We stayed in this apartment the first two weeks of October 2012. It was located in a courtyard on the American third-floor. The apartment overall was fine. It was quiet and comfortable. We had WiFi. We were able to view English language broadcasts on the television: CNN, BBC, etc. Previous to this flat we had rented for a two week stay five different apartments in other sections of Paris. This is the apartment I would return to as it offered a real French quarter atmosphere. Though from the street one could see the Bastille monument one felt as though we were in a genuine Parisian neighborhood. So many things needed for our stay were nearby. I am a big fan of Monoprix (99 fbg Saint Antoine) where we shopped for needed provisions. Nearby; in fact, the few steps from the apartment street entrance was the metro stop, Ledru-Rollin/ Line 5.. For the first time we had a nearby café where we were able to watch the comings and goings of Parisians on their daily errands and rendezvous and get acquainted with some of the staff. We also took advantage of the nearby Viaduc Vincennes (The Promenade plantée) and walked to the end at the Boulevard périphérique. This was our most pleasant vacation in Paris.

My wife, daughter and I spend a wonderful week at Charlotte's charming flat. It is all the things other reviewers have said. It's small but comfortable and looks onto a peaceful courtyard. The location is fabulous and my wife and daughter were happy to find the summer sales in all of the shops right out our front door. Of course, being minutes away from the Bastille Metro is a huge plus, but we also had an easy walk to Notre Dame and back. Charlotte is a sweet and thoughtful hostess and made sure we had everything we needed. We hope to return again one day.

We (a senior couple) stayed here for a week in early May 2012 and found the apartment to be charming, a convenient location for tourists and a perfect alternative to staying in a hotel in Paris. It is very close to food markets in the event one wants to eat meals in instead of out. The neighborhood is hip and bustling, but safe and friendly. It is a couple of blocks from the Bastille/Opera Metro stop and close to shops, cafes and markets. We walked extensively in Paris and in the neighborhood. We loved the courtyard and the apartment itself served our needs perfectly. The owner is very helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. We went everywhere in Paris from this apartment each day and loved to return to our charming base in the evening. We would recommend this apartment for a couple who doesn't want a hotel.

The wording of this ad and the photos simply do not come close to expressing the beauty of this apartment, the courtyard and the neighborhood. My wonderful two weeks spent here were the most completely satisfying of all of my trips to Paris. (and, 8 different apartments). J’etais bien heureuse. Charlotte was an excellent hostess. She was there to greet me, took a great deal of time to see that I was settled, and painstakingly showed me the workings of the phone, TV, washer dryer etc. The financial workings of the rental were simple, with no problems. The courtyard is exquisite and I spent hours looking through the gracious French windows of the apartment, photographing it in detail. It changes character with the light. The apartment itself is superbe, beautifully and uniquely furnished and, far more spacious than it appears in the photos. You are immersed in beauty. She thoughtfully provides an extensive library (in French and English), music, and art. (Don’t bother to bring your guidebooks, the best are already there.) The charming Parisian kitchen is complete and workable, as is the bathroom. You move from the peaceful exclusive apartment and courtyard to the neighborhood, Faubourg Saint Antoine, rich, vital and textured. I spent hours wandering through the tiny passages, window shopping, and most days, at least an hour in the fabulous historic Marche Aligre, perhaps a 10 minute walk away. Many cafes and restaurants, I love Le Chat Bossu especially. You are immediately accessible to all of Paris, the bustop and metro, Ledru Rollin…only a 3 minute walk away. The Seine is a 15 minute walk, the Marais, 10 minutes. The whole experience was intensely pleasurable and remarkable on all levels. Without qualification, I would recommend this Paris home. I have no criticisms. I would love to return tomorrow! Merci beaucoup, Charlotte. Gail (Oct.9-23,2011)

What a charming flat in central Paris. We fell in love with the four large french windows which open onto a court yard, allow sunshine to stream in, and keep the flat cool, during hot days. Charlotte has decorated it with persian rugs and antiques, perfect for this 17th century flat in the Bastille district. Her library is brimming with helpful information about Paris, it's history as well as tour guides. The Bastille district is now vibrant with young people, who have moved to the area...artists and designers, as well as people drawn by the arts and fine dining. We walked to the Louvre, the Grand Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Museum D' Orsay from this flat, although at times we took advantage of the bus that stops in front and takes you to the Louvre. We definitely recommend it...location, location, location.

