Ajijic house description
'La Rusa' was built in the 1920s by a Russian ballerina, Zara Alexeyewa Khyva St. Alban. This may be the most charming home in the Ajijic Village! La Rusa was a world-renowned dancer and actress who made Ajijic her home from the mid 1920’s until her death in 1989. She never married. She was the first female owner of a local gold mine. You will find mention of La Rusa in many stories and articles about Ajijic. The dining room at nearby restaurant La Nueva Posada is named in her honor and filled with memorabilia. The previous owner of this home has done extensive research on her and is currently writing a book about her remarkable life.
Casa de la Rusa has just undergone a very tasteful renovation - stainless appliances and gleaming marble counter tops in the kitchen and colorful hand-painted sinks in the enlarged master bath.
This home is the only remaining building salvaged from a hacienda that ran an entire block long and down to the lake. The main house features a large living room with traditional Mexican equipale furniture and a beautiful round and shuttered window and a classic fireplace (with gas insert), a separate dining room with vaulted ceiling, the beautifully renovated bright kitchen, newly designed bathroom with a large tiled shower and a tub, and a large bedroom/sitting room with king size bed, desk, comfy chairs, wall to wall closets, and fireplace (with gas insert). The separate two-story Casita offers a main floor bedroom with double bed and 3 piece bathroom(shower) and an upper bedroom reached by a winding wrought iron staircase with 2 single beds, 2 piece powder room and a remarkable view of the mountains. There is also an outdoor laundry area with washer and dryer.
In the private and enclosed courtyard you will find a fountain and a solar-heated, salt-water pool under an orange tree with an assortment of native plantings, a charcoal BBQ, chimenea and a sculpture wall. There is limited on street parking in front of the villa but long term off street parking is available in the village.
The rent includes a maid, gardener and pool man, basic TV, DVD player and stereo system, local telephone as well as a separate Vonage phone for free calls to the US & Canada, wireless Internet and water. Tenants will be responsible for refilling the gas tank to the original level before departure.
