A Beautiful Cabin

Guest: lighthousemusic (Jackson MI)
Date of Stay: 04/15/12 Review Submitted: 04/23/12

This is a great spot for relaxing. The view is spectacular, the cabin gorgeous, and just right a couple or a small group to relax in. We espcially appreciated the hard work the "sexton" put into keeping everything running this early in the season. We'll be back!

Great family getaway

Guest: Cindy D. (Chelsea, Michigan)
Date of Stay: 04/03/12 Review Submitted: 04/10/12

My family decided to vacation up north instead of going south for spring break. We really needed some time to relax and connect and this was the perfect place for it. What a beautiful cabin and the view of Lake Huron from the back deck was incredible. Each day we walked down to the lake and collected rocks, sat on the deck and read, cooked, and ended each day with a soak in the hot tub while looking at the spectacular view. We brought toys for our kids, 7 and 4. Unfortunately, our son wasn't feeling well during our stay but he was content to watch TV, play with his new Legos, and sit in the hot tub. We'd love to stay again. Thanks Tom and Sue!

Exactly What We Needed

Guest: Christine (Sandusky, MI )
Date of Stay: 02/24/12 Review Submitted: 03/08/12

My Husband and I arrived during a nasty winter storm only to open the door to the lodge and instantly felt at home. The all wood interior emits a warmth that reaches in to your soul as to say " please, come in and relax". That is exactly what we did. We were looking for a weekend retreat that would rejuvinate us through relaxation and quiet. It worked. I am looking forward to returning this summer for a longer stay and to enjoy the water and views even more. Thank you for opening your little piece of heaven to us and making us feel so welcome.

Wonderful family get-together spot

Guest: Larry Ulrich
Date of Stay: 08/07/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

Our three generations enjoyed the forest seclusion but also daytrips to Mackinac Island and Fort Michilimackinac, interesting historical fun destinations only a half an hour away. Closer, the expansive sandy beaches of the roadside park a mile further east and at Cheboygan State Park were great for the little ones; they fed the sea gulls there. Staying put, over the week we watched the changing moods and freighters of the mighty Lake Huron over coffee cups on the long back porch and explored the natural stony beach. The granddaughters looked for fossils in the stones, and the 30-something dads launched canoes from the new pier on calmer days. Air hockey, PacMan, and the pool table provided ample activity on our one blustery rainy day. Very peaceful to go to sleep with the lull of the surf through open windows. The lodge was nicely appointed and the granddaughters were fascinated with the taxidermy. Tom and the local caretaker were great to work with. Coming away with fine memories.

2-4/11 - 2/06/11 What an incredible place. It is gorgeous, pristine, quiet, comfortable and relaxing. It was a wonderful time in every way for our my daughter's 17th birthday and for myself. None of us wanted to go back home, even though it was only 15 miles away! There was everything to do for every age. Hot tub, pool table, even Ms.PacMan arcade game. The view was beautiful. Thank you Tom and Eve. Diana Isard, Sara and the gang

Just what we were looking for!

Guest: Jim and Chrys (Elida, OH)
Date of Stay: 05/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

Our stay at the Solitude Lodge was perfect in every way! My husband and I and 3 adult children had only one week to spend together this summer. Our week here was so relaxing and provided the beauty and atmosphere that's hard to find anywhere else. The cabin was roomy but cozy, rustic but brimming with modern conveniences and super clean but homey. Though the walk down to the beach was much longer than the advertised "minute," the feeling of seclusion, fabulous sunsets, and view from the porch were all the icing on the cake and worth every step. Tom was so personable and easy to work with, and the welcome basket and endless supply of Culligan water were so appreciated. Thanks, Tom and Eve, for opening your cabin for us to enjoy. We WILL be back!

Cabin was perfect and view was amazing

To:Tom and Eve Lance and I enjoyed our stay at your beautiful cabin getaway in May. I can't believe how much we have fallen in love with the Great Lakes and the area. The cabin was perfect and we enjoyed our coffee and breakfast on the back porch and the amazing view. The towels and all the amenities were top notch. Lance loved the little coffe grounder and we had to purchase our own when we got back. I look at out amazing pictures once a week and want to come back very soon. Everything was so easy to arrange with Tom and you both are such gracious hosts. We can't wait to come back and I have recommended the cabin to 2 co-workers for their trip to Nothern Michigan. We can't wait to bring our son back with us the next tome we come. I'm ready to move to Michigan right now. Thanks for everything!! Joella and Lance

