Your cottage was exactly what we needed for a break from the city - so quiet & peaceful - exactly what we were looking & hoping for. It was so clean and had everything we needed; we were really able to relax. Thank you so much for making it available & we hope to return. It may become our 'go to' place for quick get-aways.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Came up for our 25th anniversary to play golf at Semiahmoo - didn't want to pay resort prices & this worked out perfect! Thank you Cory for providing your place for those that don't like the hotel experience. Eating suggestions: Semiahmoo Golf Course - dinner Bobs Burger - breakfast & dinner Dees Diner - Breakfast Was not impressed w/ Shores restaurant. The fries were good - fish was not so good. Also they are more expensive than golf course. Golf Course has nice views of water. Best place to watch sunset - Semiahmoo. There is a large 'field'. We drove up to the edge and foound a trail down to the beach. Took the outdoor chairs with us. Saw sea lions and harbor seals at Semiamhoo harbor. Disappointed we didn't see the cat.

Very cozy, homey and you're right...equipped with everything we needed! We enjoyed beachcombing, checking out the local shops (C-Shop is great), dining out, and eating in. And we loved the kitty! What a friendly not-so-little visitor :) We will be back next summer for a longer visit. Thanks so much! P.S. We nick named the cat "kitty Afuera" which I think means 'outside' cat)

We came back for our second stay at the Mermaid Hutch. it was time to visit our son, daugher-in-law and 3 grandkids (aged 5 1/2, 3 1/2 and 15 months) again. Weather cooperated ..meaning ...no rain! but temps varied from quite warm to cool. some nights were warm for sleeping, but really appreciated the fans in cabin and all the windows to have open! Enjoyed Cshop for lunch and walking on the beach (taking a few rocks and seashells home to MPLS!) One of the hightlights was picking raspberries at Barbie's Berry Farm in Lynden area. Made raspberry pie and canned raspberry jam at our son's house. Gotta take jam home with us! We're "cat lovers", so friendly black cat was entertaining. He/she greeted us the first morning as if to say "Welcome to the cabin!" Purrs loudly too. Periodic visits, then a few days of absence...now on our last morning here, kitty is sleeping on one of the cushioned deck chairs ..ready to bid us farewell...until our next visit! We now consider this cabin our home away from home & will stay here each time we visit our kids! Until next time!

Very cute and all the comforts of home. The weather was cold and rainy but it was great to come back to the nice fire & hot chocolate. We had a great time. thank you for the beautiful accomodations. We added to the sand dollar collection and fed the friendly cat. :)

We were pleasantly surprised by the amenities. Our family of 5 had a great time. Lily loved sleeping on the couch and Anna loved all the mermaids. We will be back iin the future! I loved it. I am glad you worked hard for us...Anna

Beautiful cottage with great furnishings! Also loved Birch Bay. Ate at Shores and food was excellent and not expensive. Great to have condiments and other supplies, we have also left a few things for next guests. Laundry facilities would have been great but no big deal. Thanks for a lovely place to stay.

Dear Cory; Thank-you so much for letting us stay at your house. The weather was amazing! Took the teenagers to the water slideds, then all played miniature golf. Campfire on the beach second to last night - It was perfect. We left you a mermaid! :)

Arrangements could not have been easier to secure. Cory was wonderful. The Mermaid Hutch is small, but my husband, our teen-age son and his friend managed just fine! The location is perfect. We were able to walk for ice cream, espresso and to the beach. There were plenty of linens/towels and the kitchen lacked nothing. I would stay here again. The only suggestion I have that would have improved our stay is a screen door. Our weather was beautiful so we wanted the door and windows open. A screen door would have helped keep the local feline out of the house, as my son is allergic to cats!

Owner response: What a great idea. When I am staying there this summer, I will look into a screen door. Guests and my daughter love the neighbourhood cat, but I really don't like it wanting to come in as well! As well as your son, I have repeat past guests that are allergic to pets...and so the No Pets rule. Thanks for the suggestion!

I really can not believe Shelley and I finally made it here! Your sofa beds are very comfy & we slept so so good. We will be hard guests to remove when time to leave! And now Elaiine is here! We brought our own sheets and towels so the only thing we used of yours was the bathroom floor mat. We had a friendly visit from the black cat! Very cute. Thanks again.

