We have family in this area of PA, and places to stay are pretty limited. Basically you can stay at the Holiday Inn or cram into your relatives homes. After searching the internet, I came across the Dawson River House. The photos on this site are pretty accurate. The place is not a high-end luxury rental home. It is a basic old home with just about everything you need for a comfortable stay for a few nights. There are two actual bedrooms, one on the bottom floor with one double bed, and another up in what seems to be an old attic space, where there were two full size beds, a twin and a cot up there. This bedroom had it's own AC unit, which was a plus as we were there in the summer and it was pretty hot up there, even at night. The other bedroom did not have an AC unit. The carpeting in this room was very old and worn, it was a little icky walking on it w/o shoes or socks. But it was tolerable. There was a painting in this room of a snowy owl that scares the you-know-what out of my 3 year old son, so we did not sleep in this room after the first night. :) There is one more bed in what is supposed to be a living room. This is where we slept and I hate to do so, but I have to complain about the carpeting in this room, over by the fireplace area, it smelled like dog urine. I really think the humidity/stuffiness made it worse, once the AC was on for a while the smell didn't seem as bad. I did spray a ton of air freshener in there directly on the carpeting, and that helped a bit, too. The bathroom (there's one) was fine, nothing really good or bad about it. The kitchen was GREAT, there were even food items stocked in the cabinets, which was AWESOME! (I had coffee the first morning we were there, which was great, as there are no "grocery" stores near by). There is a full size oven, fridge, coffee maker, microwave... anything you'd need, really. And also, the washer and dryer on site was FABULOUS. The linens were nice and clean, and there were plenty of towels. That was a great plus. Joan was very helpful and though we never needed to call her, she gave us her number and was very open to helping us with anything. Overall, this place is good for the price and the fact that there is nothing else really around besides one-room hotels/motels. We would definitely rent this home again, and would recommend it to family/friends.

My friends and I spent a great weekend away in your cozy home. Along with the place being very clean, it was well stocked. Plenty of linens, towels, kitchen essentials etc. Plenty of room for several people to sleep as well. The cleaning person was also very helpful when one friend lost her cell phone when we were leaving. She searched until she found it in the yard. Then went above and beyond to make arrangements to get it back her. Great place for bikers for a nice overnight rest as well!
