taking the time out of your night and taking care of us. God Bless you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and found everything to your liking, we would love to have you back!

I can't begin to tell you how absolutely wonderful this little piece of heaven is. The house hugs you as you walk through the door and you have a hard time having to leave it behind. You'll find that you'll love sitting out on deck and eating all of your meals and taking in the fresh air. The home is equally beautiful inside. It is neat as a pin and has those special touches that anyone would truly enjoy. The rental process is very easy and friendly, and the owners are truly concerned with your enjoyment of their home. I guess everyone can tell that YES, I would absolutely recommend this home for your rental, and I am sure my family will want to come back again next year. The location is great since you are not far from the activities in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, but once you have had your fun in these areas you can retreat back to the quietness of your rental.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family enjoyed our stay at Treetops cabin. The cabin has an ideal location. It's removed from the busy parkway yet close enough that all the activities we did were within 15-20 minutes. The cabin was very clean, cozy and quiet. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen adequately supplied for simple cooking. The washer and dryer were very nice and useful. We felt secluded even though there were other cabins nearby. We couldn't see or hear anyone around us. We like to make a trip to the Smoky Mountains every year. This was a special treat and was worth every penny. Our family would choose this cabin again. The pictures online were accurate and the owners were very nice to work with. I would recommend this property to my friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much for the review, I agree with you on the location of the cabin, it is in a great location. I am glad that you liked the cabin and we do look forward to having you to come back and see us.