Perfect spot for families with older children

Guest: Brodie (Ann Arbor)
Date of Stay: 08/24/08 Review Submitted: 09/06/08

We just returned from fantastic week at the McIntosh lodge. It was a real treat to be secluded in the woods overlooking the lake. The view is amazing and we didn't see another person the entire time we were there. The cottage is very well equipped for families and the layout is perfect. The adults could visit upstairs while the kids played downstairs in the game room. We enjoyed swimming and canoeing on the lake and morning coffee out on the deck. The beach is very rocky, so water shoes are a must. The stars are amazing from the beach at night - definitely check it out! We're hoping to return next summer. Amy

Northwoods Seclusion

Guest: DK (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
Date of Stay: 04/24/08 Review Submitted: 05/06/08

This property is awesome! The pictures really don't do justice to the interior or the view. From the taxidermy to the pictures on the walls, it's practically like a museum of natural history- fantastic. Beautiful log furniture, gas fireplace, full length covered porches front and back- the works. The lakefront is great, especially if you have any "rock hounds" along. Lots of fossils if you have the patience to look. The kids really enjoyed the game room, and also watching the freighters pass by. We'll be back.

Owner response:Thanks, Dr. Dan for your kind words... you have said what we can't say because we are biased.... but it's true! Tom & Eve

Our family of 5 plus 3 dogs, had a wonderful time enjoying "Spring Break" in this lovely home! We felt so relaxed and completely one with nature. It was such a special treat to have the sounds of the waves on gorgeous Lake Huron lull us to sleep every night. Going for early morning and late afternoon walks on what felt like our own private beach wasn't bad either! :>) The home was fully loaded with every amenity we could think of needing in order to feel super comfortable all week. The kids absolutely loved having their own level with so many fun games. We will highly recommend this home and can't wait to go back and visit with friends in the future!!!

Family Memories that will last a lifetime.

Guest: Harry (Fishers, Indiana)
Date of Stay: 10/24/07 Review Submitted: 06/22/10

It has been almost 3 years since we took a fall break getaway with the kids and went to the McIntosh's cabin. We became closer as a family that week! We have taken family trips to Gatlinburg,Disney World and Yellowstone, but all 4 of us still talk about our "best vacation ever" as the one we spent at the cabin in Cheboygan. We had the beach to ourselves, made s'mores by the campfire, we climbed rocks and canoed on the lake. We took a day-trip over to Mackinac Island, where if you really want to create family togetherness choose to rent tandem bikes while touring the island and sampling the fudge! The views from the cabin are amazing as you look out over the lake, and the images will stay with you for a lifetime. The decor is rustic and authentic and is just what a cabin should be. We felt like it was brand new and that we must had been the first people to ever stay there, as it was so nice and clean. Dealing with Tom McIntosh was like talking with a friend and we felt totally at ease with our decision to rent. I found myself thinking of my family today and of what a wonderful time we had and the next thing I knew I was looking at pictures of the cabin and dreaming of planning our next visit!

We spent a week at the lodge. It is everything the web-site says plus more. The views are fabulous. We spent hours sitting on the back porch just enjoying the sounds of the water, watching the boats and birds and looking at the gorgeous view. The pictures are absolutely correct. We enjoyed our stay so very much!

Well we just came back from a pre-Christmas family trip at the McIntosh Lodge. I have to say that we loved it! Our family tries to find a place to relax and enjoy nature once in a while. I found this cabin to be very relaxing even in winter! It isn't too big or too small but it was the perfect size for four or even 6 people. The only drawback was the sat dish for the tv, some channels would go in and out, but then again, this was not meant to be an entertainment venture via the tv...lol! Overall this was a beautiful place that isn't hard to find right off the waters of Lake Huron. I can't wait to come back in the summer or even fall when you can throw a campfire and warmth in the mix:) Good times, quiet surroundings, and overall a great place to recharge your batteries. Happy Lodging!! Jason M.

