Mid-Century Bungalow Oasis

This free standing mid-century bungalow is located in the historic Racquet Club Garden Villas which was designed by the famed mid-century architect, William F. Cody. The Racquet Club was the hangout for the most famous of the film stars and celebrities. This spacious and beautiful 1100 square foot bungalow was completely refurbished and decorated in September of 2012. The grounds are gated and the Garden Villas is located just minutes from the airport and downtown Palm Springs with it excellent restaurants and trendy shops.
The bungalow sleeps four. In the large master bedroom there is a king size bed and in the living room there is a quality leather sofa that easily pulls out and makes into a very comfortably queen size bed. All linens are provided.
The post and beam architecture with the floor to ceiling glass walls are William F. Cody signature look which breaks the distinction between indoors and outdoors. There are three patios, making the bungalow feel larger than its 1100 square feet.
There are two bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and the other with a bathtub and a shower.
The lush grounds were designed by Phil Shipley with beautiful trees everywhere, flowering gardens and a soothing stream that runs just outside of the bedroom. The view of the San Jacinto Mountains is spectacular and the swimming pool and spa are very special.
It has a new stainless steel kitchen, complete with dishes, utensils, pots & pans, bowls, blender, icemaker and an outdoor BBQ for your cooking and meal preparation convenience. There is also a private washer and dryer for your convenience.
There is a new flat screen TV and WiFi Internet.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS OCCUPANCY TAXES: There is a 11.5% Occupany Tax that will be added to the total charges unless you stay for 28 days or more and then there will be no taxes.

This was 1 of 3 units rented for a family get together. The unit was kind of a neat layout. One bedroom with two baths!! The pull out couch provided additional sleeping space for two of the kids. The complex was very quiet and we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. I liked the location of this unit and the fact that it was shaded from the hot sun. The walkways were great for the kids to wander along and the community was gated, so we felt safe letting the kids visit between the 3 units. Downtown Palm Springs was close. Grocery stores were close by also. If you are planning a trip to Palm Springs and enjoy hiking, then you have Joshua Tree and Indian Canyons. Even if you're not a hiker they are still a nice destination ....then take a nice swim and relax before dinner.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This is a beautifully situated modern bungalow, the grounds are lush and well maintained. There is a stream that goes right by the bedroom patio, it is steps away from the pool and the living area is clean and spacious. There is a large bedroom with a king size bed and two bathrooms, each with a large dressing area. There was plenty of space for two people. The Racquet Club Garden Villas is a compound of modernist houses that were converted from private cabanas, some with one room, like a hotel room, others were large rooms with kitchens. This bungalow is a combination of both in this architecturally interesting mid-century modern development. The house has many original qualities, which is a big plus if you are looking for an experience staying in a house of that era. Other than walking around the Villas themselves the location is fairly far north of the city, so it is not within walking distance of anything, although it is a short drive to the center of the city, since Palm Springs is not very large and it is quite close to the tram up the mountain. Being away from the center of town has the advantage of it being extremely quiet both day and night. The kitchen was nicely equipped with new stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. From the pictures you can probably tell that the bathrooms were updated a while ago, while they were perfectly functional the plumbing could use some attention. Our hosts Wayne and Herta were easy to work with and quick to respond to my email. This house was perfect for a relaxing get away in the middle of winter.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: My wife and I who have been married for 44 years live in Palm Springs. Until we retired five years ago we owned a fine art printing studio and a 10,000 ft. art gallery in Palos Verdes, California. As you can see from the photos, the units are extensively decorated with the works of many well know artists. Before that we lived and did business in Europe and India for many years. I am an American and my wife is German who, of course speaks German and French. We manage the units ourselves and look forward to meeting and greeting you.
Why the Owner Chose Racquet Club Garden Villas:
For years we lived at the beach and bought a unit in the Garden Villas to come on the weekends when it was foggy or cold at the coast. We grew to love the desert and retired here 5 years ago.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
In our opinion the Garden Villas of the Racquet Club is the most unique and beautiful place in all of the desert. First of all there are only 37 units in this gated historical compound with its magnificent grounds and extra large picturesque swimming pool and spa.
