We stayed at this lovely French country farmhouse located in Carves, in the township of Belvès (part of the district of Sarlat-la-Canéda). During our stay the weather was a little chilly but the owners thought of everything to make a blustery day feel warm and cozy. The central heating throughout the home, plus the cozy fireplace and soft beds with plenty of warm blankets meant we never had to feel anything but warm and relaxed. Even though the weather wasn't conducive to kayaking along the Dordogne river, we took many long walks throughout the region which was breathtaking in its green scenery, dotted with little towns and places to shop for local breads, chevre, and wine for an elegant picnic any time of day. Ton and Renee were very friendly, helpful, and always available for questions. They provided us with an orientation to the property. They also provided us with lots of good information about activities to do in the area, where to get groceries, and where the markets were and on which days. The home itself was immaculate and offered everything you could want for a stress-free vacation to one of the most beautiful areas in Europe. Many upgrades had recently been made while still preserving the old country farmhouse charm that sets it apart from the cookie-cutter properties that could be anywhere in the world. When you're staying here, you know you are in the beautiful South Western France in a home with decades of history. Wel loved every minute of our stay and we will be back!!.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, people with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I have rented many vacation rentals, but have never had such a warm and comfortable home. This location is an unbelievable place from which to visit the Dordogne, and even to venture on to Bordeaux and the Lot. From the 400 year old beams to the brand new deck (designed in the old style of no nails, mortise and tenon construction) the home exudes charm and comfort. The guest house was perfect, private yet right next to the main house so we had plenty of "alone" and group space. The huge fireplace offers cozy fires yet there are the modern convenience of a complete heating system, washer , internet access with wifi, and even a tv (though it was off all the time since there was so much to do just hanging out!) Up the street is the best Chèvre i've ever tasted! And the property managers (Ton & Rinnie) are close at hand, speak perfect English, Dutch and French, and were available to show us around the house and answered all questions immediately...totally awesome! Don't come here if you're looking to be entertained, but if you're looking for a tranquil and beautiful experience of "old" SW france...this is your spotRecommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: One clarification: Although we have explored many different locales from our home, Bordeaux is approximately two hours drive...just so you know!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1975
About the owner: Kristi and I were born and raised in central California. We have lived in Big Sur, CA (Monterey Peninsula) 40+ years. We have three children and three grand children. We absolutely love our ancient stone cottage in Carves, the heart of the Dordogne, as the english speaking call the area. The french refer to this area as the Perigord Noir, famous for their fois gras, truffles, goat cheese (chevre) and all products of duck.
Why the Owner Chose Belves:
My mother bought this property as a ruin in 1975 and lovingly restored it to the warm and cozy home it is today.
She deeded the property to us in 1999 (we are truly blessed).
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Our favorite part of this home is that our neighbors make the absolutely best award winning chevre (goat cheese) in all of France...I have sampled it throughout other parts of the country and nothing beats it's quality. I didn't even like the stuff until I tried their's now I can't get enough! All the food there is a true delight. Considering the food, scenery, history, pre-history, rivers and valleys and patchwork farms and medieval stone villages and castles and prehistoric caves
we never grow tired of the area and we spend 6-8 weeks there every year for the past 20 years.
