Creeper trail
We visit the creeper trail every fall and this was the first time we stayed at this property. It is in a very nice location — beautiful surroundings and scenery. The property itself was very clean. The only concern was that one of the dogs across the way came up very close to the house and scared a couple of friends of ours! As expected, animals are unleashed out in the country :-),

Alverodo
The cleanest rental I have ever stayed in. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of hot water. Kept in the style of the early 70’s. It was like staying at Grandma’s house.

Fall Getaway
Home was lovely. Clean, comfortable, well equipped. Brought family to enjoy a long weekend and do some hiking. This was the perfect place to enjoy family time, eat meals together, have plenty of space to spread out. Beds very comfortable. Lovely rural area. Very responsive host that thought of everything we could have needed. I would highly recommend this home.

Perfect hideaway
This was the perfect spot for us to stay as my husband ran the Yeti. This cozy place is located less than 5 min from the VA Creeper Trail - Alvarado entrance. While there were only 3 in our party, the house easily could have housed a group of 6. The host even provided coffee (now you will forever hold my heart.). The flowers outside and pumpkins growing along the house brought a smile to my face. We will definitely be looking at staying here again.

About the host

My mother, Carol, grew up in this home. I lived here until I was 9 years old. The house was built in 1954. My grandfather farmed the land and the property is still family owned. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. My parents are both retired and were the sole managers of this vacation rental home until recently. As they are now getting older, I am helping out to manage the property and business with their guidance. I hope you will book our home and stay with us. If you have any questions, just let us know. We will be most happy to answer any questions you might have about the vacation rental or the area in which we are located. Your Hostess, Marcella Blankenship

Why they chose this property

It is a home where children can roam inside and outside. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the shade of large maple trees. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. We have three humming bird feeders which are visited quite frequently and one seed feeder that has a variety of birds visiting it. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls, enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. The children can catch fireflies in the summertime. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whomever travels with you. Three acre of land to roam about.

We have lots of local attractions. Why not plan a 3 or 4 day trip and spend time riding the Creeper Trail, Fishing on the South Holston Lake, Kayaking on the South Fork River, Hiking the beautiful Appalachian Trail, or shopping the unique stores and antique shops in the nearby towns of Abingdon and Damascus.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Appalachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. We are just 2 miles from the Creeper Trail. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, Carter Fold, Bristol Birthplace of Country Music, Nascar Race Track (where lots of things are held beside just the 2 races each year), theatres, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different.

The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam. Also in the basement is a small laundry room and a place to hang your fishing equipment, park your bicycles, coolers, etc.. Another thing that children or teenagers enjoy is the room downstairs with 2 double beds plus a very unique and different closet. They have referred to this as their own pad. I have found in the closet a pillow and a sham where some little fellow has taken a nap. It was so sweet and brings back lots of memories.

The reason I named it Alvarado Vacation Home is that I want everyone to feel like this is their home away from home. All the leisure of home but not having to clean but just having a lot of fun. A good place also for a homecoming or get together with family who might live in the area. Come stay with us for a week-end, few days in the week, or maybe a week or two.
