Dear Friends,
We have a hidden jewel waiting for you in Cheboygan, the Mc Intosh Solitude Lodge. It is a newly-built but very rustic Log Cabin overlooking the straits area of Lake Huron. It's about ten minutes east of town and right on US Hwy 23.
The winding 450 foot road that takes you to the cabin through beautiful woods affords privacy and envelops you in Nature! When you arrive, it looks like any other log cabin, but one look inside the door and you will be amazed at the solid-wood (knotty-pine and cedar) interior. The bathrooms have 6 x 10 inch solid cedar beams in them; they will make you think you are in a sauna! Rustic in spades...
There are four bedrooms, one of which is a bunk room with two twin beds, one's a loft with a queen bed and a view to die for. The other two have VERY comfortable full beds in them and wonderful appointments all over the place.
You can view the lodge in greater detail by going to our link listed below. The button is at the bottom of this listing. There are lots of different pictures and there is a floor plan for the 2,200 square foot lodge so that you can see how the cabin would accommodate your group.
The rate info on that site is very old, and will soon be updated to match our current numbers, to be posted mid-August. There are two beautiful porches, the front looks out on deep woods and a bonfire pit for evenings and smores, the back porch looks out over an ever-changing panorama of one of THE great views of the great lakes!
There's lots of taxidermy all over the place, but let us know if your pet is going to have it out with the black bear standing up over the phone in the great room, Dale can relocate it easily. He and his wife Melody are terrific resources!
Who goes to the McIntosh Solitude Lodge? Mostly, it's families for reunions, but it has been the site for wedding festivities, and we also host a lot of people looking for an off-the-beaten-path and/or romantic nest to spend some quality time with their mate.
But the real common thread of guests is the desire to get away from it all and spend some time immersed in peace, quiet and nature's realm! A SPLENDID way to recharge one's fortitude and calm.
The cabin is about 400 feet from the water, and the sound of the waves at night will lull you to sleep very quickly! The trail down to the beach is a wonderful one-minute nature walk, the beach stretches far into the distance in either direction with virtually no development or people on it. There is one pair of cabins to the east about 500 feet, but they can't be seen.
There is a seasonal 80 foot pier out into Lake Huron, and a dock further out perhaps 50 feet or so, for tying up boats. There are two canoes for personal use or to use as ferries to go out and get boat guests!
The pier and dock are perfect for sunning, reading a book in a beach chair, and hopping into the crystal clear waters whenever you want. Lots of amenities are nearby, you probably know most or all of them, but what you might not know is that there is a great full-service hospital less that 15 minutes away, people up in Northern Michigan small towns are really friendly, and there are TERRIFIC things to do there at ANY time of the year. Lots of, make that most, people like to hang out in the 5-person HOT TUB OVERLOOKING THE LAKE, relaxing and having great conversations!

Best wishes from us both, we would love to hear from you anytime! Sincerely,
Tom and Eve Mc Intosh

We gladly accept only personal checks or certified US funds. After reviewing the rates below, please call the Owner, we ARE flexible, somewhat!

P.S. At the discretion of the owners, if your pet(s) causes damage to the lodge or makes extra work for the cleaning gal, there will be a reasonable fee taken out of the security deposit.

    • We spent a week at the lodge. It is everything the web-site says plus more. The views are fabulous. We spent hours sitting on the back porch just enjoying the sounds of the water, watching the boats and birds and looking at the gorgeous view. The pictures are absolutely correct. We enjoyed our stay so very much!

    • Well we just came back from a pre-Christmas family trip at the McIntosh Lodge. I have to say that we loved it! Our family tries to find a place to relax and enjoy nature once in a while. I found this cabin to be very relaxing even in winter! It isn't too big or too small but it was the perfect size for four or even 6 people. The only drawback was the sat dish for the tv, some channels would go in and out, but then again, this was not meant to be an entertainment venture via the tv...lol! Overall this was a beautiful place that isn't hard to find right off the waters of Lake Huron. I can't wait to come back in the summer or even fall when you can throw a campfire and warmth in the mix:) Good times, quiet surroundings, and overall a great place to recharge your batteries. Happy Lodging!! Jason M.

