Hale Nani Kai, 'House of the Beautiful Sea', is one of the last original 'sugar shacks' left on the south shore of Kauai. Hale Nani Kai takes you back to the days of a simpler Kauai... vast ocean views, the sound of waves crashing on the lava shore, and the simplicity of island life 50 years ago.
Hale Nani Kai is a true beach house. Let the sounds of the waves lull you into an afternoon nap, enjoy lazy days on the magnificent lanai in the shade with a good book or just gaze out on the gorgeous South Shore view of Brenneke's and Poipu Beaches. Be entertained in whale season with your front row seats for whales and their calves and the year round turtles that frequent the shore.
Hale Nani Kai has two bedrooms, each with a comfortable king bed and bathroom en suite. The living room has a full sized sleeper sofa. The decor is beach house casual, boasting both indoor and outdoor dining areas for 6. The kitchen is well stocked for meals in, and a gas BBQ for the grillers in your family waits on the lanai. There are laundry facilities on the premises and beach chairs, towels, umbrellas to take on your short walk to the beach or to enjoy Hale Nani Kai’s private lawn. The sunset views of Hale Nani Kai are breathtaking, and a wonderful treat to return to at the end of the day from wherever your adventures have taken you.

and this by far was the best place we've stayed. The house is beautiful and well equiped and very comfortable!!! The view from the lanai is awesome and rainbows and sunsets glorrous! We hope to come back and stay again here now that we've experienced it. We enjoyed Brennekes Beahc Broiler, Roys and the Beach House for meals out and cooked in for many meals. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely home - hate to leave but we have pictures - and will come back. AlohaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It had been 8 years since we've been to Kauai , used to come many times per year. This was a beautiful home to get us back in Aloha mode. Took full advantage of the lanai with many hours of whale watching. Poipu has changed so much over the past 8 years , for better or worse. Mahalo for opening your home to us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My wife and I had the most wonderful 25th anniversary you can ever imagine at Hale Nani Kai. Our memories of mornings sitting on the lanai eating guava fans and fresh mango, drinking kona coffee while looking out over one of the most beautiful views in the world makes us want to pack out bags and jump on the next airplane headed to Kaui. This beautifully appointed vacation cottage is perfectly set in a secluded quiet neighborhood (with great neighbors!) with only the sound of waves crashing against the volcanic rock just a few feet away and the smell of nearby sweet plumeria flowers greeting you in the mornings after the most restful sleep you can imagine. Within walking distance is everything you would want in a paradise vacation including the best beaches in the world to boogie board, snorkel or just relax and watch the whales go by. Hale Nani Kai has everything you will need to make your dream vacation complete. The beautiful rooms, open floor plan and spacious lanai makes it tempting just to stay there and relax with the ocean breeze making all your cares drift away. If do want to explore the island, you will find that the owners have graciously provided all the information you need to plan adventures such as a helicopter ride over Waimea Canyon, local surfing lessons, directions to the local farmers markets, recommendations to wonderful restaurants and even directions to deserted beaches that are among the most gorgeous in the world. Without a doubt however, the highlight of Hale Nani Kai are the owners themselves. Their kindness, generosity and true love for people is felt moment by moment as you relax in paradise and experience the most wonderful vacation imaginable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So glad yall could make those wonderful memories at Hale Nani Kai! Such a blessing to us to be able to bless you with our home in the islands! I love it that you love Kauai and Hale Nani Kai like we do!!! Yeah, to get surf lessons from Kauai Surf School at the Sheraton Beach with Jaime and Sparky is a real treat! Those guys are awesome and really make surfing fun for us novelist surfers. Im going to learn to paddle board next trip!!! Aloha friends!

We have stayed at Hale Nani Kai twice and absolutely love it! In April, we spotted humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles from the large spacious lanai (porch). It is a perfect location for romance, relaxation and a base camp for adventure. We walked to several of the best beaches and THE BEST snorkeling on the island. We ate most of our meals outside on the lanai and found every amenity we wanted. The owners are friendly and amazing at hospitality. You will LOVE this quaint, private, accessible beach home in a beautiful and safe location! We would not stay ANYWHERE else. We hope to return soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Staying at this property was the best vacation my wife and I have ever been on! You have all the perks of staying at the Grand Hyatt, but you get to go back to a beautiful beachfront home every night! The best feature of the home is the massive lanai (balcony) with the amazing view of Poi Pu beach. You can wake up every morning to decide your adventure. And the best part is you can WALK to most of them. Poi Pu beach is the best beach on the island and it is a short stroll away. My only advice is to avoid being over-confident in the surfing category. This Texas guy found that out the hard way! Golf, Spa, pools are at your fingertips at the Hyatt. My wife's favorite activity was taking a short drive to the farmer's market to buy all the exotic fruit and flowers that Hawaii had to offer. In the evening, we would either cook dinner at the house or go out for an amazing dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants in the area. The home is very spacious, clean, and well-kept. The kitchen had every amenity we could ever need. The owners are fantastic to work with. My wife and I can't wait to go back! If you see a date that works for you, book it. This place is a hidden treasure!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I have stayed here twice in paradise. Both times we have made wonderful memories! Hale Nani Kai is secluded, quiet, comfortable, clean, and has the best view of the water/setting sun I have ever experienced. The kitchen is fully equipped. We ate every meal on the lanai watching the waves and relaxing, but the dining room and living room are lovely as well You do not need a car if you plan to stay around Poipu. We walked to the water, one block away. Brenneke's beaches (2 blocks away)offer boogie board surfing as well as a secluded shallow cove for children to safely swim. However, a rental car is great if you plan to drive around the island. Nothing is very far away! We plan to return as soon as possible. Mahalo to the owners for sharing so generously their home in paradise.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This home was like a haven of rest and peace for celebrating our 30th anniversary. From the minute we stepped in the front door we felt welcomed and at home. The owners have provided everything you need and much more! We loved the comfortable beds and well supplied kitchen but most of all the huge lanai! The view of the ocean is amazing - we saw the most spectacular sunsets and rainbows while we were there. There are wonderful adventures to be experienced - boogie boarding, surfing, hiking, golfing, shopping, etc. We used guide books and the guest book provided in Hale Nani Kai to plan our days and were never disappointed. Our 19 year old son and a friend joined midway through the trip and had an absolute blast! They were able to be boogie boarding within minutes of waking and loved the shave ice and pastries located just a few blocks away. Hale Nani Kai is perfect for a romantic get away but is also large enough to provide a great family vacation. You will not want to leave this beautiful island and home! I highly recommend you choose Hale Nani Kai.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

