Maxwelton Beach cottage description

Welcome to the simpler times. Make this darling beachhouse oceanfront on Maxwelton Beach, Whidbey Island your home away from home for the week. This cottage consistently draws whispers from all those who pass by, not only because of its dollhouse charm but also because of the endless stunning views of the Puget sound. There is a smooth ocean breeze that lightly gusts through this 1960's era beach house, which has been completely renovated and offers up a modern chic decor at 1960’s pricing. The 150 feet of unobstructed ocean views provide endless sunsets that can be seen from nearly every room in the house. The kitchen and bathroom are detailed with hexagon tile and country cabinets in addition to the modern luxuries of stainless steel appliances. Two queen beds in separate spaces provide enough separation for two couples, yet still give the feeling of a community dwelling.

Low tide brings about 300 feet of sand to explore, and western exposures gives the most sunlight at the desirable Southern end of Whidbey Island.

Newly remodeled!

The house is fine (other than smelling like smoke). It's clean and tastefully decorated. The bed upstairs is comfy. We tried the bed downstairs but it's on wheels and moves around too much. (even with the chocks on the wheels) The stairs are super steep so keep that in mind. I'm in my 50s in relatively good shape and I had trouble with them. There is a fireplace but we were not provided firewood. The biggest problem is beach access. The pictures are misleading making you think you can reach the beach by walking across the street. That is not the case. The property directly across is private property and I was told they frown upon neighbors walking thru to the beach. So, we tried accessing the beach via the park just down the street. Due to the tide pools, we were not able to get to the beach unless we wanted to wade thru pools. (In warm weather, no problem. In winter, problem) In the end, we couldn't access the beach by the house so we ended up going to Double Bluff. Accessing the beach is a big deal for us so, unfortunately, we can't highly recommend this house and it's doubtful that we will return.

Owner response: To clarify, the smell of "smoke" was from the fireplace, certainly not from smokers. This is a non-smoking property. It was unfortunate for this particular guest that there was a fire had the day before, and the damper must have been left shut without it burning out completely. To address the beach comment, well, as I have tried to communicate with this guest directly (without response), we cannot control the tides and they were unfortunately unable to walk on the beach at high tide. There is a tide table in the drawer which can give you the low tide times, as well you can see out the window at certain times there is more beach available to walk on. Had they walked over at low tide, they would have had lots of beach to walk on, with easy access. We work tremendously hard to ensure that every stay for every guest is perfect, but unfortunately we could simply not please this guest. Despite our attempts to reach this guest to hear their concerns and help correct any misunderstandings, this simply is one that just didn't work out. We have never seen a situation before or after this where someone from Maxwelton could not access the beach. And if that was the case, for whatever reason, we are always willing to work with our guests to make things right. We welcome you back, we can ensure you that the bed downstairs will have the wheel rollers locked, and that you can have a lovely time on the beach, as we always do, and all of our other guests can attest.

4 stars in my book is waaaay better than good....bordering on excellent. let's just get that settled right now! by now, you know the beach access is across the street and down a bit...maybe 45 seconds?! the lot across the street is private and well landscaped and provides excellent sunset viewing. this little beach cottage is charming and has everything necessary for a get-away. Hop,skip and jump to Langley...nice to come "back home" to peaceful quiet. We "did" the Max Welton Beach, DOuble Bluff Beach, Langley several times...great food at Primo Bistro and Cafe Langley....Muk Cafe, Coupeville. Mostly wanted to read and walk the dog! We never got the Direct TV to work, watched a Netflix movie the first night and never turned the TV on again. A little awkward that the TV is upstairs...and the stairs are a little steep. Kitchen and living area downstairs is very cozy and nicely arranged for game playing, reading and gazing at the sunset. 2nd bedroom downstairs is very quiet and the bathroom is roomy by cottage standards I would call the cottage perfect for a couple, maybe a couple of small kids, but not more than 4 adults. Oh...the front yard is terrific with a short picket fence...and the back yard is also very roomy (not fenced). We spent all of our time in front with a glass of wine, watching the sunset. Both yards have plenty of seating . It was a very nice 3 day getaway and would love to do it again.

We have stayed at several vacation homes over the years and this one is at the top of our list for location and charm. There is so much thoughtful attention to details. Thank you for putting up Christmas lights and a tree – it made the cottage perfect for the holidays. We loved the ornament and the treat for our dog. It was a perfect Christmas and birthday celebration. We will recommend this cottage to all our friends! Thank you for an amazing vacation!

Roses are red, violets are blue, had a great time, thanks to you! What a neat place for a long-overdue girls weekend. This was the perfect spot for us, across the street from the beach for short walks in February, comfortable furniture and a neat cozy kitchen area where we could keep on talking and fix each other some treats.

Thank you for letting us enjoy your quaint beach house.(and on such short notice your response time was excellent!) It was the perfect get-away from the city! The size and set-up is something my husband and I dream of in a beach house! Simple but well thought out. We walked down the road to a small simple playground with our two children by the beach and watched the sunset over the Olympic mountains. This little community really makes you feel like you are on an Island. We fished a little and found many crabs under rocks. We heard birds all day and frogs at night. In the morning, the crab fishermen were out. Perfect. ____ Please note: one bedroom is upstairs and one is down. My family slept upstairs with my two girls on a fold out couch. They did well. My mother slept downstairs with easy access to the bathroom and kitchen (and to wake up early without disturbing the kids).

We had a great stay here: quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Exactly what we needed. Everything was lovely and the beach was amazing -- we took many a long walk when the tide was out. We also had a wonderful time sitting in front of the fireplace doing puzzles, playing games, and reading. We'd absolutely come back for a second visit some day.

We had a fantastic time at this unique, beautifully decorated cottage. It reminds you of simpler times, at the same time you'll find everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. It's fun to discover all the little things & details that make this place so unique & comfortable. We expected the property to be right on the beach, it's across the street (very quiet!), just a short walk to the park & long-stretched beach. Amazing views from the cottage, especially the loft upstairs. Enjoyed cooking in this very well stocked kitchen. Lots of choices for inside/outside sitting/eating areas. Staying there with a toddler we liked the fenced in back yard. Short drive to Langley (restaurants, shopping, supermarket). One day we took the ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend (walked on, parked the car at the ferry terminal), and we went to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle on a rainy day taking the car onto the ferry from Clinton. Perfect for families. Wireless Internet worked very well. Easy communication with owner. We're already planning another stay there two months from now!

This is an adorable cottage! Lots of charming details and a great space for 2 adults & 1 kid. Our kid loved playing in the yard. The kitchen was well stocked. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was on the beach, but it's a very short walk across the street to the beach. We would definitely return.

About the owner: We live in Houston, so unfortunately we don't get to spend as much time at our beautiful beach house as we would like. It is impressively taken care of with luxury finishing and incredible style.

Why the Owner Chose Maxwelton Beach:
The beach house is amazing. Many hours have been spent mulling over every piece in on every square foot, and the details are what give it the perfect charm.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
You will love the beach access, the 5 star feeling inside, and the lovely feeling that you have escaped the world for your stay. The neighborhood will make you feel like you are living in a simpler world in a simpler time, or if you choose to keep to yourself you will be lost in your thoughts for days.
