Kiahuna Plantation condo description
In Hawaiian “Kiahuna” means “Special Place” or “The Key to a Hidden Secret”. The Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows is indeed a special place with 35 sprawling acres of beach-front property featuring expansive green lawns with mature palm, banyan and plumeria trees, lush tropical gardens with fragrant flowers, a picturesque lagoon, and low-density bungalow-style vacation condos. The warm, turquoise water and crescent-shaped beach is protected by a reef, and is consistently rated as one of the top beaches in the US. This is the idyllic tropical Hawaii setting that most of us dream about visiting!
KIAHUNA PLANTATION AMENITIES
The Kiahuna Plantation features free parking, a beach-side activity center where you can get complimentary towels and chairs, a coin operated Laundromat, meandering trails though the lush gardens, and convenient BBQ grills sprinkled throughout the grounds. The Plantation Gardens Restaurant is also on-site and offers cocktails and dining. As with every place around the island, you’ll find plenty of Shanghai chickens and a myriad of tropical birds.
OUR KIAHUNA CONDO AMENITIES
We bought our condo in September of 2012, after which we remodeled the unit before making it available to our guests. We upgraded the bathroom to include a new vanity with granite top, and replaced the original tub with a walk-in shower with slate tile and glass doors. Upgrades also include new kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite counters, two flat screens TVs, a DVD player, Calif King size mattress, new bedspread, iPod docking stereo, new furniture on the lanai, and a completely re-stocked kitchen. While we updated the unit to today’s standards, we did leave the original Old Hawaii plantation look throughout with the original mahogany wood interior accents.
All the Kiahuna Plantation condos are breeze-cooled with no A/C. The furnished 240 square foot lanai overlooks the Moir Gardens, and there is a double BBQ island right next to bldg. Our condo offers privacy, FREE Wi-Fi, in-room safe, and is smoke-free.
OUR CONDO’S LOCATION IN THE COMPLEX
Our condo is located in Building 39 on the second floor (9 easy steps up), which is at the back of the complex directly in front of the Moir Gardens. It is considered a 'Garden View Deluxe' unit, as it does not have a direct view of the ocean, but is a short and enjoyable 3-minute walk through the grounds to Poipu Beach. It is also a very short walk to the Plantation Gardens Restaurant.
The Poipu Shopping Village is an easy stroll from the condo across Poipu Road, and features free entertainment every Monday and Wednesday such as Tahitian dance shows and fire knife dancing. The Poipu Village has several restaurants including Roy's Bar & Grill, Puka Dog, and Keoki’s Paradise (our favorite) that features an open-air setting with tiki torches, cascading waterfalls and streams meandering throughout the restaurant. You’ll also find a small grocery store, Starbucks, and many shops for gifts, art, and clothing.
World-class golf is minutes away at Kiahuna Golf Club, or the nearby Poipu Bay Golf Club. To find out about activities from zip-lining to sailing available on the island, check with the friendly folks at the on-site Expedia desk. Don't forget to explore Historic Koloa Town a few minutes away.
So, come create memories! Whether you're on your honeymoon, a couple looking for a romantic retreat, or a family looking for that perfect vacation, we hope you will share our little hidden secret in this very special place called 'The Kiahuna Plantation'.
We are contractually not allowed to display our rates online, as they are considerably lower than what the resort property manager, Castle Resorts, charges to their clients to stay in our condo. Rates may vary by length of stay and time of the year.

An Amazing Time!
Hi Rick, We had an amazing time in Kauai and really enjoyed the condo. It was a great location to be able to walk places, and we really enjoyed the beach and grassy area for ‘hanging out’ . The condo had everything we could’ve needed. Thanks so much for everything!! Best, Sara

Our honeymoon was a dream come true! We loved the upgraded, modern comfort of the condo. The condo was so convenient to everything we did on the island. We hiked Waimea Canyon, kayaked to the secret falls up the Wailua River, took a helicopter ride and attended a luau. Of course there was plenty of beach and snorkeling time too! We even swam with endangered sea turtles and saw endangered Monk seals. It was incredible!! All in all, we couldn't have had a better place to spend our honeymoon, and can't wait to go back. Thank you! The Armentrouts

Owner response: Thanks so much for your review, and we're so happy that your honeymoon was so memorable. Marilyn and I also spent our honeymoon on Kauai. It was such a great experience that we decided to make Kauai a permanent part of our lives, and we purchased the Kiahuna condo. We've actually had several honeymooners in our condo! I look forward to hearing from you on your return trips to Kauai. Much Aloha! Rick
The first thing I noticed was the upgraded kitchen and pleasant decor. It was a very cozy feeling everytime we walk in. The bathroom was spacious and practical kitchen too. I love the garden view as well. I loved that the beach was only a couple of minutes walking distance. The beach hut offered clean towels, and chairs to sit and relax to enjoy the sunsets. The beach also oferred surfing lessons. We felt that if we did nothing but just hang out around the condo we were still going to make a pleasand full day of it. There is a very nice shopping village right across the street with nice shops and many walking distance restaurants. My husband and I are pickie about the confort of our sleep, but this bedroom did not disappoint. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and pleanty of closet space and drawers. We loved everything about it!

