Wonderful long weekend!
Wonderful long weekend!
From beginning to end, our experience with Jill and The Carriage House was great. She was very prompt in responding to any needs we might have had and met us as we arrived. The house is cozy and the upstairs space is perfect for a couple and a kid or two. Our son enjoyed exploring all the nooks and crannies, and we enjoyed all the books (what a collection!). A car is not necessary if you want to explore the neighborhood. For us, it was an easy jump in the car to downtown or to other parts of Seattle. All in all, we had a wonderful long weekend at The Carriage House and will be back in the future. Thank you, Jill!

Owner response: Thank you so much for your review! So happy to host your family and so glad you enjoyed it! I loved your son's drawing of the ship! See you next time! Jill
Great spot!!! Very welcoming too. We had a group of six young adults and two kids and it suited our group perfectly. Close to everything!! Jill and Dick are very welcoming and professional. Definitely recommend it for your stay in Seattle.

An Oasis From the Hustle and Bustle
An Oasis From the Hustle and Bustle
From the moment you walk in to the Carriage House, you get the feeling that someone has gone out of their way to make you feel as comfortable as if you were a treasured family member coming for a visit. Everything was thought of and prepared in advance. It was clear to see that someone had given great thought to every comfort possible. This was the perfect place for us as we traveled to my son's wedding this weekend. The wedding venue was two blocks away and it was wonderful to know that we could not be late for anything and we would have no trouble getting home. At the end of the evening, we were happy to be "home" where we all felt like we could relax, just as if we were in our own homes. The upstairs was like a separate space which was perfect for my daughter, son-in-law, and their two boys. The downstairs bedrooms were roomy and comfortable enough for two of my sisters and me to share. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots and pans and there are many little extras, like condiments and spices already there so you don't have to run out and get any for your cooking needs. The bathroom is also well stocked with plenty of towels and some necessary supplies like soap, shampoo, etc. My three year old grandson loved playing with the toys and games found both upstairs and downstairs in the many "nooks and crannies" that are great fun to explore. And the baby was perfectly happy and slept most of the time. It is that quiet and comfortable in the carriage house. I can whole heartily recommend this Carriage House for your Seattle stay. A big part of our experience was that we were renting from a wonderfully caring and responsive owner. Jill was available to answer every question we came up with and answered emails within minutes. It was also nice to know that she was just next door if anything came up. Come enjoy Seattle's many wonderful activities and know that at the end of the day, you can relax and put your feet up, just as if you were at home, because you are!

My family (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 8 year old) LOVED this place. It's very charming and has been recently renovated in a way that keeps all the charm but makes it super comfortable. The 2 queen beds downstairs were extremely comfortable, and though I didn't test the upstairs beds, there were no complaints. The locale was nice too--you can easily walk to the Univ of Wash area and eat at all the great ethnic joints around there. .It's very near the highway, but we couldn't hear any noise from it--the owner's have an air purifier machine that seemed to work as a noise filterer, too. All in all, one of the best places I"ve stayed through vrbo (out of about 10 in various cities).

Spring Break Road Trip
Spring Break Road Trip
We were traveling as a family of four, down from Edmonton, AB, looking for some spring weather and new places to explore. This was a perfect house for us to land in - cozy rooms (it was actually hard to get our teenagers away from the comfortable beds and great lounging spaces), a well equipped kitchen (easy for fast meals and quick clean up), a generous supply of books, games, and dvds, and most of all, a good central location in a lovely neighborhood that provided great access to the university area, as well as Eastlake, Wallingford, and downtown. The carriage house is on Harvard Ave, which borders Rt 5, a major highway, making for significant road noise (passing cars and trucks, not the loud sirens or honking taxis that you'd hear in city center), but one quickly adapts to the background sounds with the help of a white noise air purifier in the house. We would definitely stay here again, and recommend it enthusiastically. The owners live next door, and are readily available and happy to provide directions and ideas for travelers. Thanks Jill!

We had 2 parents with 4 kids between 12 and 21 and were very comfortable. The beds were super comfortable and the futon wasn't even bad! We had read being close to the highway was someone's concern, but it was a nonissue, everyone slept well and the easy access was handy. It was everything as advertised and more! It is well kept up, solidly built and you don't hear neighborhood noise; furnished nicely also! Thanks for the books, games, basketball hoop and hot chocolate!

Great for families!
We had a wonderful stay. We brought our 2 young kids and they loved the video system and all the toys and the basketball net. We felt, as a family of four, very comfortable in the cottage. The loft was not only fun for the kids but big enough to sleep both of them. A lot of thought was put into this cottage. I did not realize it was located on a busy street when I booked it. Freeway was a little noisy. But in some ways that was convenient as we were close to the freeway and buses. I would stay here again and recommend it for small families. About the owner: We have lived all over Seattle and love the Capitol Hill, Eastlake neighborhoods and have now, are enjoying the wonderful views of Portage Bay! The picture above is prior to any renovation when home was still in its 'primitive' state :)
Why the Owner Chose Capitol Hill:
This is the most unique and charming property I have ever seen. Everyone who comes into the carriage house and the main house are charmed by the striking differences between the two era's (10's and 50's). We look forward to continuing with the care and attention that older buildings require, as this one is certainly worth having around! We take every opportunity to make it a better place at each check in and out.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
I think among other things that people find charming about this house, is that it was actually a functioning carrage home for many years. We only just threw away the actual 'carriage doors' when we purchased. The bedrooms and kitchen were horse stables and the bathroom was the tack room. The spirling stairway up to the top was where they stored the hay!