To say this was the best vacation my husband and I have ever taken in our 12 years of marriage doesn't even begin to explain the experience of spending a week at Hale Nani Kai, just off Poipu Beach with breathtaking views of the ocean. After some of the best nights sleep with the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze, we began each day on the lanai with locally grown macadamia nut coffee brewed in the quaint, well stocked kitchen and guava fans from Brenneke's Deli, a short easy walk from the house. Time stands still as you sit on the lanai and are lulled into a state of perfect peace and relaxation by the views, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, and the Aloha breeze greeting you from the ocean. While there are an abundance of sights to see and things to do in very close proximity to this lovely home, we found ourselves spending entire mornings on the lanai without a care in the world. After our long mornings on the lanai we enjoyed our days adventures like golfing on some of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen, hiking, snorkeling, boating along side dolphins, shopping at local markets, diving off of waterfalls, laying on the beach, a spa day at the Grand Hyatt resort, walks on the beach, exploring the Napail Coast, afternoons on the lava rocks taking in the beauty of the waves and visiting a local coffee plantation. We found ourselves after full, fun filled days drawn back to the lanai to watch the amazing sunsets. While one of my favorite meals during our stay was made by my husband out on the grill on the lanai we also daily enjoyed the amazing, fresh, local cuisine. Some places like Keoki's with their famous Hula Pie and fish tacos, The Beach Hut with a fish sandwich like no other, and Puka Dog we found ourselves dinning frequently and becoming friends with the wait staff. One of the best things about Kauai is the slow pace of life and the friendly locals. You can't help but slow down and enjoy life like they do while staying away from the hustle and bustle of resort life and retreating in this quaint, private oceanfront cottage. You can tell the owners take pride in ownership of their Kauain home and have not forgotten a single detail in preparing the house for their visitors. They treat you like family when you stay there and go above and beyond to provide you with a home away from home experience on the beautiful South Shore of Kauai. I plan to return and would not even consider staying anywhere else!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It’s a great place with wonderful accommodations. The house has a spectacular view of the ocean from the lanai. The beach and the restaurant/ deli are within walking distance. The house is located in a safe, quiet and beautiful Poipu neighborhood. And in close proximity to the Poipu shopping centers, restaurants, resorts and town of Koloa. There are really a lot of good things can be said about this house and the area. I highly recommend it as a vacation spot for those who are looking for a nice and relaxing place to stay with a good variety of day-time activities in the area to choose from.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Ummm....oh yeah! Brenneke's Deli with the guava fans and apple turnovers piping hot at 8 am are to die for, huh?!?! Walking there on a beautiful aloha morning is effortless and then, consuming those delicious little pastries in Poipu Beach Park across the street is just THE BEST! Our friend, Joyce, is there making those little diet-busting delights every weekday. Make sure and tell her aloha!

We had the privilege of staying here with our son, Brett, & his wife, Jenna. It was truly "a little bit of Heaven"! Our first morning, we had pancakes out on the spacious lanai, and it was magical! The view of the ocean, the sound of the waves, and the gentle breeze was just perfect as we visited and soaked in the beauty surrounding us in complete serenity & privacy. The kitchen is "just right"..... well-equipped, and inclusive of the living area and breezes circulating through the house. The 2 bedrooms have king beds, roomy closets, chests for storage, & clean bathrooms, furnished with linens & items you may have forgotten. We loved walking to Poipu beach, Brennecke's for lunch or dinner, and the Hyatt Resort just down the road. It's too good to be true! You will LOVE this quaint, private, accessible beach home! We hope to return soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are thrilled to know that you loved Kauai and Hale Nani Kai like we do! To share this little piece of paradise with others is truly our blessing! Those pancakes on the lanai are making my mouth water. Ummm! I personally, can spend hours on that lanai and not even realize what happened to the day. Kauaian time is the BEST time! Yall are welcome to return to our home in the islands anytime! Aloha.

About: We first moved to the Islands in 1988 and lived in Oahu. One trip to Kauai and we were HOOKED! We bought property in Poipu in 1996 and keep coming back! We live in Texas full time and love to share the blessing of this home while we are away.
Why Private Homes:
We had owned a condo previously and wanted to have a little more privacy and space. We found this jewel in the middle of Poipu and have loved it ever since! The location is perfect for walking to either Poipu Beach Park or the Hyatt, Shipwreck Beach. The vast open view from the lanai was the selling point for us as well as the uniqueness of this old house! We have updated it, but tried to maintain the old, cottage style living it was intended for when it was built in 1962. It has withstood hurricanes and storms, hosted many families and friends, been the spot for various Hawaiian musical concerts and countless delicious meals served and enjoyed over the years. It's the real Kauai. So many incredible memories for us and no doubt many more to come!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Huge covered lanai, spectacular ocean view, privacy, location, sounds of waves crashing all day and night, whale watching, grassy lawn