Owner response: Joe & Debbie, Thanks so much for your review! I'm so glad the condo worked out for you and that you had a nice Fall vacation. I also agree that sometimes it's best to just hand around the condo and the Kiahuna Plantation and RELAX. No need to be out on an adventure every day. It's also fun to walk across the street to Starbuck's for coffee or one of the restaurants for an afternoon cocktail. Aloha! Rick
My husband and I had a fantastic time in Kauai. We could not have asked for more. The accommodations were just as we expected, beautifully furnished, comfortable, clean, a fully equipped kitchen for our needs, an extremely comfortable bed, a beautiful view out the lanai of the Moir gardens and some beach necessities! Our hosts were fantastic and very helpful in their prompt communications with suggestions and ideas of things to do, places to visit, to dine and shop, a little history of the plantation and even told us some of their favorites. Our top picks: kayaking the Wailua River with a hike to the secret falls, a flight around the island with terrific views of the Na Pali coast and Waimea canyon, hiking in Waimea canyon, snorkeling anywhere, the national botanical gardens in Lawai and Smith Luau, the food was fantastic! Koloa town and Hanapepe art night are great for shopping and meeting locals. The Chickens - hilarious. We had a great experience, would recommend this property to our family and friends and have decided that we will return to Kauai often. It is now our favorite island! Mahalo nui loa!

Owner response: Stacy & Sage, Thanks so much for taking the time to post your wonderful review, and for your kind words. Marilyn and I enjoyed reading your detailed review and are elated that you had such a great time! It's actually really fun helping our guests to make their plans and it allows us to "participate" in the excitement. We're really missing Kauai right now and actively making plans for our next visit. Hearing about your great vacation makes us want to be there even more. I hope you decide to stay with us the next time your vacation plans bring you back to Kauai. Much Aloha, Rick

Enjoyed the condo
We had a great time and really enjoyed your condo. You guys did a great job updating the kitchen and bath. And it was great having all the beach stuff - esp the boogie board and sun tent. We ended up leaving a couple items to add to the collection like a blow up raft and some sand toys. Thanks again for having us! Ryan

Our Stay @ Kiahuna Plantation #326
Our Stay @ Kiahuna Plantation #326
A hearty Aloha to all. My wife and I had a WONDERFUL stay at Kiahuna Plantation #326 this month. This condo is freshly updated and very clean, including a very nice kitchen, and bathroom / shower, a comfortable bed, and two flat-screen televisions. The location is ideal, with walking access to one of the best beaches (Poipu) on the island, as well as walking access to the Poipu Shopping Village, and restaurants. We enjoyed the walk through the Moir Gardens each day, when going to the beach. The owners have been very friendly and helpful with detailed information about the unit, the property, and Kauai in general, and are truly a pleasure to work with. As repeat visitors to Hawaii, and to Kauai, we look forward to the next opportunity to return - and stay here again. Mahalo!!

Owner response: Gregg & Jan, Thank you so much for your review, and we're so glad you had a great vacation. When we remodeled the condo, we made sure to leave some of the old Hawaiian plantation charm along with the modern updates. We often do receive feedback that our guests enjoyed the location, as it is within walking distance of the beach, the gardens, and the shops and restaurants across the street. Much Aloha, Rick
This condo was very nice, neat, and clean. The owner has done a great job with remodeling the place. The description was right on. Any questions were answered in a timely manner. The condo building is located a short walk to the ocean and right across the street from Poipu Village. The village has good shopping and restaurants. We especially liked Keioke because it has a meal special between 4:45-5:45.

