Can you believe the charm of the five-star-rated Pinecone Cottage? It is available to couples for a very reasonable nightly rate! We have the philosophy that it is better to reduce our nightly rate than to have our delightful cottage remain vacant. Therefore, budget-minded couples can enjoy this peaceful retreat at a very economical price! To immediately get the ball rolling on your reservation, just call 888-424-5211 or fill out the convenient inquiry form. We'll be back in touch with a full quote, in most cases within a few hours.
This is a great time of year to head your vehicle up the mountain to Big Bear's pine country, and spend your time in this wonderful one-bedroom, one-bath cottage. We know for a fact that the popular Pinecone Cottage has a nightly rate much lower for couples than what you would find at Big Bear's Motel 6, but with so much more charm and amenities. The rent amount carries a 8% short-term lodging tax, but the only other charge is a very low $40 cottage cleaning fee. That makes for a weekend that is in the budget for the most frugal of couples.
Tucked away on the east side of Big Bear Valley is the charming Pinecone Cottage. Big Bear's popular lake and village are just a 10-minute drive away. Yet the Pinecone Cottage is just a fraction of the cost you will pay for these congested neighborhoods. No wonder the cottage has a growing number of positive comments from former guests, making the Pinecone Cottage a five-star VRBO listing.
Certainly, when you and your companion open the front door of the cottage for the first time, there won’t be any thought of being on a tight budget with these accommodations. Pinecone Cottage gets its name from the more than two dozen pine trees that fill the large, fenced backyard, and are particularly romantic at sunup and sundown. That's just one feature of this quaint one-bedroom cottage that has pleased many guests.
Far from your standard hotel room, you can enjoy a warm, inviting space that has been created here on peaceful Victoria Lane. There is an eclectic mix of old-world treasures, rustic American antiques, as well as all the modern conveniences one expects in a vacation home. Yes, wifi is available, as well as 100s of channels to be surfed on the TVs in the living room and bedroom. Still not enough to watch? The owners have an extensive collection of classic films and music CDs they make available to guests.
The living room bookshelves have games and books to enjoy during your stay. Pick a hardback and a spot to enjoy it. The comfy living room couch in front of the gas fireplace is especially inviting in evening. During days enjoy the warmth of the sun and a slight breeze whistling through the pine trees that dot the spacious backyard.
The large bedroom holds a queen bed, plus a built-in desk tucked under the bay window that fills the room with light. The bed is a SLEEP NUMBER mattress, the same found in many high end Best Western, Marriott and Radisson hotels. If the only way you can take off for a mountain getaway is by promising the boss a few 'must-do' assignments will get done, this is an ideal location to tackle them. There's a spacious desk custom-built in the bedroom bay window. Your laptop, the simple wifi connection, and an understanding partner are all that's needed.
Just because the cottage is compact doesn't mean the eat-in kitchen is lacking for anything to prepare your own meals. Much care was taken to utilize every square inch of space in this kitchen, which includes a microwave for quick snacks, plus a four-burner stove and oven for larger meals. There’s plenty of cabinet space below and above gleaming black granite countertops that hold all the pots and pans you will need to make a four-course dinner, if so inclined. A coffee maker, blender and toaster -- even a crock pot -- are included. It’s good to check out all cabinets before you head into town for a grocery run. The cabinet above the stove, for example, contains dozens of spices for your time in the cottage. If there’s a special kitchen gadget you can’t find, just knock on the back door of the main house, where your host probably has two of them. While the kitchen is cozy, it never feels cramped, probably due to the vaulted ceilings, covered in a rich T&G honey pine planks, the same shade that appears on the wood floors.
Even your morning shower can be an adventure in the Pinecone Cottage. The tub has a rain forest shower head, plus a second hand-held rinsing nozzle. There's a hair dryer, of course, plus plenty of plush towels, as well as soap and shampoo.
Your hosts promise your time at Pinecone Cottage will be as relaxing as possible, providing special touches with each passing season. They will stay out of sight when your vehicle is in the cottage driveway. If in the main house, they promise to be as quiet as church mice, and will respect your privacy. Yet chances are their hectic “always-on-duty” work schedule will keep them away from the property much of the time you are here. However, if you need anything, just call the toll-free number. Your host will be there in a flash.
One more thing. Because of the nature of the cottage, there is a no-pet policy, and the maximum occupancy is two individuals. Ready to book this amazing cottage at such a reasonable cost? Call our toll free number today -- 888-424-5211 -- or send an inquiry through VRBO. You'll be very glad you did.

The Pine Cone Cottage is located within walking distance to the Sugarloaf park. Basketball courts, tennis courts, skateboard ramps, and a softball diamond are among the many sporting activities available. You really get a feel for what living in Big Bear is like from the small bedroom community of Sugarloaf. Surrounding properties are a rich collection of second homes, full-time residences and other vacation rentals. Yet it is only a 7-to-12-minute drive to all of Big Bear's main attractions.
Year Purchased: 1995
About: I once worked full-time in Orange County as an instructor at a private school where I helped students through courses such as property management and appraisal, as well as prepare for the California Real Estate License Exam. One student, very grateful after passing the state exam, invited me to the town of Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains. I fell in love with the quiet peacefulness of the community, and vowed to move there following retirement. But once here, my background in real estate made me forget retiring, but instead invest in vacation rental cabins, renovating them to appeal to visitors from throughout Southern California.
Even though this property was purchased some 20 years ago, the guesthouse did not even exist at the time. It began as a carport, then a storage shed, and now it has been expanded to this delightful one-bedroom cottage. Once inside, guests marvel at its charming appearance. It looks like it has been here for many, many years. Designing the cottage was a joy. The shed became a spacious living room. To the east was added a gleaming new kitchen and bath. To the east grew the large bedroom with its attractive bay window. The cottage is now filled with a fine collection of treasures gathered from trips throughout Europe, or discovered in corners of quaint antique shops. The final result has impressed each of the couples who have enjoyed staying in the cottage. Many of them have been so moved by the experience that they have added their glowing comments on the review page of this listing, making it a five-star rated VRBO property.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
While the cottage makes a cozy retreat for couples, equally enjoyable is the spacious backyard with its gas barbeque. In spring, the owners erect a large gazebo that offers a perfect spot for couples to enjoy a romantic lunch or dinner beneath its canvas roof. There are no neighbors who can intrude this very private setting. Guests also like to pack a picnic basket -- also provided by the owners -- and take the short road down the pine-tree shaded road to the community park filled with mature trees. There's also a small corner grocery store nearby, but guests also can make the short 10-minute trip into town for a larger selection of farm-grown fruits and vegetables. Another five minutes will take you to the shores of Big Bear Lake, another perfect spot to enjoy a picnic for two.
