Charming Historic Farmhouse ~ Country Setting, Close to Town

This charming historic farmhouse is in a country setting just one mile from town. There are outstanding views of the valley and mountains from giant windows in the kitchen, dining room and living room. The rooms are very light and airy with a screened-in front porch perfect for breakfast or dinner at sunset. The large yard has easy access to peaceful, scenic walking trails out back. It's the perfect place for a musician, writer or artist retreat with catering available.
Many people have commented that this house with its acre of land could be on a hillside in Tuscany, Italy or Provence, France with its sloping yard, grapevines and fruit trees and awesome mountain views. The house was one of the original farmhouses on Pitkin Mesa, built in the 1920's, and has undergone many renovations including a new heating system.
The neighborhood is peaceful with my neighbors on one side having a small organic farm and on the other side an organic orchard. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, lots of counter space and an adjacent seating area with gorgeous views. There are 3 bedrooms available and 2 1/2 baths. This house is ideal for two couples having one bedroom with a queen-sized bed and full bath downstairs and one bedroom with a king-sized bed (or two twins) and a full bath upstairs. The other bedroom is upstairs and has a queen bed. Each bedroom has its own unique charm with great views. The beds have very good, comfortable mattresses. Sleeps 5.
Paonia is a friendly Western town located along the scenic West Elk Loop on Colorado's western slope.
It's nestled in a beautiful valley beneath 11,400 foot Mt. Lamborn. Great hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and world-class trout fishing are within easy reach. Organic farms and orchards abound here and there is an active local food scene including farm to table events. Local vineyards and wineries offer tours and wine tastings. There is a lively main street with an historic theater, arts center, public radio station, a tiny brew-pub located in a former church, restaurants, and shops. Paonia is a haven for musicians, writers, artists and craftspeople and home of the non-profit Solar Energy International. The town hosts many festivals such as Cherry Days in July and the Mountain Harvest Fest in September. During winter we have a film festival, music at the historic Paradise Theater and events at the Blue Sage Arts Center.
Some of the most spectacular scenery in Colorado is nearby. The Black Canyon National Monument, Grand Mesa, West Elks Scenic Byway, historic mining towns Redstone and Marble, and Kebler and McLure passes are all within an hours drive. Whether relaxing or taking in the sights this is an area of Colorado that shouldn't be missed.

Beautiful Views and Perfectly Located for Day Trips!

Annie's home and grounds were the perfect respite for my daughter and me last summer as we traveled to the Rockies from Illinois on our last vacation before my daughter left for college. Annie's "home away from home" was perfect in so many ways - large open clean rooms, fully-equipped kitchen, quiet setting, and spectacular views. Her location in Paonia was perfectly suited for our day trips to Aspen, Telluride, Ouray, and Crested Butte. Between day trips, days spent at Annie's home were complete with morning walks through the quiet streets of Paonia and up on the mesa. We particularly enjoyed dining out for lunch at Delicious Orchards and dinner at the Flying Fork, both of which serve delicious fresh and organic meals. My daughter and I will remember that trip always, especially our evenings on the porch watching the sky and mountains change color with the setting sun.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I have a group of friends who regularly enjoy spending a few days together on a meditation retreat in Colorado. Annie's place is the perfect combination of creature comforts and a relaxing, peaceful setting. The views make you feel like you're in some idyllic village in the south of France! We're booking for next year...Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

About the owner: I moved to Paonia because of it's wonderful organic food, friendly people and phenomenal scenic beauty. As a vegetarian chef and teacher, the food component is very important to me. I grew up in the Northeast so I really appreciate the climate here... lots of sunshine. I love the West!
Why the Owner Chose Paonia:
I love the trees on this property, a big Chinese Elm, old lilac bushes, the grapevines and fruit trees. And the views are spectacular.
The walking or cross-country ski trails right out back are a big bonus. And the views are spectacular ~(it's not a mistake I keep repeating that)~
It's very peaceful up here on the mesa but it's nice to be only a mile from town where there's a new library, public radio station, historic theater, arts center and you can pick up just about anything you need without leaving town - and the shopkeepers are all so friendly and helpful. Who needs Walmart... not Paonians.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
An old-fashioned screened-in front porch, where there's a table and chairs for dining and a couch for napping or relaxing, is a great space for breakfast or dinner. During winter, the big picture window in the dining room makes you feel like you're outdoors. Big windows and southeastern exposures mean lots of light in the house all year.