    • This post is almost two years past due. What a wonderful suprise to bring my new bride to this peaceful cabin for our honeymoon. We enjoyed the October colors and the sound of the water through our bedroom window. Thanks for helping us make our first memories together in our new life.

    • We stayed at the McIntosh Solitude Lodge during a week in July of 2006. Did my family and our life long friends enjoy our time here you wonder? Let me paint you a mental picture. I arose early, as is my habit, and walked out onto the 40 ft. front porch of the Solitude Lodge. As I sipped a cup of freshly brewed "Starbucks" coffee provided by the owners in our gift basket, a gental breeze caused the first rays of the new day sun to dance from leaf to leaf as they filered through the trees on my right. My picture is framed at the bottom and on both sides by a dense birch, hardwood, and pine forest teeming with the sights and sounds of a variety of beautiful woodland birds. As uplifting as that is, I am compelled to focus on the center of this canvas. There, perched some 60 to 70 ft. above the shore, is the commanding lodge view of the great lake know as Huron! The clear blue-green waters stretch north, as far as the eye can see, towards Michigan's wild and beautiful 'Upper Peninsula". As I sat there counting the many blessings of my life, especially family and friends, the sounds of the lake waves washing ashore were interwoven with the cry of a gull soaring through the picture and the distant low tone of a foghorn near Bois Blanc Island. As if this wasn't enought to stir my soul, suddenly a hummingbird appeared and buzzed for some 20 seconds around a multicolored kite I had hanging on the porch. Moments later, a wild turkey gobbled close by to my right. Then within minutes, the unmistakable haunting call of a loon entered the frame from the left. Just as I thought the picture was complete, a flock of Blue Heron flew silently through the upper canvas and the "genius" of our Creator was foremost in my mind. I suddenly knew that this was a moment in time I would forever remember! No people, I am not making this stuff up. This is Northern Michigan at some of its finest and this was only our second day there! Did we like it here you ask? Oh Yah! You'll find yourself looking out onto this beautiful canvas and a thought will start forming in your mind. When can we come back? Note: The best swimming bar none, is located at Cheboygan State Park only a 7 nimute ride from the lodge. If you are up for a little adventure, use one of the two canoes povided, or bring along a kayak as we did. The early morning or late evening sunrises/sunsets, 1000 ft out from the shoreline, on a great lake so calm it's hard to believe, are memories that will last a life time. Stuart Webb, Marshall, MI

    • I've just returned from staying at the Lodge for 3 nights. I hestitate to comment as I feel I've discovered a rare gem and I want to keep it a secret. This place is beautiful! Clean, cozy, an atmosphere that blended wilderness with great comfort. Plenty to do without ever having to get back into your car. I hope I have the chance to return for a full week soon.

    • We rented McIntaw Lodge for a family time together, including kids and grandkids. We've rented a lot of places around Michigan and Canada, and I have to say that the Lodge was the finest place we have ever rented. The Lodge itself was just beautiful, with the loveliest views from the decks. Sitting in the jacuzzi and watching the sunset was an experience we won't soon forget. It is very conveniently located to Mackinaw Island and even a quick shot across to the west side of the state. McIntaw Lodge provides that rustic, outdoors feel, yet with all of the modern conveniences that make a family vacation with children a relaxing time for everyone. Can't say enough good things about it. We hope to be back again.

    • Bar none, this was the most fantastic place our family has ever enjoyed. We hit the prime colors in fall, and I caught the biggest King Salmon of my life. The cabin was absolutely perfect. Everything described on the website is true, but it can't truly convey what a beautiful home and setting is there. The McIntoshes are very gracious hosts, and the caretakers could not have been nicer. Our boys came along, and we had an amazing family vacation. On a scale of 1 to 10, our experience was a 15.
