We took this old adobe house down to the mud bricks and remodeled it by hand with mostly reclaimed materials into a super cute warm contemporary cottage. It's an 850 sqr ft one bedroom with hardwood floors throughout. There is a woodstove in the front room and a custom-built 12'x4' daybed that can sleep two in a pinch. Great for lounging side by side in front of the fire. A bathroom floor tiled in pennies, handmade cushions, unique textiles and original art give the house a special Marfa style charm. There is one bathroom with a tub & shower, gas heat, a swamp cooler, full kitchen, big closet, covered back porch and a big fenced back yard with a nice fire pit. The house is just a block south of the renowned Thunderbird Hotel, close to everything in town (everything is close to everything).
This house is great for a single person or couple but can squeeze in a few more if you're all good friends and don't mind close quarters. Nice neighbors, safe, quiet (except for passing trains and peacocks) neighborhood .
I've provided a list of restaurants, stores and art museums with hours and contact info.
Sorry, no actual pony available.

We had a great time at Fancy Pony Land! The house is adorable and well maintained. Lorna is great to work with as well. We were lucky enough to be in town just after a big snow storm blanketed Marfa in white.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My two best friends from high school and I converged at Fancy Pony Land for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The house is lovely and fresh and clean. We had everything we needed to cook great meals and relax. We did bring an air mattress so that we all 3 could sleep more comfortably. Keep in mind that Marfa restaurants may not be open on certain days or during the holidays, so come prepared to cook a bit. We did walk to Art Galleries and restaurants the day after Thanksgiving. My favorites were the Chinati Foundation (art), Marfa Ballroom (art) and the Pizza Foundation (food). Great music at Padres on Wednesday night and great crowd at the Last Saloon on Friday night. Lorna was a perfect site coordinator and responsive to any question. A highly recommended stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Great unique touches through out the house, such as the awesome stove! and penny floor in the restroom. This house is very quiet, despite the occasional train passing through the Marfa township. Wood floors, doorways, and throughout make it very appealing. It is in immaculate condition and goes along with the theme of the town. The owner, Lorna, is very responsive, polite and accommodating. She was sweet enough to email my girlfriend and I a list of places to visit at our request. I would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I am a clothing, jewelry & interiors designer and until very recently had a store in Marfa called Fancy Pony Land. The store featured my clothing, train-squashed penny jewelry and artwork as well as work by artist friends from Marfa and around the country. Last year the store was featured in Vogue as one of their 20 favorite stores in 20 cities. The house reflects this artist-made sensibility. This spring we moved to the Grand Canyon, where my husband is a backcountry Park Ranger. We lived in Marfa for 5 years and were super sad to leave the coolest small town in America and some of the world's best people. We come back whenever we can but when we're not there you can enjoy Marfa and the house for us.
Why the Owner Chose Marfa:
We fell in love with Marfa after living in the tiny village of Redford (SE of Marfa on the Rio Grande) for 5 winters. It was really the people of Marfa and the good friends we made there that made us want to buy a house. This house was a good cute fixer-upper project for us. Just when we got it fixed up perfectly, we moved!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We have wonderful neighbors and a great central location. Marfa is a truly unique town that combines the sophistication and culture of a big city with the sweetness, friendliness and safety of a small town. People look out for one another and there is always something interesting going on. It is a town full of artists, characters and Texas tall tales.