So cozy, clean and well appointed. Had plent ofbath towels. Really felt at home, especially at night when we arrived to a toasty cabin waiting for us. having this cute place to ourselves was a welcome treat so close (3 minutes) to where our son,m daughter-in-law a\& our 3 grand kids live...just up the hill on Jackson to Bay Rd & Outrigger Loop. Our 5 yr. old granddaughter had fun looking for mermaids in the cottage. Her Mom and Dad did too! My husband and I found 35 Mermaids!! The week began with 4 days of sunny weather & temps like early Spring. The weekend looked like winter wonderland - so pretty with snow on the beautiful tall evergreen trees. Had fun visit with grandkids to an amazingly creative childrens' museum in Everett. All day Sat @ Edmonds for a tour group reunion @ Rick Steves Tour Headquarters. We will definitely come back as the "Mermaid Hutch" is now our "home away from home" cottage by the Bay when we visit our kids and grandkids! Their house has become too crowded and chaotic with the grandkids ages 5, 3, and 9 months! Next time we come I hope it will be summer or early fall. October has been pleasant when we've visited in the past. Thank you Cory, for makiing your cottage/cabin available for those of us who are in need of a quiet, cute, clean, place to stay. What a wonderful alternative to a motel/hotel! See you again & looking forward to the opportunity! P.S. the well-fed black cat paid us a visit one day. Very friendly - as if to say "Welcome to the Mermaid Hutch!" We enjoyed more than a few chuckles reading the "101 wacky camping Jokes" book from the bookshelf! lol

Really lovely stay. Quiet retreat for a busy Christmas time. Would recommend it to a couple, or small family because of the sofa beds.

Our stay here was wonderful. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The fireplace was so cozy that we even slept on one of the sofa beds in the living room our first night instead of making it to the bedroom. It was a great getaway weekend, despite the fall rain. Communication was very welcoming and effective as well. Down time was just what we needed and this was the perfect spot for it! We'll be back. Thank you!!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Great Little Cottage for Small Family

My family (2 adults, and 2 young kids) stayed at the cottage for a few days in August. It's the perfect size for a small family. The kids were each able to have their own sofa bed, and we (the parents) were able to have a little privacy in the bedroom. We liked that it was so close to walk to the beach and the C Shop. Very convenient.

Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing.

Owner response: The summer is a great time for families in Birch Bay, with the C-Shop open everyday, and the bike, bike-cars for 4 (for lack of a better word!), scooter, and kyak rentals. Fall and winter are great times too, when it gets quieter and has great weather for kite flying at the beach!

A very nice comfy little cottage on a safe quiet street just barely a couple blocks from the beach. We had a very pleasant 4 night stay where my 4 year old daughter could ride her bike on the street out front and everything we needed was provided. It was espescially great that we had a free phone to use which saved me huge on my international cellular costs.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The Plover Ferry was fun - my youngest became an honorary captain! In addition we enjoyed the shaved ice @ the Snow Shack. A black tomcat also kept us company. He's very loud about his opinions.

The Mermaid Hutch was quite comfortable! We enjoyed visiting the Birch Bay State Park, Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, and Semiahmoo Spit. There are places here that make for a great vacation!

We are so enjoying our stay at the Mermaid Hutch. The cottage is well stocked including in cupboards with many food items and plenty of supplies so that the minimal is needed for shopping to be able to cook at home. I love the design of the house and the cozy propane fireplace. One of my favorite VRBOs for sure.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A pristine environment enabled our family to relax the second we walked in the door! Thank you for sharing your cottage - it was ideal. The togetherness we craved was truly experienced here. The blue skies bright with sunshine, also added to our joy! The mermaid count by our kids was an extra fun delight....last count = 21 mermaids spotted!!!

Had a great time, the house was great, had more than we needed for a weekend getaway. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the area, and SO much nicer than a hotel/condo! Thunderbird Cafe had the best food in town; don't waste your time on others, for what you pay, they aren't worth it (and their food is bland.) If you can, definitely bring/rent/buy stuff for crabbing/clamming/oyster harvesting!
