I had a group of girlfriends come into town & found this spot on a busy Austin weekend. With a race in town along with a musical festival, it was challenging to find a cool spot near downtown that wasn't beyond my budget. It's a wonderful house tucked away, minutes from downtown. The weather was a little chilly but we could have easily walked to the west 6th area for the bars & fun. The owner was very nice & had the perfect accommodations, clean & comfy beds and a relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet, cozy spot in the middle of Austin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It warms my heart to know that my guests are happy and comfortable in my home, that they are able to relax and have a good time. I am really enjoying my new role as an innkeeper.

We just got back from our trip to Austin. Stayed 10 days in Mike's house, just two of us. We loved loved loved the location. It's a small, older style cottage located 3 blocks from the largest (and best) Whole Foods in the world. Plenty of shops and restaurants within a few blocks. 5-10 min walk to Lady Bird Trail. House is located on a side street between 5th and 6th, so street noise is minimal. Master bed has very comfortable tempur-pedic mattress. Didn't cook much because we enjoyed going out for meals, but kitchen seemed adequately equipped for normal use. Washer and dryer are new. HD channels on TV. Mike, the owner, is very attentive and a long time Austin resident. He is a helpful resource if needed. We enjoyed our visit and will call again if we plan another Austin trip!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Great location right in the heart of the city. The house was clean and neat. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very convenient to all that Austin has to offer, restaurants, Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park, and the night life.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners.
Owner response: My first review is so gratifying to learn that my guests enjoyed themselves and were comfortable in my home. I am brand new to VRBO and will do everything I can to make sure the guest receives the very best experience.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1971
About the owner: I came to Austin in 1970 to go to UT, fell in love with Austin, and have lived here ever since. I have lived in my house for 21 years and watched this city grow all around me.
Why the Owner Chose Downtown:
I raised my daughters in this house and both graduated from Austin High. One graduated from UT and the youngest will graduate from Colorado this year. Kids are gone now, I tease them about renting out their room.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is the perfect house to enjoy everything that is going on in this city. Walk or bike everywhere, no car necessary. We moved the house to the rear of the lot in 1971 so it's not on the street but has an alley access which affords a very unique privacy.
