This is old Highlands at its best! Just a short walk to Mirror Lake, a three-minute drive to downtown Highlands, and waterfalls and hiking trails in every direction, you can explore Highlands and the Appalachians at your own pace. Highlands is truly an oasis in the south. Perched on a plateau at 4000 feet, you will enjoy cool summer evenings, beautiful autumn colors and quiet, peaceful winters.
This Mirror Lake cottage was built in 1937, but has been updated with all modern amenities. High ceilings, large windows and hardwood floors throughout. The house is comfortably furnished with an eclectic array of art, antiques, and other non-traditional cabin furniture collected by the owner.
Dine alfresco on the bi-level deck in the large private backyard. Your dogs will be secure in the fully-fenced yard. It is level, and surrounded on either side with rhododendron and hemlocks. There is also an outdoor dining table in the front yard with huge hemlocks and rhodos.
We do not use pesticides or herbicides in the yard or in and around the house.
Feed the ducks and geese on nearby Mirror Lake or try your luck with the fishing. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet and a walker's paradise!

This was such a lovely cottage to spend a holiday weekend in. It met our every need. Our small multipoo enjoyed the big yard. We enjoyed the many special comforts of home. The beautiful antiques and artwork just added to a comfortable New Year's for our family. We would love to be back in the summer to enjoy a pleasant golfing trip! Thank you!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners.

Just a quick note to say thank you for a really nice stay we had at your mountain cottage. Jacko, our australian shepherd, really enjoyed your backyard and especially the orange frisbee. We tired him out pretty good Dec. 28 with 4.5 miles of hiking in the mountains. We will be back again! Happy new year 2013!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Duke, Kelly and I had a great time. We found the house perfect for our needs. We appreciated how comfortable a house it is. I had quiet reading time in front of the wood stove. Love having a fire! Your kitchen was generously stocked as well, so that made pulling together a Thanksgiving meal possible. Duke loved the yard, and left bones for the next dog. Thank you for the accommodating dog feeding station and water bowl. All of the elements added to the mellowing feel. Thank you for making such a nice space. Hope we can stay again sometime. We really enjoyed the cottage. It was perfect for us and our dog, Matt. The deck and the backyard were beautiful and picturesque. Matt enjoyed it so much, and we didn't have to worry when he was out there alone. We absolutely loved the sunroom area and spent most of our time in there when we were not out exploring and shopping. Thank you for allowing us to come and celebrate here in your cottage and Highlands for the very first time. We are already planning a return trip just to see all the rhododendron in bloom in your backyard!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful stay at your "Li'l Red Cottage." It was very comfortable and accommodating. Some things specifically: -Location, location, location (we rode our motorcycles over 400 miles! Breathtaking from here to Franklin!) -Garaged the bikes! (so no wet seats) -Beautifully decorated (simple, lovely antiques) -Great yard for Rosy! -Comfortable bed -Fresh linens -Deck was awesome! Thank you a million times! We would love to stay here again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for making our first vacation together a perfect trip. The house, from the fireplace to the comfortable backyard, was perfect for the two of us and Jake. The photos online truly don't do the house justice. Thank you for making our stay easy, comfortable, and memorable. All best,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I loved my stay in your home! As a former longtime permanent resident of Highlands I felt as if I were back in my comfortable former home. The furnishings and artwork are beautiful. I loved the huge private backyard, grilling with family and friends on the deck. Your place is very close to town, in a lovely quiet area with utmost privacy. I will definitely be back next summer! Thank you.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
