Dear Friends,
There is a hidden jewel waiting for you in Cheboygan, MI. The Mc Intosh Solitude Lodge is a rustic Log Cabin/Lodge, beautifully furnished to make you feel at home, overlooking the straits area of Lake Huron. It's about ten minutes east of town and right on US Hwy 23.
The winding 450 foot road that takes you to the cabin through beautiful woods affords privacy and envelops you in Nature! When you arrive, it looks like any other log cabin, but one look inside the door and you will be amazed at the solid-wood (knotty-pine and cedar) interior. The bathrooms have 6 x 10 inch solid cedar beams in them; they will make you think you are in a sauna!
There are four bedrooms, one of which is a bunk room with two twin beds. The master suite is a loft with a queen bed, private bath, a view of the lake and a private balcony. The other two have VERY comfortable full beds in them. Sheets, towels, blankets, are provided. Many people enjoy hanging out in the 5 person hot tub on the lower level, overlooking the wooded path to the lakefront, great for stargazing, relaxing, conversation.

You can view the lodge in greater detail by going to our link listed below. The button is at the bottom of this listing. There are many different pictures and a floor plan for the 2,200 square foot lodge so that you can see how the cabin would accommodate your group.
There are two wonderful porches. The front looks out on deep woods and a bonfire pit for evenings and s'mores. The back porch looks out over an ever-changing panorama of Lake Huron one of THE great views of the great lakes! Sunsets are an added feature from this porch.
Let us know if your pet is going to have it out with the black bear standing up over the phone in the great room. There are several pieces of taxidermy throughout the lodge. Dale, the caretaker, can relocate it easily. He and his wife Melody are terrific resources!
Who goes to the McIntosh Solitude Lodge? It's families for vacation or for family reunions, it's for friends to spend time together, for couples looking for a romantic getaway or just a place to relax and restore their spirit. Special occasions seem to be a popular reason to visit McIntosh Solitude Lodge, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. It has also been the site for wedding festivities. Long weekends, short getaways, family vacations, honeymoons, any time of the year. Something for everybody can be found at this hide-away in the woods.
In the fall you can treat yourself to the breath taking colors as the leaves change and the air grows cooler. The lodge takes on a whole new personality in the winter. Come enjoy the warm and cozy view while sitting in front of the fireplace. Its a winter wonder land. In the spring watch the trees turn green and the woodland wild flowers bloom.
The real common thread is the desire to get away from it all and spend some time immersed in peace, quiet and nature's realm! It's a SPLENDID way to recharge and de-stress.
The cabin is about 400 feet from the water, and the sound of the waves at night will lull you to sleep very quickly! The trail down to the beach is a wonderful one-minute nature walk, the beach stretches far into the distance in either direction with virtually no development or people on it. There is one pair of cabins to the east about 500 feet, but they can't be seen.
There is a seasonal 80 foot pier out into Lake Huron. There are three canoes for personal use or to use as ferries to go out and get boat guests!
The pier and dock are perfect for sunning, reading a book in a beach chair, or hopping into the crystal clear waters whenever you want. There are many amenities nearby. There is a great full-service hospital less that 15 minutes away. While we hope you will not need the facility its nice to know its there if you should. People up in Northern Michigan small towns are really friendly. Restaurants and stores in the nearby towns afford you several choices. There are TERRIFIC things to do there at ANY time of the year.

We accept only personal checks or certified US funds. Our new rates went into effect Sept. 1, 2011. In an attempt to be fair to our guests we try to book reservations on a first come/first served basis. Because of the increasing popularity of our lodge we often get several requests for the same date. We suggest if you have a specific date in mind, for a special occasion, set in stone vacation time or other factor that would limit your time available, that you contact us as soon as possible to insure that your time will not be taken by someone else. We will be happy to work with you to secure your special date, confirmed by the receipt of the first half of the rental fee. The second half of the rental fee and the $500 security deposit need to arrive 3-4 weeks prior to your arrival date.

At the discretion of the owners, if your pet(s) causes damage to the lodge or makes extra work for the cleaning gal, there will be a reasonable fee taken out of the security deposit. Please note late departure fee !

Best wishes ! -from your hosts at the McIntosh Solitude Lodge. We hope to hear from you soon. Please call with any questions:

Why the Owner Chose Cheboygan

We bought this cabin in this location almost solely by virtue of the incredible nature of the cabin itself.... I and each of my 3 kids went out looking in Michigan on a weekend, first two times we saw LOTS of places, put in a bid on one on Torch lake, but that was [fortunately] turned down. Third time's the charm!!! My son Jeffrey and I went up on a cold Sunday in Feb. of 2001 and I went in... It's an exceptional and long story, but long/short of it, I was in the cabin for probably about 30 seconds when I decided to buy the cabin, regardless of cost! This fact resonates easily with anyone who's visited the cabin.... enough said.

The Unique Benefits at this Lodge

Solitude, peace and quiet, recharging my personal batteries and just relaxing and doing whatever I want to do.... away from all of the rest of the world. In a place with natural amenities that you can't find in almost any other rental site in Michigan or elsewhere.

Owner's Map of Cheboygan

Yup, that's me on the right, Mr. McIntosh.... the other is my friend Carl that I've known since 1963..... I am an anesthetist for the Cleveland Clinic, I love to build things, travel, spend time at the cabin and get out to see my family on the west coast. Do have a fondness for med. rare steaks and high-end red wine, but we won't go on about that..... I have 3 "almost adult " kids: Michael 24, Jeffrey 22, and Sarah 18. Pretty average American family from Shaker Heights, Ohio, former home of Paul Newman, among others!

