Give yourself a day or two to hang on the deck, stroll in the yard, go ziplining, cook a meal, and enjoy the tranquility.
Mix in Asheville's cuisine, art, music, and support local businesses!!!!
Voted 'Beer City' USA, there is more than the fabulous breweries here. LaZoom Tours are a blast, Navitat Canopy Adventures is only a few miles away (quite possibly the best zipline company in the country), and the driving/hiking/golfing/skiing/fishing/kayaking options are endless!
The Chalet is likely is the largest 2-bedroom/1-bath vacation rental listed.
The Master Suite will not be available until the bathroom has been renovated, however, the house was designed for entertaining.
It has large rooms: a pocket door conceals the east side where the 2 bedrooms and shared bath are located.
The 'living area' includes a Den, large Kitchen, and a Dining Room open the Living Room... the latter offering a gas fireplace, 18' ceilings, and a wall of windows from which to enjoy the view from indoors.
It was built as a retirements home: comfortable, one-level living... the passive solar design was meant for entertaining.
Upcoming renovations will make it optional as a 3-bedroom/2-bath rental (hopefully mid-2013).
The Den has DirectTV satellite and a DVD player, great for watching movies or DVD's. The sectional couch will comfortably sleep one adult or two children. There is also space for a queen-size blow up mattress... potential for 1 to 4 more people sleeping!
Both bedrooms are light and bright, ample in size, and have queen beds. The closets and dressers are ready for your use, and each window has light-blocking curtains!
The 900 square foot deck has a gable roof to provide shade in the seating area, and new rail balusters that improve the view!!! Most find it difficult to leave the serenity of the deck!
The 6-person hot tub is on the lower level patio. There is a Pergola shaded by the lush leaves of Wisteria, providing an additional outdoor entertainment area with a different view!
If travelling in winter, be aware that this property has the best sledding hill one could imagine!
Satellite television, stereo with indoor and outdoor speakers, and wi-fi are provided.
Available for use are a pack-n-play, high chair, and saucer. For the toddlers, there is one chair tall enough to sit at either the indoor or outdoor dining tables and as well as a few toys.
ANIMAL FRIENDLY!!! Pets must be up to date on vaccinations and flea preventative, obedient, and are not permitted to wander into the neighbors' yards.
This property is only a few miles from the Coleman Boundary in the Pisgah National Forest, 3 miles from Navitat Canopy Adventures (one of the top ten ziplines in the country!), 10 minutes to Weaverville and 20 minutes to Asheville. The French Broad river is easily accessible, with options for water sports: kayaking, rafting, tubing, and fly fishing (even better fly fishing just down the road on the Ivy River).
Designed as a Swiss Chalet, this custom-built home has transferred ownership only once since it was built in 1986. It is now available as a vacation rental for the first time! Come experience this unique house and grounds!!!

My husband and I stayed at the chalet for a week with our dogs for a relaxing vacation to get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. The home is beautiful and clean with very comfortable furniture and lots of room to spread out. The sun room is a gorgeous place to read or just relax by the fire. Our trained dogs loved running around several acres of open hills and relaxing on the expansive deck. The chalet was a short driving distance to trails where we could take the dogs and about 20 minutes to downtown Asheville where we had some wonderful meals and the great restaurants and made a daily trip to Whole Foods. The jacuzzi is big enough for six people and seems new. The owner of the property was extremely responsive to questions that we had and responded immediately to some minor issues which were rectified within a couple of hours. We would definitely vacation here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Driving up to this property is unbelievable. I thought we were lost because it seemed too good to be true for the price. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the lovely owner, who was very warm and accommodating. She was very knowledgeable about the area. The home is absolutely amazing! There are many large rooms and so many windows that showcase the rolling property with mountain views. My husband and I deeply enjoyed our visit, enjoying the peace this property provides while enjoying wine on the large deck. The location is superb, because the home sits tucked away just outside of the hustle and bustle, though you can be in Asheville visiting the Biltmore House in no time. I have stayed in many VRBO, and I would rate this opportunity among the most excellent so far. This truly Is a beautiful home away from home and I would recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy both the tranquil beauty of the mountains, AND the many offerings Asheville can bring to a memorable vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We loved staying here! My boyfriend and I went for a weekend getaway with our two big dogs and could not have been