After arriving to Oahu from mainland after a very long day coming from Miami we were pleasantly surprised at the ease of checking into the apartment. As promised, Gavin ensured we had all of the necessary information and directions to ensure our check in process was smooth. The Royal Kuhio apartment was everything we were looking for in a vacation to Waikiki. We were a group of 4 (2 couples) and our ultimate goal was to find a spacious 2 bedroom/2bath apartment with an amazing view that was centrally located and the Royal Kuhio delivered what we were looking for. Having the express elevator to the 34th floor was a definite perk and waiting for an elevator was very minimal. The apartment is in a perfect location and centrally located within Waikiki. There are an abundance of affordable restaurants nearby and all within walking distance of the condo. The beach was an easy 10 minute walk. We rented a car and having a free parking space was a definite plus. You don’t need a car in Waikiki; however, we would explore the various beaches around Oahu such as Makapupu, Kailua Beach, and the North Shore. T The view from the two lanais was beyond spectacular! We looked forward to spending the mornings and late evenings on the lanai overlooking Waikiki Beach and Diamondhead in the distance. The apartment itself was very spacious; however, the décor was very basic and simple as shown in some of the photographs. The kitchen was stocked with the necessary wine and beer glasses, plates, utensils, etc. There were plenty of towels; however I suggested that some beach towels be provided. Additionally, the apartment could use a little updating to modernize the look a little bit more, especially the paint color. I did provide Gavin some additional suggestions in a separate email to him. Nonetheless, the Royal Kuhio 34th floor condo met our expectations and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. When we return to Waikiki in the future we will definitely stay again. Thank you Gavin and we appreciate the ease of communicating with you and making our stay a very memorable one.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were very impressed with the prompt responses we always received from Gavin in regards to this condo rental. The view from this 34th floor is spectacular and the express elevator to the upper floors was a relief, not having to stop and go through the lower floors. A huge bonus is the parking spot that is included in the cost of the rental, for we discovered that many of the other rentals charged a huge daily fee to park. We recognize how costly it is to rent 2 bedroom units in Waikiki so for our rental dollar, we felt we got a very spacious unit in an excellent, central location. We have suggested to Gavin that a few additional basic kitchen tools/dishes such as a vegetable peeler, an ovenproof pan or dish, more tea towels, some scissors to cut through food packages, a cheese grater, and some wine glasses (please) would likely be appreciated for future guests. Also, a hair dryer would be nice in order to save having to pack extra baggage. At the time of our rental, we did feel that this unit needed some immediate maintenance care. I tend to be a bit of a hygiene commander so I was distressed to see a bucket under the garborator catching some very dark water. However, judging from the promptness of communication and the pleasantness of Gavin to accommodate all our requests, I wondered if this was possibly a recent problem and one that would be on the work agenda to be fixed shortly.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: I have been in buildings in Waikiki where people staying in high floors hated using the elevators. Having dedicated elevators for the top 6 floors makes those units worthy of the distinction of "penthouses". We really appreciate feedback like this so we know what type of items future guests may want that we have not yet provided. Since this post we have added the following: Hairdryers for each bathroom, grater, vegi peeler, baking pan, scisors, additional kitchen towels and tea towels, and a set of wine glasses. We have scheduled our maintenence person to resolve the issue under the kitchen sink.

We stayed at the Royal Kuhio#3403 from Dec. 20th to Dec. 27th. The view was wonderful from the the 34th flour and the space was very accommodating for my family of four consisting of my husband and me and our two grown children. The place was comfortable; the washer and dryer and dishwasher were very helpful. The only complaint I have is the unit needs a total updating - from the old carpets, worn drapes, kitchen counters to the kitchen sink. It needs a new paint job too. I would also encourage the owner to get a new set of pots and pans and a new set of dishes. Also I did point out to Gavin, the very professional leasing agent, the annoying tiny bugs that kept appearing in the kitchen counter. The location was wonderful and we felt very secure in the building. It certainly feels good to have a free parking space. All in all I would not hesitate to stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Regarding your specific comments: White carpeting in any rental unit is a challenge. We have this unit on a quarterly shampoo/cleaning schedule. Due to the Christmas/New Year’s holiday, we were unable to schedule a cleaning before your visit. We did shampoo the carpet in early January, and the carpet now looks like new. The drapes, dishes and pots and pans are also scheduled to be replaced this month. The "annoying tiny bugs" you mentioned are tiny ants that amazingly find their way into even the tallest condos in Hawaii. Since your stay we have taken steps to eliminate the ants, and at the moment they are no longer apparent. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

The unit is indeed spacious, the view is spectacular, and the location is right in the middle of Waikiki, with a bus stop by the front door.The photos and description are accurate, and the unit was clean and well-cared-for. The owner was local, helpful and friendly yet unobtrusive. Given the touristiness of Waikiki's dining scene (expensive, mediocre restaurants), I like to rely on take-out and the grocery store. We found good take-out (Korean, middle-eastern) within a half-block; a very popular noodle house is one block; and the Food Pantry is an easy walk. Two small minuses: The kitchen was not especially well-stocked with cooking utensils, and the only supplies we found were salt and pepper and coffee filters. And it can be breezy out on the lanai up so high.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