You can rent the owner's Paris apartment while she visits her country home. Lovely, secure courtyard near Opera Bastille. Clean and well-maintained with a charming, helpful hostess. Shopping just outside the courtyard. Located within walking distance of the Seine and Ile St. Louis.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this charming flat from 25 April - 9 May 2011.We were amazed at how quiet, tranquil and private it was as it is located in a very vibrant area of Paris with shops, supermarket, cafes, metro stations and bus stops only steps away. Also it is close to the famous Marche d'Aligre ( daily) and the wonderful Marche at Bastille (Sundays). The Marais is a 5-minute walk away. The banks of the Seine an interesting 10-minute walk directly down Blvd.Henri 1V. There is a direct bus to the Eiffel Tower and the many other tourist attractions of Paris. Charlotte is a wonderful host who welcomed us and ensured our stay in Paris was comfortable and enjoyable. We highly recommend this flat. This is the real Paris. Lovely memories! Sue & Patrick. This is a lovely apartment let by an equally lovely owner, Charlotte. The courtyard makes this a quiet apartment in a bustling area of Paris. It is convenient to the metro (just out the front gate) and within walking distance to Place de la Bastille, the Marais (a few streets over) and the oldest open food market in Paris (Place D'Aligre.) It is a super quick metro ride to the center of Paris. My favorite part of the stay though was the apartment itself, writing while overlooking the courtyard, late afternoon sun streaming in...if you want to feel like you are really living in Paris this is the place for you. The only drawback is the teensy bathroom-for me, and my daughter it was not a big deal, but for my 6'4" husband it was an adventure. That said, my extra tall husband says he would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Charlotte.

Owner response: jACKIE AND HER CHARMING DAUGHTER WERE VERY PLEASANT RENTORS . I REGRET NOT TO HAVE THE TIME TO GO FOR A WALK WITH THEM IN THE AREA I LIKE IN PARIS AND TO TALK MORE WITH THEM. I HOPE THEY WILL COME BACK.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in the apartment in Opera Bastille. We were met by Charlotte who made us very welcome and explained how everything worked and told us about the area. The apartment was very well equipped and comfortable. It was within walking distance of central Paris so we used the Metro very little. The local market was fabulous for fresh produce and so much cheaper than supermarkets. We would be very happy to return again in the future. Kevin and Petra

We certainly spent a wonderful time in Paris, also because of Charlotte's wonderful apartment. Close to a covered market, to the Opera de Bastille with exellent restaurants nearby, the Metro only a few meters away this quiet but central place was ideal to refill our energies after several walks through the museums or after strolling along the large Paris boulevards. The historic furniture and the partly wooden ceiling gave a calm and cosy atmosphere. And the fully equipped kitchen in connection with the closeby Monoprix store and the typical boulangerie (Rue Charenton) with fresh french baguette served pretty well for a relaxing breakfast and refreshing little meals.

A delightful & truly Parisian apartment in one of the most undiscovered corners of the city. The beautiful cour du Bel-Air is a sanctuary from the hustle & bustle of the neighbourhood, yet only steps from all conveniences. Mme. Le Millour, the charming owner, offers an apartment that is equipped with all one needs for a peaceful & memorable stay. We heartily recommend this flat & we look forward to returning for a longer stay. A la prochaine! John & Bruce Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Owner response: It was a pleasure to receive John and Bruce, very cultivated, refined and artist people. I hope to receive them next time.

This apartment was exactly what we hoped for. It was so easy to hop on the metro or bus, or to walk or bike where we needed to go. Faubourg is a very busy street - with lots of late night restaurants and bars nearby, but as soon as you step into the wonderful courtyard it is quiet and peaceful. The apartment is cozy - we loved the beams and the woodwork, and enjoyed cooking some of our meals there. Charlotte is thorough and helpful, and the whole transaction went very smoothly. No complaints! Only the highest recommendation for anyone else looking for a comfortable, unfussy place to stay while in Paris. Feel free to e-mail with questions.

Thank you so much Charlotte, for making your beautiful apartment available to us. I truly felt like a Parisienne living in a home with so much atmosphere and european charm. We were completely comfortable and it was wonderful to be able to spead out after 4 weeks in hotel rooms. Ian very much appreciated the internet connection and I was happy to be able to do laundry. We have already recommended your apartment to other friends and would love to stay again next time we are in Paris. All the best, Judith.

Charlotte Our stay in your charming apartment was a delight. Coming through the courtyard door after a day of sight seeing was like walking into a quiet oasis. The apartment was bright, well laid out with a very comfortable bed. The location was very convenient by foot to the Seine River and Notre Dame. The metro or bus was minutes away if you needed them. Shopping for groceries (Monprix), a number of bakeries and the wonderful Daligre Market were all within a 10 walk. Our two week stay in April (in Paris) was wonderful. Thank you. Robin and Linda

We stayed at this lovely apartment for a week in Jan. 2007. Being a courtyard flat, it is very quiet despite being on a busy street. Madame was very helpful and explained the apartment amenities as well as local necessities (groceries, shops, metro, etc). She was available by cell phone to answer any questions we had. We stayed for one week in this cozy apartment and were very comfortable. It was very hot, but there was a fan and air conditioner provided. The location was great - near the Bastille - a very lively neighborhood, but the apartment was extremely quiet as it opens on to a private courtyard. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and eat and we felt quite at home. The bed was delightfully firm and comfortable, which was a treat after many other inferior sleeps throughout France. We enjoyed feeling like we were in a home rather than a barren hotel room. We would definitely stay here again!
