A Great Place to Stay

We have stayed in Inverness several times in the past when visiting Pt. Reyes, but this home was far superior to other places. The views of Tomales Bay were wonderful, and the house was very well maintained. It was very spacious, with enough room for three generations to hang out. If you like to cook, this place has almost anything you could possibly want for cooking, baking and grilling. The kitchen was easy for two to work in and also had great views. There were plenty of fresh spices in the cupboard, and virtually all the implements a good cook could want in the drawers. Later in the season when the weather is warmer, the large deck overlooking the Bay would be a lovely place to spend time. As it turned out, the fireplace with plenty of wood was an added bonus on the cool spring nights. The city of Point Reyes Station is a few miles away, and has everything a vacationer could want; a great bakery, an incredibly well stocked grocery store, an eclectic bookstore and a pharmacy, (which was very helpful when we realized we had forgotten one of our prescriptions). PRS also has a couple of very nice restaurants, along with a positively funky diner. A few miles further is the Tomales Bay Oyster Company, a great source for fresh oyster and mussels. The owner was a pleasure to work with and very helpful both before we arrived and while we were there.I would definitley recommend this property to friends and family. In fact the family members that were with us also plan to rent the Cliff House in the future. When we return to Pt. Reyes, we definitely plan to stay at the Cliff House. It was everything that was promised, and more.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I arranged a weekend away at the Cliff House with my friends to celebrate birthdays and our friendship. I could not have picked a better place. We all live in the Bay Area and the location is perfect, we felt like we got out of town, but only had to drive an hour. There were five of us overnight and several joined us for Saturday to hike, see the elk, walk on the beach and even spotted an otter and of course dinner. The weather was perfect and the accommodations were perfect. Everything worked, the house was clean, there was plenty of bedrooms. The view was outstanding from the living area and we all felt so comfortable and relaxed. What a setting. We had drinks Friday night in Inverness, and dinner in Point Reyes Saturday night. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for a minute. I thank the owners for their ease in working details out. This is definitely a spot to return to.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at Cliff House was everything we had hoped for when we made the reservation. Lovely location, cozy lodgings, a well-equipped kitchen and house. We were an extended family totaling five--a pair of sixty-somethings with a pair of twenty-something daughters and one partner. The house's three bedrooms accommodated us perfectly, the wi-fi connection was good, and the living/dining room was everything we wanted for our shared house-time. And although we were there in the winter (with two of our four days featuring steady rain), the house's large and easily accessible deck would have been a great treat in good weather. Nice fireplace too! Problems were absolutely minimal. The key's lock-box was stubborn, the guest instructions didn't warn us to open the fireplace flue before lighting it, and our chief cook said the kitchen could use a better vegetable scraper. That's it. For activities, we visited Pt. Reyes lighthouse (gray skies but no gray whales), did a nice beach walk at McClure's Beach, and walked from Cliff House to Shell Beach on the shore of Tomales Bay. There were flocks of interesting ducks visible from Shell Beach and lots of Acorn woodpeckers on the walk down and back, and good seabirds (no surprise!) in the National Seashore. Shopping for food near the house (Inverness and Point Reyes Station) was easy though expensive. We enjoyed a visit to the Cowgirl Creamery, which makes very good locally sourced cheeses, and had an excellent family dinner at Osteria Stellina. Again, not inexpensive, but both were well worthwhile. And there were a number of other restaurants we'd have liked to try. The house's resource book had lots of menus to help us find our way. We enjoyed the house and area through four cold wet days of California's rainy season, and would recommend it to others without any hesitation.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

I have been going to the Cliff House at different times of the year for many years now. I am always happy to arrive and terribly sad to leave. The house is warm and inviting, the deck is sunny (sometimes I don't want to move from it), the view is beautiful. The house is close to hiking trails, Drake's Beach, Tomales Bay, Shell Beach, Point Reyes Station as well as to the town of Inverness. I feel like it's my home away from home and I hope to continue to stay there for many years to come! The property is clean, well-maintained, the owners are friendly and helpful, the photos look like the house, and I've already recommended it to friends and family.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
