Great Time in the ATX at a Great House
Great Time in the ATX at a Great House
Me and 3 friends wanted a place to stay for our weekend trip to Austin and were lucky enough to find this gem of a place. One thing that really grinds my gears about some of the landlords on VRBO is that they don't respond in a timely fashion but not these folks, they got back to me quickly after I left them a voicemail and answered my questions and let me know the space was still available. The house is very clean and the kitchen is very well stocked which was great since we cooked a lot of our meals here. You'll also notice if you stay here that the neighborhood is going through a gentrification so some houses are really nice and some not so much, hence having a fenced in front yard where we could park the car behind a locked gate was a nice touch. The big king beds and wraparound couch were really comfy. Proximity to Rainey street was really convenient but I wouldn't say it was walkable.

The House at the Lake
The House at the Lake
This is a great place to stay in the heart of Austin. The house is a remodel with character. It stays cool on Texas summer days as well. Walk to all of these; 6th street, Lady Bird Lake, Rainey Street, Juan in a Million for breakfast or lunch (you will stand in line) and Iron Works for BBQ. Bikes can take you to SOCO, Barton Springs and Austin Lake (try the Hula Hut).Walked back late at night without any problems. The neighborhood is safe. You won't need a car except for day trips like Lake Travis (Oasis) or outlet shopping. The freeway is easy to get on and the airport is only a $22 cab ride. I won't even look for another place to stay in Austin.

Rich and quaint
Rich and quaint
Comfortable, functional house in quiet neighborhood close to downtown and river parks with scenic walkways. Very nice amenities - flatscreens, electric piano plays classics, maps and details of nearby facilities and attractions. Minor annoyances - birds seemed compelled to roost above my dark blue rental car (bring a light colored car), One AC unit developed a tic after several days that bothered my wife). We enjoyed the funky row of houses converted to restaurants nearby at I-35 and the river by the high-rise apartment buildings. Indian food at the Gr'age Mahal Indian restaurant.was like eating in a farmer's backyard.

Recently stayed for my son's UT graduation. The home, the location and the owners couldn't have been more accomadating. All amenites provided were first class, right down to the bedding. Will and would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay that is close to everything and with easy access. Better than 98% of the hotels that I've stayed in Austin!

Owner response: Thank YOU! One of the things we love about Town Lake Home is that it's so quiet and peaceful, one would never guess that it's actually in a downtown neighborhood, so close to all the action in Austin. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and we hope to host you again in the future!

We loved your place. It was a wonderful location for helping my son move out of his dorm at UT. Thanks for the goodies and beverages. It was nice to relax with a glass of wine and watch the world go by out your front door.

Perfect for us!
Perfect for us!
My girlfriends and I stayed here for one of our friend's bachelorette party. It was perfect for the 6 of us! We were able to have easy access to downtown for all our plans, and have the convenience of cooking at home with privacy. Downtown was just a 5-8 min drive. There are several Austin favorites just a few blocks away like Juan in a Million and Mr. Natural. The place was very clean and well decorated. There was plenty of space (2 king beds), so we didn't even need the couch or eurolounger. Even the 1 bathroom worked out very well. This is place is more updated than those pictures - area to park inside the gate with rocks, brick walkway to door, new front door, many kitchen appliances. We felt safe as well because there is a gate surrounding the house, and there are security cameras at the front and back door. The back patio is very cute and great for a nice day! There is a smoker out there and patio furniture under a gazebo. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this very cute home with lots of charm! The owners literally thought of everything to make it comfortable and cozy. They were very sweet and were always willing to help make our weekend awesome :) You can't beat a bottle of wine and a basket of goodies waiting for you on arrival! We would definitely stay here again for our next group trip!

Great option in Austin!
Great option in Austin!
We rented this house for 10 days and enjoyed our time there! The owners are probably the nicest folks you will come across and they thoughtfully left us some snacks and drinks which met us on arrival. They did a lot to help ensure we had a great stay and offered several helpful suggestions of things to do, see, and eat. The house location is good -- on the east side of Austin with easy freeway and downtown access. Within a mile radius there are some bars and restaurants so bring your walking shoes if you’d like to do a bit on foot. During the time we were there, there was a beer festival only three blocks away. As per the home description, the house is many years old but kept very clean and with nice furniture and comfortable beds. The kitchen is well outfitted with everything you’ll need during your stay. Ideally, it would be nice to have a dishwasher at the house, and the one bathroom is rather small. But some compromises are expected in an older home and these are small nits given the great price compared with other properties near downtown. This was a very economical and comfortable solution for us during a longer stay in Austin.

