About: Currently Floridians, we moved south from Minnesota upon retiring. We travel quite a bit but love to spend time hiking in the woods and paddling on the waterways. While living in Minnesota, we had a cabin on 10 acres in Chequemegon National Forest in northwestern Wisconsin which we sold when we relocated. Now, once again, we have the perfect wooded retreat. We love to cook together and grill out on the deck. We owned a company which marketed vacation villas in the Caribbean and now look forward to offering our retreat in the mountains.
Why Maggie Valley:
Having visited several areas in the mountains, we found the Maggie Valley and Waynesville area and fell in love with it. It is small enough that it is charming and large enough to have many services and restaurants. Asheville is closeby as is the Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountain National Park, and art-rich Brevard. The location couldn't be better. There are great areas to hike and lakes to paddle, art, theater, music and other entertainment in addition to rafting for the adventuresome.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The grace of the wide covered porches with rockers that beg you to sit down was our first hook to the home. But then we turned around and were riveted by the gorgeous views to the east and to the south. Sunrise is an event not to be missed - the mist hovers in the valleys below. Passing breeze rings the chimes that remind us of the church bells in Italy. The songs of the crickets at night give the evening texture. Watching the stars from the hot tub on the open deck is sublime. The window in the kitchen offers a view while we cook. Elevation at 3800 ft. gives cool temps and the wide, paved roads that lead to the door are rare in the mountains.
