Really lovely stay. Quiet retreat for a busy Christmas time. Would recommend it to a couple, or small family because of the sofa beds.

Our stay here was wonderful. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The fireplace was so cozy that we even slept on one of the sofa beds in the living room our first night instead of making it to the bedroom. It was a great getaway weekend, despite the fall rain. Communication was very welcoming and effective as well. Down time was just what we needed and this was the perfect spot for it! We'll be back. Thank you!!
Owner response:I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! Yes, the fireplace can sure get the cottage cozy quickly.

It's truely perfect for the two of us. Our weather and your cozy cabin have put a lasting memory of one of the best vacations you could wish for. Every thought we need for comfort was at our finger tips and the best moments weree peace and quiet on the deck in the evening. Thank you so much

My family (2 adults, and 2 young kids) stayed at the cottage for a few days in August. It's the perfect size for a small family. The kids were each able to have their own sofa bed, and we (the parents) were able to have a little privacy in the bedroom. We liked that it was so close to walk to the beach and the C Shop. Very convenient.
Owner response:The summer is a great time for families in Birch Bay, with the C-Shop open everyday, and the bike, bike-cars for 4 (for lack of a better word!), scooter, and kyak rentals. Fall and winter are great times too, when it gets quieter and has great weather for kite flying at the beach!

A very nice comfy little cottage on a safe quiet street just barely a couple blocks from the beach. We had a very pleasant 4 night stay where my 4 year old daughter could ride her bike on the street out front and everything we needed was provided. It was espescially great that we had a free phone to use which saved me huge on my international cellular costs.
Owner response:So happy your stay was enjoyable! Yes, I have the Comcast package at the Mermaid Hutch that provides many cable tv stations and 'view on demand', high speed internet, and free calling throughout US and Canada!

The Plover Ferry was fun - my youngest became an honorary captain! In addition we enjoyed the shaved ice @ the Snow Shack. A black tomcat also kept us company. He's very loud about his opinions.

We are so enjoying our stay at the Mermaid Hutch. The cottage is well stocked including in cupboards with many food items and plenty of supplies so that the minimal is needed for shopping to be able to cook at home. I love the design of the house and the cozy propane fireplace. One of my favorite VRBOs for sure.

A pristine environment enabled our family to relax the second we walked in the door! Thank you for sharing your cottage - it was ideal. The togetherness we craved was truly experienced here. The blue skies bright with sunshine, also added to our joy! The mermaid count by our kids was an extra fun delight....last count = 21 mermaids spotted!!!

Had a great time, the house was great, had more than we needed for a weekend getaway. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the area, and SO much nicer than a hotel/condo! Thunderbird Cafe had the best food in town; don't waste your time on others, for what you pay, they aren't worth it (and their food is bland.) If you can, definitely bring/rent/buy stuff for crabbing/clamming/oyster harvesting!

The house is perfect and we loved our time here! We walked on the beach. The kids loved the C-store, skateboarded everywhere, had a beautiful sunset dinner at CJ's Beachhouse, sunbathed on the front porch and had a very relaxing time! Our one suggestion would be for w-fi, but we ended up getting by without it. Thanks for everything!

My husband and I found this property to be perfect for what we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the gas fireplace added a cozy touch on cool evenings. The neighbourhood was quiet and we really enjoyed the deck for barbecuing and relaxing in the sun. The beach was just a short walk away. The state park is a little further but also within walking distance and is very nice. We also stopped at the C Shop for lunch and ice-cream. The sandwiches were the best I've ever had!
Owner response:Thank-you for your review! It is so nice to hear that you had a wonderful time coming out to 'the coast' and staying in the Mermaid Hutch. I am so glad the stay worked out for you! I haven't tried the sandwiches at the C-Shop, (just lots of ice-cream), and now I must! I hope you are able to get away again. The Mermaids' cries will beacon you back...

Pleasant evening w the Mermaids flapping on the rocks. The Shores have good Fish N Chips but not recommended due to high cost, OK quality, However, good decent food. Get the halibut/chips anyway and I liked the Pinot Gris alot. Portion size is large so sharing is a good option. This isd an awesome place. Enjoyed the winter storms view from a warm and cozy sanctuary, impecably clean place - noted by all...even the 21 year olds!

My 2 year old daughter & I are ending our 7 day vacation here at the Mermaid Hutch. We had a wonderul time. Blue skies and 70 + degrees everyday. We spent plenty of time on the beach at the State Prk beach combing and catching the sun rays. We had a bike and trailer so we scooted around town plenty sites to see. - The State Park - a must esp @ sunset. The crickets were a joy to hear and we even found a couple agates on the the beach. - Semiahmoo - a nice drive to see the site. Bike lane stops at Birch Bay so I didn't risk the bike ride. - Dang good Margarita on the rocks at La Casita. Great place to sit on the porch and watch the sun set. Relaxed atmosphere. Mexican food was good. - The Beach House was good food if you want to pay for it. More formal. - Blaine was disappointing. The Bay @ Blaine not as nice as Birch Bay. - Lynden is fun for the historic district on front Street, big windmill, chocolate store...yum!! Bakery (Dutch oif course) pretty good too. Don't go on Sunday as everything closed while folks @ church. City Park has beautiful play ground next to a picturesque creek. (P>S> no public playgrounds 8in Birch Bay or Blaine). - Bellingham - great parks and playgrounds and shopping - Vancouver, BC. If your brought your passport it's an 1 1/2 drive North. Great city. Plenty to see. In Birch Bay, CJ Wijns is a nice place to get a cup of coffee and some great wine. Their soups are wonderful and sandwiches pretty good too. We had a wonderful time. Thanks for everything!

Shopping - Lynden - New town- wasn't too impressed w/Dutch Village. Bellingham - huge and modern. Farhaven - cute downtown and lovely harbor walks. Touring - To the Fraser wine country in BC *Passport a must! Note: Proof of insurance recommended for rental car. Very nice. Fort Langley fun to visit - great for kids and day tripping. Used Hwy 13 out of Lynden and Aldergrove to border crossing. **Vancouver day trip w/car. "OK" - injoyed UBC anthropology museum. Gaslight district not worth going to. **Overnight trip to Victoria. Great! Took car to Tsawwassen ferry and crossed to Swartz Bay w/car $69 for 2 adults & car. Butchart Gardens beautiful and worth seeing. Stayed at Empress HOtel and had "high tea" - lovely. Dear Cory and Richard: Thank-you for opening your lovely Mermaid Hutch to us. We enjoyed a few days here before our churchconference and just loved the peace that rests in this place! The Beach House restaurant was yummy! We explored the beach at low tide and the CShop (great candy) :) We will definitely be back!! May God bless, bless, bless you both.