Highly Recommended Condo
We spent 8 days at Kiahuna Plantation. We were extremely happy with this condo. The kitchen and bathroom have been totally renovated. We spent many happy hours sitting on the new furniture on the large balcony over-looking part of the Moir Gardens (a succulent garden that dates back to the 1930's). This is definitely the "quiet" part of the resort with almost no foot traffic. We certainly did not mind the walk to the beach as the grounds are impeccable and we chose a new route every time. It was such a treat to have access to comfortable chairs and large towels once we got to the beach. Another bonus was being close to an ice cream shop and to a great restaurant (Keoki's) in the strip mall aaross the street. We rarely go to a restaurant twice on one vacation but headed there three times as we loved the "jungle" atmosphere (Happy Hour from 3-5 was a bargain for food and drinks). We also tried out the restaurant at Kiahuna Plantation once mainly because we loved the look of the building (the original home of Alexandra Moir who planted all those succulents) but were also impressed with the food. The only down-side to Kiahuna Plantation was the pool and hot tub. This is not part of the complex, but the owners pay to have access to it. We did not mind the walk (about 7 mins from the condo) but the furniture was a bit sad and the shrubbery could have used some pruning. However, it was still a happy place for children with a cute little waterslide and a "pebble beach" - just not somewhere that most adults would want to return to each day. As a scrawny person, I appreciated the fact that the hot tub was truly hot (and larger than it looked in the photos!). The owners were superb - answered all emails right away and spontaneously sent us travel advice. At their suggestion, we rented a "Wildcard" from Thrifty and spent the week in a Crowne Victoria - felt like Frank Cannon (if you lived through the '70s, you will know who I mean) driving around in The Comfy Couch. We had no trouble finding a new interesting jogging route each day. Our favorite hike was the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail (drive to the Grand Hyatt, turn right just past the hotel and park in the little free parking lot by their beach). Start walking along the water away from the hotels and you will come to some amazing cliffs and beaches. You will need proper walking shoes as there is plenty of volcanic rock on parts of the path. We've already recommended this condo to friends.

The one bedroom unit was well appointed and maintained. All interactions with the owner were timely and complete. The unit was quiet. I was concerned that there would be road noise given the unit location but this was not the case. Easy walk to restaurants and shopping. Loved the morning and evening view of and bird songs from the Muir Cactus garden. Would stay here again.

Owner response: Aloha Gay, Thanks so much for your review. Marilyn and I also feel that the lanai overlooking the Moir Gardens is a special place, especially in the mornings. The birds seem to be very vocal, and like to come for a visit while we're having our breakfast! Warmest regards, Rick
The 10 day stay at this property overlooking a beautiful Cactus Garden was most enjoyable. We often saw Humpback Whales from the shores of the property and sunsets were stunning. The owner, Rick, was most helpful with hints on shopping, activities and restaurants. The swimming pool area was good but the hot tub (Jacuzzi) was totally inadequate. We can strongly recommend this rental.

Owner response: Dear Om and Ella, Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review. While guests at our condo get free use of the Kiahuna Swim & Tennis club across the street, I agree that it does not quite match the very high standards of the Kiahuna Plantation grounds. I am hopeful that we will eventually have our own pool on-site that is on par with the awesome grounds of the Kiahuna Plantation. Warm regards, Rick

About the owner: We discovered the Kiahuna Plantation while driving around the island on our honeymoon in 2002. We were already mesmerized by Kauai’s natural beauty, its friendly people rich in culture, and the great climate, but the Kiahuna Plantation left an indelible impression on us! We had discovered the jewel of Kauai with the most beautiful beach we had ever seen, the great lawn, the tall palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the manicured grounds with traditional beach house bungalows sprinkled throughout the grounds. In 2012 we came back to Kauai for our 10th anniversary and stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation, and decided to make it a permanent part of our lives. The vision of our grandkids playing on this beach and experiencing Kauai was just too much to resist. We visit a couple of times per year. We sincerely hope that you create meaningful family memories during your stay, and that you feel at home in our special little condo.
Why the Owner Chose Kiahuna Plantation:
Kauai is very special to us since we started our married lives together there in 2002. The Kiahuna Plantation has become an important place for us, and we look forward to spending time here with family and friends. While we have both traveled around the world and have also lived abroad, we still feel that Kauai has so much to offer. It has become our second home and we look forward to our visits to Kauai.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
While our condo is not located directly on the beach, its rental rates reflect that fact. Its location, an easy 3-minute walk to the beach through the beautiful grounds, offers many amenities nearby. It’s located directly in front of the Moir Garden, from where it’s a short walk to the on-site Plantation Restaurant & Bar. A BBQ area is directly next to the building. No need to use your car to go for coffee at Starbucks, a cocktail & dinner, or groceries, as it’s a short stroll across the street to the Poipu Shopping Village that features great restaurants and shopping.
