Sunspot is a large duplex with each side available for rent. This unit, 'Sunrise', sleeps 12. The other unit, 'Sunset' unit sleeps 10. (See VRBO #41949) See all Sunspot Guest Reviews at #41949.
The units are side by side, and are a mirror image of each other, with slightly different decor and bed configurations. Sunrise has a Native American theme, while Sunset has a cowboy theme.
Each 2-story unit contains 1800sf and is comprised of 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Each bath has an additional sink area outside the full bathroom. Both of the units have separate entrances from the common entry. Rented together, both units provide generous accommodations for family reunions, wedding parties, etc.
The common area between the two units serves as the main winter entrance (each unit also has its own sliding glass doors that access south facing decks, for summertime enjoyment). The common entry area is comprised of the boot room (benches and shelving for boots and ski gear), hot tub, sauna, half bath, stall shower, and laundry facilities. The ski lockers are located just outside the common area entrance.
Sunspot is one of the closest private homes near the base area available for rent. It is located across Mt. Werner Circle from The Steamboat Grand Hotel, 2 blocks to the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Hall, 2 blocks to Ski Time Square & Torian Plaza, and 3 blocks to the Gondola and to the Christie lifts.
Sunspot is situated on a two acre private wooded homesite. We are removed from the high density impact of condo-ville, but are still located closer to the base area than most other rentals. Here you will find lots of birds, fox, and deer. Our garden path leads you through our small forest and on to the city bike path. A two-block stroll on the bike path then connects you to the Steamboat mountain resort base area.
The Sunspot duplex has a parking lot for 6 cars (3 spaces for each unit). Please contact us if you will be bringing an oversized vehicle (i.e. snowmobile trailer, etc.) as there may be no space available. Steamboat has strict overnight on-street parking restrictions in the winter. Steamboat has free bus service throughout the entire mountain village and into downtown (3 miles to the west on Hwy 40). The bus stops right across the street from Sunspot.
Sunspot is a family-oriented property. Our 3 generations of family love spending time here. After a great day of skiing in the winter, or fishing/biking in the summer, you will usually find us gathered around the big table for a great meal and a competitive game of cards afterwards. While you won't find all the luxuries of an upscale property, we pride ourselves on providing an affordable home that allows families the ability to spend time together in the year-round beauty of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains .

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sunrise duplex. It has 9 individual beds which was great for our group (3 queen, 3 sets of twin bunks). The location was good, 5-7 minute walk to the gondola in ski boots. The decor is older than some of the places, but I wouldn't change a thing, this is what enables the owner to maintain such a reasonable rate. One complaint: the stairs were a disaster and danger to our health. They had 3-4" of ice on them and there are about 40 long steps to the driveway. The owner says they purposely leave 1" of snow for traction, but we had 4" of pure ice. Even with extremely careful descents down the stairs, we had 4 or 5 falls during our stay, luckily, no major injuries.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We rented both units and I placed my review in the other unit but it holds for both. The place is perfect for large groups of families and kids, is reasonably priced and across street from ski shuttle. Everything was great and we will return if schedule allows next year. The steps up to the entrance do get icy/snowy so folks with issues walking, etc may want to consider this. The owner and manager are great and helpful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Location
Owner info
About the owner: The Beard family is from Fort Collins, CO - just 3 hours away. In 1969, we bought a condo along with this lot when Steamboat had only two lifts. You might say we 'saw it coming'. When our four kids hit middle school, we always had an additional friend or two up skiing with us. We then realized we needed more space. In 1978, we sold the condo and built our ski house 'Sunspot'. Since the lot was zoned for a duplex we designed a building that would last us into future generations. Our family has grown to 19 and we have plenty of room for everyone to stay in the same house. Now most of the grandchildren are in college. If our group is down to ten we will only take one unit and share the other side with our customers.
Why the Owner Chose Clock Tower:
Location - Location - Location!
This lot is really in the heart of the ski area. We have always walked to/from the lifts. With younger kids, we carry their skis and they carry the poles.
In the summer we can bike everywhere from Sunspot. Whether it is up the gondola for mountain biking, or a cruise along the river into town on the bike trail - our location is unbeatable.
Sunspot is comfortable and accommodating for families. We're sure you'll love it as much as our family.
Our lot is on a hillside with lots of steps so you will have a mountain experience.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
'Pride of ownership' means lots of painting a upgrading. We paint a while then go for a hike, then lay some tile and go fishing. Just working on the fence in the middle of our lot is filled with wild flowers, sage smells, aspen and pine. But above all Sunspot is great for families and friends to gather and then go their different ways. We deliberately keep our rating at economy so that families can afford to go to the mountains. We have a lot of cowboy and indian art work but no expensive furnishings or counter tops. Steamboat Home Rental lic. VHR-08-14 + VHR-08-14A