Great place to stay in Austin!
Great place to stay in Austin!
Overall: Very nice property, a great value for 2 couples. It was comfortable and I would stay there again. Location: The location was about 1-2 miles from downtown Austin. Not really close enough to walk to downtown bars/restaurants, however, the location was close enough to downtown and highways that it was easy to get around. Parking off the street inside a locked gate. Property: Very comfortable, and plenty of amenities. Basics like cable HDTV, WiFi, but nice touches like a coffee beans and a grinder. Caffeinated and decaff coffees and teas, everything need to cook small meals for extended stays or heating up leftovers. Washer and dryer, etc. Grill in patio furniture for warmer weather. Very well thought out. Service: The owners were very easy to work with and great communication throughout. Detailed instructions were available in the house for how to use everything from the gas range to the air-condition. Neighborhood: Residential, with older houses and what appears to be a trend towards updating many of them. Close by there is a very nice coffee house called Cenote, highly recommend.

An utterly delightful, relaxing, exciting, stay in the heart of East Austin!
An utterly delightful, relaxing, exciting, stay in the heart of East Austin!
I knew from the moment I walked along the long sidewalk approaching the home that we were staying at that we were in for a delightful stay. There stood a charming masonry home flanked by two towering Pecans trees. My eye drawn to the beautiful, beveled, stain glass door assured me we were in for a real treat. Indeed we were! This jewel of a home is utterly charming! With its moldings, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, and built ins I fell in love! One Dreamy Home! We fell in love with the dining room. It has a very charming mantel and bookcase built in. The red brick fireplace and its silver framed opening was a welcoming sight. The bookcase filled with books and magazines certainly was inviting. This Home is beautifully furnished. Big Flat screen TV's to view movies, your favorite shows. A fully well stocked kitchen which I Ioved! I love to cook so this was Great! I was truly taken aback how well this kitchen was stocked. Sleeping in a King size bed was great! Comfort and pampered viewing a big flat screen TV made for a great night! Home Away From Home! Located close to downtown, Town Lake Bike and Hike trail, 6th street, South Congress, IH35 made this home an incredible place to stay! Fiesta Gardens was within blocks. The Austin Celtic Festival was in gear. Great Fun! Mr. Natural was also within walking distance. A great place to eat healthy! A 100% vegetarian! We are vegetarians so we were happy. Great juice bar, Health conscious bakery, and Health Store made it such a wonderful find. Yoga classes too! A plus on my list. The night life on east 6th street was Awesome! Loved Hotel Vegas and The Gypsy Lounge. Also, which we thought was too cool there were performers playing outside their home on their front porch. Esquina Tango for great Tango dancing on Third street and Pedernales is a must for those who like us love Tango! We will definitely want to stay here again! A great getaway! Home Away From Home! We Loved it! Great attention to detail, comfort, made this home a dream to stay at. An Utterly Delightful, Cozy, Charming Home not to be missed!

About the owner: Austin’s diversity in culture, style and outdoor activities makes this city the perfect home for this musician/teacher/engineer/nature lovers/international couple. We love here! Coming from Brazil and India, we couldn't ask for a better place!
Why the Owner Chose Downtown:
We simply love downtown Austin. You see, we fell in love with each other salsa dancing at many of Austin’s great live music locations. As often as we can, we visit Lady Bird Lake for a relaxing hike & bike outing, followed by an indulgent meal in one of downtown’s world famous local eateries. We have always wanted to take a vacation in our 'own' town, just by traveling a bit south. When this delightful and character filled property right by the lake became available, we jumped on it! The 'fight' was fierce as lots of potential buyers felt captivated by this property as well. The care that this home’s previous owners showered on it can be summarized by the shared quote from both buyer & seller’s real state agents after closing: “In our collective 40 years in real estate in Austin, we have not seen such a high demand property”. We are fortunate to call this our home away from home, and hope that the TOWN LAKE HOME will be the same for you.