Northwoods Seclusion

This property is awesome! The pictures really don't do justice to the interior or the view. From the taxidermy to the pictures on the walls, it's practically like a museum of natural history- fantastic. Beautiful log furniture, gas fireplace, full length covered porches front and back- the works. The lakefront is great, especially if you have any "rock hounds" along. Lots of fossils if you have the patience to look. The kids really enjoyed the game room, and also watching the freighters pass by. We'll be back.

Owner response:Thanks, Dr. Dan for your kind words... you have said what we can't say because we are biased.... but it's true! Tom & Eve

Wonderful family get-together spot

Guest: Larry Ulrich
Date of Stay: 08/07/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

Our three generations enjoyed the forest seclusion but also daytrips to Mackinac Island and Fort Michilimackinac, interesting historical fun destinations only a half an hour away. Closer, the expansive sandy beaches of the roadside park a mile further east and at Cheboygan State Park were great for the little ones; they fed the sea gulls there. Staying put, over the week we watched the changing moods and freighters of the mighty Lake Huron over coffee cups on the long back porch and explored the natural stony beach. The granddaughters looked for fossils in the stones, and the 30-something dads launched canoes from the new pier on calmer days. Air hockey, PacMan, and the pool table provided ample activity on our one blustery rainy day. Very peaceful to go to sleep with the lull of the surf through open windows. The lodge was nicely appointed and the granddaughters were fascinated with the taxidermy. Tom and the local caretaker were great to work with. Coming away with fine memories.

2-4/11 - 2/06/11 What an incredible place. It is gorgeous, pristine, quiet, comfortable and relaxing. It was a wonderful time in every way for our my daughter's 17th birthday and for myself. None of us wanted to go back home, even though it was only 15 miles away! There was everything to do for every age. Hot tub, pool table, even Ms.PacMan arcade game. The view was beautiful. Thank you Tom and Eve. Diana Isard, Sara and the gang

Just what we were looking for!

Guest: Jim and Chrys (Elida, OH)
Date of Stay: 05/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

Our stay at the Solitude Lodge was perfect in every way! My husband and I and 3 adult children had only one week to spend together this summer. Our week here was so relaxing and provided the beauty and atmosphere that's hard to find anywhere else. The cabin was roomy but cozy, rustic but brimming with modern conveniences and super clean but homey. Though the walk down to the beach was much longer than the advertised "minute," the feeling of seclusion, fabulous sunsets, and view from the porch were all the icing on the cake and worth every step. Tom was so personable and easy to work with, and the welcome basket and endless supply of Culligan water were so appreciated. Thanks, Tom and Eve, for opening your cabin for us to enjoy. We WILL be back!

To:Tom and Eve Lance and I enjoyed our stay at your beautiful cabin getaway in May. I can't believe how much we have fallen in love with the Great Lakes and the area. The cabin was perfect and we enjoyed our coffee and breakfast on the back porch and the amazing view. The towels and all the amenities were top notch. Lance loved the little coffe grounder and we had to purchase our own when we got back. I look at out amazing pictures once a week and want to come back very soon. Everything was so easy to arrange with Tom and you both are such gracious hosts. We can't wait to come back and I have recommended the cabin to 2 co-workers for their trip to Nothern Michigan. We can't wait to bring our son back with us the next tome we come. I'm ready to move to Michigan right now. Thanks for everything!! Joella and Lance

Family Memories that will last a lifetime.

Guest: Harry (Fishers, Indiana)
Date of Stay: 10/24/07 Review Submitted: 06/22/10

It has been almost 3 years since we took a fall break getaway with the kids and went to the McIntosh's cabin. We became closer as a family that week! We have taken family trips to Gatlinburg,Disney World and Yellowstone, but all 4 of us still talk about our "best vacation ever" as the one we spent at the cabin in Cheboygan. We had the beach to ourselves, made s'mores by the campfire, we climbed rocks and canoed on the lake. We took a day-trip over to Mackinac Island, where if you really want to create family togetherness choose to rent tandem bikes while touring the island and sampling the fudge! The views from the cabin are amazing as you look out over the lake, and the images will stay with you for a lifetime. The decor is rustic and authentic and is just what a cabin should be. We felt like it was brand new and that we must had been the first people to ever stay there, as it was so nice and clean. Dealing with Tom McIntosh was like talking with a friend and we felt totally at ease with our decision to rent. I found myself thinking of my family today and of what a wonderful time we had and the next thing I knew I was looking at pictures of the cabin and dreaming of planning our next visit!

Perfect spot for families with older children

Guest: Brodie (Ann Arbor)
Date of Stay: 08/24/08 Review Submitted: 09/06/08

We just returned from fantastic week at the McIntosh lodge. It was a real treat to be secluded in the woods overlooking the lake. The view is amazing and we didn't see another person the entire time we were there. The cottage is very well equipped for families and the layout is perfect. The adults could visit upstairs while the kids played downstairs in the game room. We enjoyed swimming and canoeing on the lake and morning coffee out on the deck. The beach is very rocky, so water shoes are a must. The stars are amazing from the beach at night - definitely check it out! We're hoping to return next summer. Amy
