We were traveling as a family of four, down from Edmonton, AB, looking for some spring weather and new places to explore. This was a perfect house for us to land in - cozy rooms (it was actually hard to get our teenagers away from the comfortable beds and great lounging spaces), a well equipped kitchen (easy for fast meals and quick clean up), a generous supply of books, games, and dvds, and most of all, a good central location in a lovely neighborhood that provided great access to the university area, as well as Eastlake, Wallingford, and downtown. The carriage house is on Harvard Ave, which borders Rt 5, a major highway, making for significant road noise (passing cars and trucks, not the loud sirens or honking taxis that you'd hear in city center), but one quickly adapts to the background sounds with the help of a white noise air purifier in the house. We would definitely stay here again, and recommend it enthusiastically. The owners live next door, and are readily available and happy to provide directions and ideas for travelers. Thanks Jill!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks Robbin! So happy to share Seattle with you all! Let me know anytime you are in town and need a place!!

We had 2 parents with 4 kids between 12 and 21 and were very comfortable. The beds were super comfortable and the futon wasn't even bad! We had read being close to the highway was someone's concern, but it was a nonissue, everyone slept well and the easy access was handy. It was everything as advertised and more! It is well kept up, solidly built and you don't hear neighborhood noise; furnished nicely also! Thanks for the books, games, basketball hoop and hot chocolate!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Great to have you all and so happy you enjoyed yourselves! We are always aiming to make the home as comfortable as possible! Come back anytime!!

We had a wonderful stay. We brought our 2 young kids and they loved the video system and all the toys and the basketball net. We felt, as a family of four, very comfortable in the cottage. The loft was not only fun for the kids but big enough to sleep both of them. A lot of thought was put into this cottage. I did not realize it was located on a busy street when I booked it. Freeway was a little noisy. But in some ways that was convenient as we were close to the freeway and buses. I would stay here again and recommend it for small families. About the owner: We have lived all over Seattle and love the Capitol Hill, Eastlake neighborhoods and have now, are enjoying the wonderful views of Portage Bay!
Why the Owner Chose Capitol Hill:
This is the most unique and charming property I have ever seen. Everyone who comes into the carriage house or the main house are charmed by the striking differences between the two era's (10's and 50's). We look forward to continuing with the care and attention that older buildings require, as this one is certainly worth having around!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
I think among other things that people find charming about this house, is that it was actually a functioning carrage home for many years. We only just threw away the actual 'carriage doors' when we purchased. The bedrooms and kitchen were horse stables and the bathroom was the tack room. The spirling stairway up to the top was where they stored the hay!