happier. Owner: Paula is GREAT! Readily available for all/any questions, very helpful. Home: WOW THE VIEW!!!! Absolutely incredible. The home has an enormous deck which locks so pets can run around. The home comes with absolutely everything you need: kitchenware, dog towels, household cleaners, spices for cooking, body wash. Every detail was thought of. The hot tub was so so great, even though it was downstairs the view from the hot tub was spectacular. Dogs: We searched long and hard for a place to stay that would allow our two dogs. Every single place charges a pet fee + cleaning fee. I was astonished and SO happy that there was no pet fee. HOW WONDERFUL!!! Neighbors: This would be the only very minor negative, the neighbors dogs sometimes come into the "yard." We were looking forward to letting our dogs run free in the 8 acres but had to keep them close by instead. Certainly not enough of a problem to prevent us from wanting to stay again. Asheville is a close 20 minutes away, national forest right up the road, so much to do. We cannot wait to return, hopefully in the fall or spring so we are able to see the mountains again. Stay here you will not be disappointed!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I came to Asheville with my boyfriend and another couple for a weekend getaway and this was the absolute perfect accommodation. About 20 minutes outside of downtown Asheville, this house is on a gorgeous piece of property and has all the amenities you could possibly need. We especially loved the hot tub- perfect for late night star gazing. I would definitely recommend this for a weekend retreat.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We had a fabulous time at the chalet! The views of the mountains and valley were breathtaking, especially at this time of year. Our two year old was mesmerized by the fish tank. Our dog loved the fenced deck where she could take in the view of the property. Not too far to Weaverville or Asheville, either, and the scenic routes were fun to take, instead of just the highway. The owner was very accommodating and was always easy to get in touch with/responsive. Great time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is a great house, our stay was wonderful. Paula was great, she met us at the house to show us around. Very Clean, and the kitchen was well stocked. The hot tub was great, and so was the wrap around deck. Great hiking at Big Ivy State Park, just a few miles away. Will definitely rent this place again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I've been in real estate for what seems my entire life. With parents as Realtors it's always been a family business. I began appraising in college, investing in rentals at the age of 24, and have been a Property Manager ever since! I fell in love with this house and it's view during my first showing... luckily for me, my clients were not interested! Eight months later, I purchased the home and ~8 acres. I've gradually made improvements ever since, most of them cosmetic with a few upgrades to the major systems. Although it is still a work in progress, the home is fully functional and comfortable. It has already come a long way and continue to enjoy the process of converting it into my vision!
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
This is one of the most unique properties you'll find in the Asheville area. Built in 1986 as a retirement residence, the one-level living is convenient and comfortable (deck stairs lead down to the hot tub or walk around on level ground).
All the rooms are large and fully furnished.
Designed as a Swiss Chalet, there are charming details throughout: coat closet and pantry lights come on when the doors are opened, skylights, and a passive solar design (the deck overhang shades the Living Room in the summer, and lets the sun warm the room in winter). The kitchen cabinets were hand-made by the original owner and feature a 'small appliance garage': simply open the door with the brass 'Coffee Maker' label, and pull out the trolley upon which sits the coffee maker! The spice drawer might amuse you, or inspire you... the dumbwaiter is for looks only, but still fun to check out! How often do you see a more modern version of Thomas Jefferson's invention?
Multiple indoor and outdoor 'living areas' make this home an ideal get-away for intimate escapes, family reuinions, visiting friends who don't have space for you to sleep (entertain them here one evening, the house was made for entertaining!)
Hang out in the... Den, Living Room, Kitchen with a 'pass-through' to the Dining Room, the Deck with 3 different sitting areas (main South-facing, Dining Table, and West-facing recliner chairs), a shady pergola with gliding benches, and 8 acres upon which to roam!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
For additional fees, the following services are available prior to or during your stay: stocking of groceries, laundry, early check-in or late check-out, and housekeeping during your stay.
This property and house leave people in awe... from the initial impression coming up the driveway to the expansive living area leading directly to that magnet of a deck... this is the ideal balance of peace, views, and easy access to downtown and other amenities!