We stayed at the McIntosh Solitude Lodge during a week in July of 2006. Did my family and our life long friends enjoy our time here you wonder? Let me paint you a mental picture. I arose early, as is my habit, and walked out onto the 40 ft. front porch of the Solitude Lodge. As I sipped a cup of freshly brewed "Starbucks" coffee provided by the owners in our gift basket, a gental breeze caused the first rays of the new day sun to dance from leaf to leaf as they filered through the trees on my right. My picture is framed at the bottom and on both sides by a dense birch, hardwood, and pine forest teeming with the sights and sounds of a variety of beautiful woodland birds. As uplifting as that is, I am compelled to focus on the center of this canvas. There, perched some 60 to 70 ft. above the shore, is the commanding lodge view of the great lake know as Huron! The clear blue-green waters stretch north, as far as the eye can see, towards Michigan's wild and beautiful 'Upper Peninsula". As I sat there counting the many blessings of my life, especially family and friends, the sounds of the lake waves washing ashore were interwoven with the cry of a gull soaring through the picture and the distant low tone of a foghorn near Bois Blanc Island. As if this wasn't enought to stir my soul, suddenly a hummingbird appeared and buzzed for some 20 seconds around a multicolored kite I had hanging on the porch. Moments later, a wild turkey gobbled close by to my right. Then within minutes, the unmistakable haunting call of a loon entered the frame from the left. Just as I thought the picture was complete, a flock of Blue Heron flew silently through the upper canvas and the "genius" of our Creator was foremost in my mind. I suddenly knew that this was a moment in time I would forever remember! No people, I am not making this stuff up. This is Northern Michigan at some of its finest and this was only our second day there! Did we like it here you ask? Oh Yah! You'll find yourself looking out onto this beautiful canvas and a thought will start forming in your mind. When can we come back? Note: The best swimming bar none, is located at Cheboygan State Park only a 7 nimute ride from the lodge. If you are up for a little adventure, use one of the two canoes povided, or bring along a kayak as we did. The early morning or late evening sunrises/sunsets, 1000 ft out from the shoreline, on a great lake so calm it's hard to believe, are memories that will last a

I've just returned from staying at the Lodge for 3 nights. I hestitate to comment as I feel I've discovered a rare gem and I want to keep it a secret. This place is beautiful! Clean, cozy, an atmosphere that blended wilderness with great comfort. Plenty to do without ever having to get back into your car. I hope I have the chance to return for a full week soon.

We rented McIntaw Lodge for a family time together, including kids and grandkids. We've rented a lot of places around Michigan and Canada, and I have to say that the Lodge was the finest place we have ever rented. The Lodge itself was just beautiful, with the loveliest views from the decks. Sitting in the jacuzzi and watching the sunset was an experience we won't soon forget. It is very conveniently located to Mackinaw Island and even a quick shot across to the west side of the state. McIntaw Lodge provides that rustic, outdoors feel, yet with all of the modern conveniences that make a family vacation with children a relaxing time for everyone. Can't say enough good things about it. We hope to be back again.

Bar none, this was the most fantastic place our family has ever enjoyed. We hit the prime colors in fall, and I caught the biggest King Salmon of my life. The cabin was absolutely perfect. Everything described on the website is true, but it can't truly convey what a beautiful home and setting is there. The McIntoshes are very gracious hosts, and the caretakers could not have been nicer. Our boys came along, and we had an amazing family vacation. On a scale of 1 to 10, our experience was a 15.

Last Christmas my family and I stayed at the McIntosh lodge and it was truely one of the nicest holidays that we've had. My 4 children awoke to a soft snow fall and were more excited with the thoughts of building "snowmen and forts" then opening gifts! We are planning another Christmas at the lodge, but this year my brother and his family will join us and experience the warmth and charm of the cabin and the beautiful sight of Lake Huron just outside the family room window! We had a great time and really enjoyed the cottage. Very comfortable and excellent amenities. Very quiet and private... a perfect location. The cabin is filled with some really neat artifacts, maps, National Geographics, vintage games. I could go on and on, but I need to go and stare out at the lake some more. * P.S. You need to find a place for the topographic map of Michigan. I have the exact same one on my library wall at home! We hope to come back here soon! Homeowner note: this entry from july of 2002

The S. family vacation, the year 2003. The hospitality of the lodge, no better could it be. Saw turkeys from the front porch, played cribbage on the back. Lots of family fun, of that there was no lack. The guys they did some fishin', us girls we sure did shop. And all the in-between time, the cards they did not stop. The nanna's mauled the babies, all three of three and under. Tried site-seeing when we could, dodging rain and thunder. Our week here's almost gone, one last night to spend together. The memories that we've made here will always last forever! Homeowner note: entry of 9-21-03... on seeing this I was quite moved! People can be so wonderful.
